Great Closure Results After MOHs on my Nose

I had 2 separate surgeries on my nose- the first was a MOHs surgery on my alar area ;the MOHs dermatologist repaired it at the time of MOHs with a skin graft with tissue from behind my ear. The graft died; upon deep breathing, my nares would collapse. Dr Checcone repaired this with cartilage from my nasal septum. A year later, I had another basal cell on the other side of my nose. I had MOHs again, with Dr C. doing the closure later that day. Completely happy with the results of both.

Basal Cell Closure Success

Dr. Checcone closed my lesion immediately after a Mohs surgery by a Dermatologist. It was a small basal cell cancer on the side of my nose. His Staff is very caring & helpful, his focus & patient communication is sincere & refreshing. He loves his work & it shows! He took my fear away & I got an excellent result. He’s gentle & you won’t feel rushed. Next, I look forward to having him help me with anti-aging guidance & procedures. I totally trust his advice & his superior skill in achieving excellent results.

Wonderful Experience

After suffering from a deviated septum, constant runny nose, scabbing and sores I decided it was time to do some research on fixing my nose. I came across Dr Checcone and the reviews were very positive. Once I met with him I was put at ease. I was surprised as to how friendly and down to earth he is. I liked how he took his time to explain the procedure and what was wrong with my nose. He was in no rush to push me out of the office. I am 48 hrs post op right now. The surgery went well. No bruising and swelling is barely there. I only took pain meds twice. Needless to say I am very surprised with how my surgery went. I haven’t seen my nose yet as it has the cast on but I can see the difference on my nostrils. I would definitely recommend Dr Checcone to anyone that is looking to get any work down to their face. I am looking forward to seeing how my nose came out in a few days.

Mark Checcone, MD - Top Notch Plastic Surgeon - Sarasota, FL

I was referred to Dr. Checcone by my dermatologist for melanoma on my ear. What a blessing he was to me! He is such a perfectionist, which reminded me of my deceased husband who was a perfectionist of a dentist. Dr. Checcone's reconstructive surgery on my ear was done to perfection. His bedside manner was very calming and he talked me through the procedures, knowing I was better off keeping my mind off of what he was doing to my ear. My dermatologist was out of maternity leave at the end of August. She had done additional biopsies, with a diagnosis indicating melanoma on my back and leaving an open area on my lower leg from a second biopsy in that area. I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Checcone scheduled for the following day., which was the Wednesday before Hurricane Irma was to hit our FL area. My daughter asked for the biopsy results to be forwarded to Dr. Checoone. When I saw him the following day, there had been a few cancellations due to people leaving town in preparation of the forthcoming hurricane. (Dr. Checcone had told me previously that if I required any additional procedures, due to my dermatologist's maternity leave, he would handle them for me). He was able to complete the procedures on that Wednesday, giving me the opportunity to stay in IN until this winter. Dr. Checcone went well beyond the call of duty that day and made me one happy lady to be able to return to IN cancer free. Thank you for taking such good care of me. You have an excellent staff, who cares about your patients as much as you do. Thank you for choosing the best people to represent you and your practice.

3rd is a Charm!

