Hair transplant surgeon specializing in manual FUE as well as FUT transplants.
My procedure had been postponed for about two years due to COVID and my diabetes diagnosis, but it was worth the wait. The whole experience from beginning to end was impeccable. It started with two different virtual meetings with Dr Varona. One initial one, and another as we got closer to my procedure. Dr. Varona reviewed the procedure and answered every question I had. Leading up to flying in from Florida, I was advised of how the whole day would be laid out and what to expect. From the minute I arrived, I was taken care of by the staff who explained every step to me. It was a full day and I headed back to my hotel to recuperate and return the next morning for my wash. My post care was explained to me in detail then and I was sent off with all that I needed to care for myself post-surgery. I am healing nicely and very excited about my results. Looking forward to the next few months when I really start to see the new hair come in.
From my first meeting with Raymond and Dr. Varona I felt extremely comfortable and confident in Dr. Varona’s abilities. Dr. Varona and his staff were amazing during the pre-op, operation and post-op phases of my procedure and I am ecstatic with the result. I highly recommend Varona Hair Restoration.
Dr. Varona and his staff did an unbelievable job with my procedure. The team made me feel at ease with how kind and thorough they were throughout the process. The results look great too! I would definitely recommend Varona Hair Restoration to anyone who is looking for excellent results with top notch customer service.

I am officially two weeks post op from my FUT hair restoration with Dr. Christopher Varona of Varona Hair Restoration in beautiful Newport Beach, California. Dr. Varona is beyond gifted. He possesses this uncanny ability to both put you at ease and place you in utter and complete confidence. He makes you feel self-assured and with each moment that passes, you grow in assurance that you are under the care of a true master and artist. I had extensive hair loss since I was a late teen. Being in my late 20’s and a transgender woman, I was really tired and really exhausted by the constant dread of looking in the mirror and never seeing who I truly am. People often do not understand the feminizing and restorative aspects that come with hair, but when you don’t have any hair, it doesn’t matter if your face looks as though you were Venus and sculpted from marble, it’s still a pretty man and not a woman. My hair restoration journey, therefore, is so much different than so many other people. I was not motivated by appearances’ sake solely but also led by the conviction of my heart and soul to be who I am, and I can thank no other than Dr. Varona and his partner, Eduardo Silva, for helping me get back on track in restoring my identity to its true and proper state. The procedure began in the morning. Dr. Varona’s physician’s assistant, Ruby, welcomed me into the practice. I was taken to meet Vanessa and Raquel, two of Dr. Varona’s associates and technicians that I would spend most of the rest of the day with. Everything felt so class, and so relaxing. I’d been in the stages of recovering from two surgeries, facial feminization as well as vertical sleeve gastrectomy, and everyone on the team was so kind and courteous to me. I was taken into the operating theatre after meeting Dr. Varona and Eduardo. They are two of the kindest souls I’ve ever yet met, and again, I cannot repeat how blessed I was to be in this position and how humbling it was to realize that the state of my life could possibly change in the following hours. When you don’t have hair, and you live your life outwardly as a woman, one relies so much on wigs, hair extensions, and all sorts of systems and ways of concealing the fact one has lost such a major part of their physical appearance, that it was time that drudgery was set behind me and I was ready to embrace my new future. Dr. Varona began my creating a new feminine hairline for me. He is a true artist and took his time, and his entire team made sure that the hairline was not merely proper but also exceedingly complementary to my appearance. As I had a hairline/scalp advancement as part of my facial feminization surgery performed by Dr. Harrison H. Lee in Beverly Hills, California, two months prior, Dr. Varona created a hairline that was just a bit over it, but perfectly so. He meticulously carved and created the strip of hair from the back of my head by which all the grafts would be harvested from. Everything was done in complete ease, as Ruby was so conscientious of making sure I was without pain and his team, particularly Vanessa and Eduardo, were all attentive in ensuring my comfort throughout this process. From then, Dr. Varona’s team of technicians created the grafts that were to be transplanted. His amazing team, which consisted of Raquel, Vanessa, Rosie and Richard created 3,193 grafts, which Dr. Varona and the team would harvest and place in my scalp for the actual hair restoration. After around noon and until 9pm, Dr. Varona and his team carefully and beautifully filled in the top of my head and created my new hairline with these 3,193 grafts. It was a true masterpiece and work of art to see myself at the end of the day with hair where once there was nothing and for so long, I thought that would all that would be for me: nothing. Therefore, it is so important for me to state how life-changing this procedure by Dr. Varona was for me and how affirming of my life and my identity this entire experience has been. The littlest things were what made this all so magical. As soon as I walked into the operating theatre, Dr. Varona gave me his personal Netflix to watch whatever I’d wanted. Eduardo had spent so much time prior to my appointment getting to know me and my goals. During the procedure, Ruby went out of her way to share so much of her life and interact with me. Dr. Varona’s techs Vanessa, Raquel, Rosie and Richard all got to me know personally and I, them. It was in the sharing of stories, ideas, goals all interspersed with the clinical miracle of planting hair that I ceased being who I was and entered into this miraculous state of having hope again in seeing myself for who I truly am. I cannot thank this team enough for their hard work and all their efforts in making me so happy and so pleased with my results. As I am now officially two weeks post-op, I can confidently say Dr. Varona has performed a most excellent job on a most harrowing and complex patient. I am beyond grateful to Eduardo and Dr. Varona for making my dream into my true reality.
