I have a small black tattoo on the back of my right that is the size of a quarter. I got it 4 years ago. How many sessions would it take to remove this? And how much do you think it will cost? I may have to have this removed in order to join the military.

The number of treatment sessions is not dependent on the size of the tattoo. &nbsp;Black tattoos generally clear in 4-6 sessions, red might take an additional 1-2. &nbsp;Tattoo placement is traumatic; six weeks recovery is recommended.&nbsp; “Recovered” skin responds better to the laser. Wait these few weeks! You'll appreciate the outcome!

I just got a tattoo (smaller than a quarter black and red heart) on my rib cage. I'm a very small girl, not sure if that would change how deep the ink would go. Question is, how many treatments should something like this take? I'm not taking care of it so when it flakes it wills fade some. 	What would have taken 8-12 sessions of tattoo removal treatments with previous laser technology, can be expected be take only 4-6 sessions the PicoSure laser !! This not only reduces the amount of time invested , but the overt cost of travel, appointments and time off!

How much does tattoo removal cost?

First, we recommend waiting six weeks before removing a new tattoo with a laser.&nbsp; Laser is the first line treatment for tattoos, as the chance of scarring is remote.&nbsp; With an excision of the upper back and shoulder regions, there is significant risk of a thickened scar or keloid, in your case, possibly six inches in length.

	With older, nano-technology lasers, these type of tattoos could take up to 15-20 sessions, but with our new Picosure pico-second laser, we are seeing resolution of these types of tattoos in half the treatment sessions, roughly 4-6 treatments. &nbsp;

If a tattoo is fresh (only a few months old), is laser even an option, or would 15-20 sessions still not remove something so fresh/dark (it's only black, 2 inces wide x 6 inches long)? I'm fairly pale, and my skin really absorbed the ink. Also, is <a href="/Excision/info">excision</a> not an option on an "active" area like the shoulder blade? Even w/grafting? I know the scar would be major, but I desperately want the tattoo gone.