I always wanted to do my nose and at the age of 36 finally decided to do it. I went to Dominican Republic and did it with Dr. Hernandez. The surgery went well and I was happy with the results until 3 weeks later all my dreams were shattered by an accident that destroyed my nose. I was devastated, but I didn't lose hope. 3 years later I went to Venezuela and had a revision which required a reconstruction of my bridge but the cartilage that was used didn't stick to my nose. It looks better than before but not pleased with the results because I still had some underlying issues with my breathing on the right side. Now 3 years later, I decided to give a last try. I will be having my 3rd surgery with Dr. Checcone in Sarasota, Fl tomorrow. Updated on 6 Oct 2017: The surgery lasted about 6 hours and they had to use cartilage from my rib. I am in pain but meds are helping. I am drinking liquids only and I have been in bed so far. My ribs hurt when I move. My head hurts a lot as well. It feels like I someone hit my head. My throat hurts too. My nose doesn't hurt. Updated on 8 Oct 2017: I am feeling much better today. At least the pain in the back of my head is gone. I am trying to keep my head in an angle to prevent discharge. Plus I decided to take my meds every 6-8 hours to see how I deal with the pain. Updated on 14 Oct 2017: I have to see that I am off pain medication but I am still taking advil sinus because my head fells stuffy. I saw the doctor yesterday and the nurse removed the stitches and cast but I still have to wear the cast when wearing my glasses. I am taking it easy because I get tired really fast. Updated on 20 Oct 2017: The stiches came off and what a relief. Have to do some exercises to my nose for two minutes 4 times a day but everything else seems to be healing just fine. Had a good conversation about my procedure and my concern which was the shape of cartilage on top of my bridge. Next appointment in 6 weeks. Updated on 4 Nov 2017: Today I am having a hard time with my nose. The swelling is coming down some and I am starting to see how my nose is going to look like. I know is too soon and I have to wait at least 2 months to see 50% of the swelling come down but I cannot help it. I have my next appointment on 11/30. Updated on 10 Nov 2017: I am sharing my before and after pictures of my original nose, first and second surgery. It is front left to right when looking at the pictures. Updated on 8 Dec 2017: The swelling is coming down and the tip of my nose is still swollen. I have a hump on top of the bridge and the doctor is monitoring closely. Other than that all is going well. Updated on 9 Jan 2018: The swelling is coming down and the doctor is monitoring the bump on my nose. Updated on 11 Apr 2018: It has been six months after my surgery and I’m loving the results of my nose. The only issue that I’m dealing with right now it’s the upper part of my nose. unfortunately I have a bump and the doctor has been putting a steroid shots to see if the bump will come down but other than that everything is going well and everything is healing just as I expected. The doctor will be seeing me every month to see how the bump is progressing so I will follow up with you guys next month. Updated on 6 Feb 2019: Yesterday I had my 4th surgery to fix the upper part of my nose. The surgery went well and I cannot wait to see my nose. Next appointment is next Tuesday. For some reason I was very nervous about this surgery and couldn’t sleep 2 days before the surgery. But the surgery went smoothly and I am recuperating well. Updated on 20 Feb 2019: Went to see the doctor today and he removed the stitches and cleaned my nose really well. Still dealing with infection so he gave me another prescription and once lab work returns will know for sure what kind of infection I have. I have to say I have never had an infection before after surgery but at this point I just want to get better. Next appointment will be on Friday because he wants to monitor my nose closely. I have peace in the middle of this and will continue to pray for quick healing. Updated on 28 Feb 2019: Infection is under control and my nose is responding well to the antibiotics. The swelling and redness is coming down. I have been seeing the doctor frequently and he is checking my nose and treating it if needed. Stopped wearing my glasses because I have a red bump and I want it to heal faster. Will be seeing the Dr. on Monday for my 4 weeks f/u. Updated on 7 Mar 2019: Went to see the doctor on Monday and he was very pleased with the way the nose is healing. He cleaned my nose and took some pictures and compared the old pictures with the recent ones and I can see significant improvements. The infection is almost gone and the skin is healing. I know it’s going to be a long process but I know God is in control. Updated on 3 Apr 2019: At this point The infection is gone but still have the scars from the stitches due to the infection. Now my nose itches like hell and the redness shows. I am using cortisone to see if it helps. Doctor will follow up next week. I know the healing process will be long but can’t do anything until it’s completely healed. I will consider my options at that point. I have to say it is very depressing looking in the mirror and cry myself to sleep. I still can’t believe how a simple procedure can go so wrong. Keep me on your prayers. Updated on 2 May 2019: Went to see Dr. because I wanted to start treating my scars sooner than later. He told me to do some massages for 4 weeks to see if the nose will improve. If this doesn’t work, he will start fat transfer treatment. He is only concern about one scar and he will do laser resurfacing if needed. Can’t wait to start my treatments. I am pleased with the outcome of the surgery and just have do deal with the scars from the infection. Have a bless day everyone!!!! Updated on 1 Jun 2019: Went to see the Doctor for my 4th post op snd pre operative appointment. In two weeks The doctors will be retrieving stem cells from my stomach and injecting into my nose along with laser resurfacing to improve the scars. Praying no complications on this procedure and quick recovery. Updated on 13 Jun 2019: Just finished my laser resurfacing treatment and the process was a little painful. Not sure if I would do this on my entire face again. It took a little over 2 hours and my face is red and swollen. I guess I will not be returning to work until my face is better and my abdominal pain is gone. Need to stay away from the sun and put aquaphor on my face to keep it moist. Have a follow up visit tomorrow. Updated on 14 Jun 2019: The doctor was very please with the results of the procedure and told me I don’t have to put aquaphor on my face just my nose. My face feels fine and on my way to full recovery. Next appointment on Thursday. Updated on 26 Jun 2019: Follow up visit June 20. The doctor was pleasantly surprised how rapidly I’m healing from the laser. He said I should see improvement in 3 months. Still sore in some areas from the procedure but everything else is just fine except my crusty nose. I am praying for God to give me strength to look myself in the mirror and not cry and to deal with people starring at my nose. I guess people are used to see a face full of acne scars but the can not see a nose with scars the same way. Updated on 6 Aug 2019: Went to see the doctor and when I saw the before and after picture I noticed the skin is healing. The stem cell treatment is actually working. My next follow up visit will be in 2 months. The doctor told me to put the silicone nose strip to apply pressure to the area. Updated on 12 Oct 2019: Hello everyone, I just want to share my progress on this journey and want to thank all the people that have been praying for me. This journey has made stronger and more resilient. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger is my new motto and I am trusting God on this season of my life and learning so much from it. I have to say that the stem cell treatment has done wonders to my nose and strongly recommend this treatment. The doctor did an IPL treatment on my nose to remove the redness. Still have to wait for the swelling to come down and the skin to finish healing. I am going to wait 4-6 months to see when the skin stops healing. Updated on 25 Dec 2019: Went to see the doctor for my 6 month post stem cell treatment. I don’t see many changes since I look at my nose every day but I have to confess that the struggle is real. I have my moment where I just can’t stop crying when looking at my nose and become depress. I never imagine getting a bacteria after surgery and nevertheless seeing my nose with dents. Keep me on your prayers. My doctor wants to wait another 6 months because my nose is still changing. I got another IPL treatment to help reduce the redness and will be seeing the doctor in a few months. Merry Christmas to all and happy new year. Updated on 16 May 2020: I have to say that this has been a journey and I am a better person because of it. God has always been by my side even on my darkest moments. The redness is still on my nose but less noticeable. I have not been to the doctor due to the corona virus. I believe I have some scar tissue on my nose and when I see the doctor I will be talking to him about it. I only have one scar with a more noticeable dent but not sure what I want to do about it. Thanks for all your comments and support during this journey. Stay safe but mostly stay bless!!!

