Depending on what types of tooth movement was done, and because you are an older patient, you should wear retainers. &nbsp;I have my patients wear them 6 months full time, and for a long time at night. &nbsp;

	You can start to taper off by experimenting with how long you can leave them off without the retainer feeling tight when placed back in. &nbsp;You may be able to get to 1 day per week after a few years. &nbsp;For long term retainer wear, I do not use the Vivera type retainers as they wear out from chewing or grinding at night. &nbsp;I usually use a Hawley type retainer with an ASTICS clear wire across the front of the teeth.

I'm getting my first set of aligners in a few weeks and my treatment is going to take 9 month - 18 trays on upper and 15 on lower. So I was wondering wether or not I'd need retainers "forever" even though I'm only 17?

Do I Need Retainers After Invisalign Even Though I'm 17?

It looks as though you have what is known as a deep bite. &nbsp;The lower teeth probable bite on the back surface of the upper right canine, forcing it out of line. &nbsp;I would rather use fixed appliances in your case, but if you insist on removable appliances, I would use Invisalign. &nbsp;

	Invisalign will work, but make sure your orthodontist is highly skilled in using Invisaline as your case can be a little tricky.

I&#39;m a 21 yr old female who&#39;s had braces (and biteplate, spacers, and headgear). See picture. Mostly my teeth are straight, but with a protruding canine. This tooth previously required surgery to force descent. Here&rsquo;s the rub: I play flute/picc professionally, so I have to have something removable (or tiny), or I may lose my job. I hear Invisalign may not work so well for this; yes/no/other options?

In theory, all types of braces: fixed metal, fixed clear, or removable Invisalign can close gaps equally well. &nbsp;The orthodontist must determine what type of appliance will work best for your teeth.

	In my office, if Invisaline is not the best choice, I use SimpliClear clear braces and clear wires, not metal braces.

For significant gaps between the upper incisors, is the Invisalign system as effective at closing gaps as traditional, metal adult braces?

In some circumstances, buttons can be placed on the inside for both fixed braces and Invisalign. &nbsp;It depends on what direction the orthodontist is applying force to the teeth. &nbsp;You should ask the orthodontist if this is an option for you.

Can the buttons be applied lingual to avoid having the ugly bumps where they can be seen?

The rule is: do not eat food hard enough to break the braces. &nbsp;Generally prohibited food is similar to Jolly Rancher candy, bones, pretzel nuggets, pen caps, etc.

	There is no complete list, just remember do not chew very hard food.

Are There a Lot of Rules About Eating Properly when a Person Wears Braces?

When you have orthodontic treatment your relationship is with the orthodontist, not the manufacturer of the appliances used. &nbsp;

	If you are unhappy with treatment, either fixed braces or removable Invisalign, discuss the situation with the orthodontist. &nbsp;If the orthodontist is ethical, he will try to correct the problem either through re-treatment or refund. &nbsp;Also, he may tell you that your result is the best that can be done in your particular situation, and therefor no refund or retreatment is due. &nbsp;Your discussion with the orthodontist will be the same, no matter what type of appliances were used.

I have had treatment from own dentest for invisalgn, one year on my teeth are slipping back to the way they were before treatment, im not happy as i do ware my retainer every night. can i get my money back from the dentist due to this situation as i have spent a lot of money ?

Can I Get my Money Back if I Am Not Happy with the Results of Invisalign?

The treatment goals and plan are exactly the same with Invisalign or fixed braces, either clear or metal. &nbsp;Fixed braces can treat some types of teeth more quickly and efficiently. &nbsp;Your treatment goals should not be dictated by what type of appliances, either (fixed braces) or removable Invisalign).

	The limited information I can get from your description and the photographs, lead me to estimate about a one year treatment time for either fixed braces or Invisalign. &nbsp;You can use either, but I would rather use SimpliClear clear fixed braces in your case. &nbsp;I find that the intruding and tipping needed to correct your your upper front teeth are more predictable with fixed braces. &nbsp;The teeth can only be expanded a minor amount because you are an adult, so don&#39;t expect a dramatic change in the width of your smile.

I am 51 &amp; considering invisalign for cosmetic reasons. I have moderate crowding of my front teeth &amp; a cross bite on an upper molar on both sides; not the farthest one back but the one before that. My bottom teeth are perfectly straight. My front bite is a little deep. I went to one Ortho last week who did my kids braces (and did a nice job) who told me that he could fix me up in 9 months in invisalign. I didn&#39;t get into too many particulars, mostly b/c I don&#39;t understand the mechanics of braces. The price was reasonable. He was an elite provider. Today I went to another elite provider &amp; she indicated 16 months in invisalign &amp; told me how she is one of the few experts in the area that can really dramtically change the cosmetic aspects of the smile. She said she takes it an extra notch. She said she could correct my bite issues &amp; by doing some &quot;angulation&quot; of my front teeth, she could give me a nice wide smile &amp; it would also give me a &quot;face lift&quot; and fill out my lips &amp; cheeks. All of that sounded great. She said she get get rid of the black holes in my smile (which I didn&#39;t know I had) But then I got the price quote and there was a 2.5 K difference. Granted, the former Ortho was giving me a family discount as well as a professional discount. I would obviously prefer the dynamite smile, but much prefer the 1st guy&#39;s price tag. Would you recommend that I go back to the first ortho &amp; see if he can offer me the same thing? How do I initiate this conversation with him? Does the time frame in invisalign drive the price? Also, you will see I have a molar that is a baby tooth with no permanent tooth underneath. Both seemed to think treatment would not hasten it&#39;s demise.

Vast difference in opinion from Orthondontist RT treatment plan

Invisalign is not bonded to the teeth like fixed metal or ceramic brackets. &nbsp;

	Invisalign usually requires some small lumps of dental glue to be bonded to some of the teeth. &nbsp;This is polished off by the orthodontist with a dental drill when treatment is complete.

	Metal or ceramic brackets are removed with pressure applied to the bracket. &nbsp;The residual dental glue on each tooth is then polished off by the orthodontist with a dental drill.

Is the removal process the same? Is the surface of the tooth in better shape after Invisalign is removed, or does it not matter?

Is the Procedure for Removing Invisalign Braces Different from Metal Braces?

Yes, It is safe. &nbsp;The acid is only used on a very small part of the teeth which is covered by enamel. &nbsp;The enamel has no nerves and will not become sensitive, and the etching layer is very shallow and will cause no permanent damage to the teeth.

In order to place the buttons for Invisalign the enamel has to be roughed up using acid. Is this a bad idea if someone already has soft and sensitive teeth?

Is Acid Etching to Prepare for Invisalign Ok for Sensitive Teeth?

There is always an option to using metal braces. &nbsp;

	If the orthodontist thinks removable appliances are an option, Invisalign is one possibility. &nbsp;Clear braces made of ceramic are another option. &nbsp;SimpliClear clear wires with ceramic clear brackets are the treatment of choice when removable appliances are not an option.