Dr. Varona is simply put, the BEST IN THE BUSINESS! He is an artist and meticulous to the point that he will stay in his office all night if that's what it takes for the best results to come out. The procedure is not merely transactional, once completed he is by your side to answer any and all questions/concerns for the long-run. As a true professional and expert in the field, Dr. Varona will restore your confidence and image for you like he did for me.
Most amazing and talented in the country. I have used Dr Varona twice. After the first time I was truly amazed and could net believe the results. I stopped taking Finasteride so unfortunately I needed to go in for a refresh. Once again- amazing and caring. His staff is just as amazing and knowledgeable.
My experience from the moment I had my consultation to the day of my procedure and beyond were wonderful. Dr. Varona and his staff are very accommodating and made this procedure a dream come true. Pleased is an understatement when describing my feelings towards the end result. I will definitely be back in the future!
Dr. Varona is the gold standard of the hair transplant industry. I personally went through 10 consultations with doctors up and down the coast, with many of doctors acting like salesman, pushing maximum number of grafts, and not looking after my best interests or considering future balding patterns. Dr. Varona was very different and was extremely sincere and real from our first meeting, he thoroughly explained everything and told me to not rush and make a decision that I thought was best, and gave his honest feedback. I ended up choosing him for surgery, and Dr. Varona was there through the whole procedure checking up on me and making sure I was ok doing an excellent job The overall surgery was a good experience, and I’m excited to see for the results to come. Lastly, Eduardo is the patient advisor and he is awesome, and very understanding, helpful and responsive. I strongly recommend Dr. Varona and his overall practice and staff!
Hands down Dr. Varona has a special gift. This is an art and the amount of time and effort Dr. Varona puts in to perfect the outcomes for his patients is impeccable. I had the FUE treatment and my results are honestly better than I ever thought they would be. I was always on edge leaving my house worrying about how my hair looks, now when I go out people literally say I have some of the best hair they have seen. I work in the medical field with ENT's and Facial plastic physicians. I sell medical devices and consult physicians. The most important piece of information I tell my accounts is that you have to not only give the best results, but also the best patient experience. Dr. Varona has all of this. This is obviously a procedure that is a personal concern to people as it was for me. Like I previously stated not only are the results beyond what I could've imagined, the patient experience was unbelievable. I have Dr. Varona's personal number and he picks up the phone whenever I text or call with a question. This man has a special gift and talent and he has completely changed my life and I will always be grateful for him.
Unfortunately the scar tissue usually replaces the hair follicles so there most likely won't be hair growing back in the area. Replacing the follicles with a transplant can camoflage the scar tissue in the area where the eyebrow previous was and restore symmetry to the face. The angles of the grafts are critical for a natural result so its important to find a surgeon experienced with this specialized type of transplant.
I would recommend doing micro pigmentation into the harvested areas first and see if that takes away the contrast enough. I'm thinking transplanting into the areas might improve it slightly but you'll still see the color contrast of the lighter scar tissue vs the surrounding tissue and dark hair. If you try the micropigmentation first and are not satisfied, you can always add some grafts at that point. But chances are, you might not need to.
Based on your age and thinning pattern, I'd strongly encourage you to find some method of prevention to try before doing surgery. You have a diffuse pattern of loss and would need a very large number of grafts to make an impact right now. You may get a similar impact from something like minoxidil, finasteride, or high concentration PRP. Or a combination of these. As you get older, your loss will progress so jumping into surgery without stabilizing things first would not be the wisest thing in my opinion. Try to maximize what you have first and slow it down. Then see if you need surgery and how much surgery.
Trimming your hair or shaving your hair should not cause a problem for your consultation. That said, I have had patients who shave their head with a bic razor every morning that it made it difficult to assess. If you shave that close, I would leave some stubble the day of your consult.
In general the transplanted grafts take 12-16 months to see the final results. You'll see a big visual change typically between 6-9 months but the density will continue to increase to a lesser extent up to 12 months. Some of the characteristics of the growing hair like curl, color, and of course length will further mature between the 12-16th month. So I think its too early to say your current state is the final result.