Left with horrific scarring!

I had a horrible experience with Dr. Checcone. It’s been over a year and I still have horrible scarring which keeps getting infected. When I went back for a follow up and voiced my concerns, he simply brushed me off. I wish I had gone elsewhere for my procedure.

Rhinoplasty(open), Tonsillectomy, Adenoidectomy, Bilateral Inferior Turbinate Reductions, & Septo Cartilage Harvest. - FL

Ever since i could remember i have always wanted a nose job. For many years now i have been very unhappy with the size and shape of my nose, as well as the indent at the tip of my nose and the hump i had on the bridge of my nose ,which i think was caused by getting my nose broken when i was younger. Even though i have always wanted a nose job, wanting one and actually getting one is a big difference. Your nose is one of the most noticed features on a persons face. So if it gets messed up you'll be the next michael jackson . No im just joking i dont think anyones nose could look that bad. Anyway.... the other four procedures im having at the same time as my rhinoplasty are all for medical reasons. Although im not excited to have all procedures done at the same time i cant afford to miss out on work any longer then i already am. My surgery date was on June 12, 2014 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5 day post-op The first few days of post-op i thought were bad with headaches and feeling congested. But today my throat hurts so bad, they say the older you are when your tonsils are removed the longer it takes them to heal. My nose on the other hand feels fine. I have been taking my prescribed medication as needed every 4 to 6 hours, as well as keeping myself hydrated. With having all these procedures done at once there are some complications for example, i am supposed to keep my throat moist, but since i had the rhinoplasty done and i cant breath that good through my nose , which makes me need to breath through my mouth at night time. So when i wake up i am excruciating pain because my throat is so dry. i use biotene but it doesn't seem like it is helping. Does anyone know how i can prevent that? or maybe just help the dryness? -Other then that my nose feels fine still congested and my ears are aching really bad. My cast feels a little loose but i think it is because of the swelling going down. Cant really give my overall satisfaction of the rhinoplasty until i get my cast is taken off which is June 20,2014 Updated on 21 Jun 2014: sorry i haven't updated my results since my cast has been taken off. Yesterday was a rough day. My ears and my throat are in worse pain then ever right now and i dont know what to do. I am a baby when it comes to pain. So when i wake up every morning i basically cry because i feel like instead of it getting better it has just been getting WORSE. It hurts to yawn, sneeze, smile, and now my jaw is killing me. For my nose though, since the cast has been taken off it has been very swollen. I'm tired of sitting in bed for the most of my day. I live in florida and its summer now so all i want to do is be outside but i cant. Anyway, i also did have bit of a problem last night. I was lying down and all of a sudden i had a nose bleed so my first reaction was to freak out ahaha even though that never helps. It wouldnt stop for like 20 minutes even after i flushed my nose out, so i finally called my doctor(@11pm) and he told me take a flash light to look and see where the blood was coming from and from what i could see it looked like a blood clot coming out of my nose. I tried to pull it out but it wouldn't come out, it was stuck. My doctor told me to put my head back and put some ice packs on my nose to help. He said it would fall out today, but before i even went to bed last night as weird and gross as this may sound, the blood clot went back up into my nose. So as for today the clot did not come out, but it hasnt bled today. Has anyone ever had that happen to them? Anyway, if anyone has any advice on any of the problems i am having please dont hesitate to comment or message me. Any idea of what is going on would be a great help. Updated on 3 Jun 2015: June 10th will be 1 year post-op and im soooo HAPPY with the final results. No more bump no more indent on the tip of my nose (:
