Let me start by saying Dr. Suggs is awesome. He has great bedside manner, is kind, listens to what you have to say, answers all your questions, and is a very skilled Dr. So here's a little rundown on how my surgery went. Around September 15th I emailed Dr. Sugg's office and got a quick response from Emma Laura. Their office is very organized and sent me everything I needed to read and fill out. I live in another state about 4 1/2 hours away so it was setup for me to arrive for a pre-op with Dr. Suggs the day before my surgery (October 8th). The next day (October 9th) I had surgery and spent one night at the hospital. Everyone was so kind and helpful. After being discharged from the hospital (October 10th) I spent two nights at a local hotel then met Dr. Suggs October 12th for my post-op appointment and was cleared to go home.
From what I have read this will help me be fuller faster and with the help of a dietician stop from over eating. I am on my fourth day with the balloon and the cramps are pretty strong. I get my next balloon on April 11th. So far in four days I’ve lost 5 pounds. I only started eating solid foods until yesterday. Updated on 30 Mar 2018: So I still have cramps but last night I actually got to sleep through the whole night and didn't take a single pill for the cramps. This morning when I woke up I did feel cramps as soon as I got up but they haven't been as bad so hopefully this will god away soon. I get random hiccups every now and then too but they go away after two or three. Updated on 11 Apr 2018: So I had my second balloon placed two days ago. This is my third week going on my fourth week in 3 days. So far I have lost over 8 pounds. This second day of my second balloon I have experienced pretty much what I experienced with the first. Random hiccups every now and then and cramping. I'm hoping that like the first balloon the cramps will go away by my fifth day. My doctor told me that besides medication prescribed, peppermint tea and altoids were good for this. I get my third balloon May 14th. Wish me luck. Updated on 9 Oct 2018: So I have successfully completed 6 months of Obalon and have lost 30 pounds. Pros are obviously the weight loss and the confidence I have in my body now. I have learned to portion my sizes and to make better decisions. The Cons are the side effects of the procedure. I burped a lot, my bowel movements were very irregular, every now and then I would experience diarrhea (not often), bloating and morning nausea. I am glad I did this but I did not enjoy it one bit
We encourage our patients to eat about 8oz at each meal at 1 year post-op. It can be difficult and challenging!
