Shuhao Zhang, MD

I'm a 30 year old woman 5'8 180lbs ; one child. I went to Dr.Zhang for breast reduction after 6 years of serious contemplation. After giving birth to my baby I've decided it's time to get the procedure done due to uncomfortably large breast. I've seen three previous surgeons for a consultation, but no one could confidently give me the result I wished for. My goal was to reduce my symptoms of shoulder, neck and back pain while still maintaining full breast to fit my figure. My pre-op size was 36G and post-op i'm 36DD. Dr. Zhang is to thank for I am truly grateful for his wonderful expertise. He carefully listened to my concerns and delivered breath-taking results. This was my first surgery and I was beyond pleased with the level of confidence and excellent communication Dr. Zhang exhibited.
My surgery was a breeze and I look exactly like my inspirational wish picture I showed to Dr. Zhang prior to the procedure. He is truly great at his work. I had a great experience. My results exceeded my expectations. Dr. Zhang was honest and I appreciate a Dr. who is honest and not just telling me what they think I want to hear. My healing was easy, I was back at work after being off a week. Getting my procedure done was the best decision I have ever made.

Had implant removal and lift and my results are fabulous. Used to live in socal so my expectations are high. He’s very personable, knowledgeable, relaxed and confident. Highly recommended.

It's been a little over 3 months since my reconstructive surgery. I had two surgeons involved: one to remove a breast tumor and Dr. Shuhao Zhang, who did the reconstructive surgery and both breasts (to even them out). Never in a million years, would I have ever imagined having to go through cosmetic surgery for myself so I was really apprehensive. I even debated on not getting it done.

Dr. Zhang was amazing through the whole process - from pre-op, through surgery and follow-up appointments. I tend to ask a lot of questions and he was very patient and answered every single one of them; he helped me to understand the process and approach. Pain was never an issue for me; not even in the slightest and I stopped pain meds during the second week of recovery. I was afraid of scaring/keloids but I followed his instructions and have no scaring.

The only challenge I had was before the surgery when I was trying to book the surgery with his front office. I was told one date and then I was told it would be a couple of weeks later. I had to contact the office several times to get it sorted out. Repeatedly I was told that someone would return my phone call within the day or by a certain time and no one returned my call. I would have to call back. This happened several times. However, after the surgery, when I called, the staff was more responsive.

For Dr. Zhang's compassion, care, bedside manner and surgery excellence, I would give him 5 stars.
For his front office customer service before the operation, I would give them 2 stars.

When I say the procedure I had with Dr Zhang changed my life I mean it. I had a previous breast augmentation done about 15 years prior. One implant had herniated through the muscle and I looked like an absolute wreck. I was lopsided, uneven with a shifting implant on one side. I believe the previous plastic surgeon had overinflated the implants beyond what were appropriate for my body size and then after having another child things just went really south for me.

Once Dr Zhang took a look told me his game plan I felt secure although of course we all feel nervous as it’s a huge financial investment and I was worried about by breasts not looking ok ever again. He listened to me concerns, addressed them, agreed on the size being smaller what we needed to do to address the hernia issue (mesh) and we completed the surgery six months ago. I am so unbelievably happy with the results. I was in constant pain before with the herniated implant, of course not only is that gone, but the pendulous motion and awkwardness I would often have to face with my old larger breast size is now a thing of the past, my shape is fabulous and the healing was great. I feel like a new person again. My surgery was not an easy one as it was a reconstruction and Dr Zhang handled it like an artist and a total pro. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Zhang and his staff are the best! I was seen at both of his offices and both office staff were great. Dr. Zhang answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable. The surgery went great and recovery has been easy. I’ve had a few post op appts and every time they have been great. His nurse practitioner helped remove my steri strips which was painless and easy. She calmed my nerves about some swelling and was very comforting. If you’re thinking of seeing or choosing Dr. Zhang do it! It’s worth it.

My cancer journey started in 2018 with a DMX to a flat result. While this was an okay result, I gained some weight and had a hollowed out look that made me uncomfortable.
In 2020 I met with Dr. Zhang and he said that I would still be able to have a DIEP procedure if I started with expanders. So in August of 2020 Dr. Zhang placed the expanders and by November I was ready for DIEP. Scheduling issues prevented me from completing the process in the same calendar year but in April of 2021 my DIEP was completed. The surgery was long (9-10 hrs) but everything went as expected. I spent 2 nights at Mercy San Juan. The nursing staff was fabulous and were very careful with me and my new flaps. Thankfully, the flaps survived. Healing was a slow process, but I was up walking and feeling good within about two weeks. I initially had 4 drains, the first two were out after about 10 days and the other two after about a month.
Dr Zhang monitored my healing and answered all of my questions. The abdominal aspect of this surgery was something way more significant then I had imagined. I am happy to report that I have a waistline again and a flat abdominal wall. My former belly created about C cup breast which is actually a bit larger then I was to start.
After almost a year of healing and living in my updated body I can honestly say that I am happy to have gone through this process and that Dr. Zhang was thorough and meticulous with the work he did. My breasts have scars as I was flat after my DMX, but the scars are continuing to fade. I have not yet decided if I want to have 3D tattoos so that is still a possibility. The best part is that my new breasts are soft and feel very natural. Currently, I do not feel any need to have additional surgeries to tweak the work Dr. Zhang completed.

The first pic is two years post dmx. The rest are 10 months post DIEP with Dr. Shuhao Zhang. While the fading is staring to take place. I expect it will take a full two years for everything to fade like it did with my DMX. Dr. Zhang also said I could have a procedure to help lighten the scars more quickly, but I would like to give my body some more time to heal on its own.

I cant say enough about Dr. Shuhao Zhang and his staff at both Gold River Plastic Surgery & Laser Center and Dignity Health Mercy Medical Group. They have been Fantastic! From my first consultation, where I expected to be disappointed was just hoping for some advice, I was immediately put at ease. Dr. Zhang’s advice and expertise gave me hope.

I have always been somewhere between thick and obese. Even in high school, when I became more active and committed to working out, I was never thin, just muscular. When I moved from a construction job where I was constantly active to a teaching position, that muscle tone not only decreased, it disappeared behind my added weight. Diets would work on the short term, but I always packed more on after stopping. Between the depression I was having about the weight and my family history of diabetes and heart conditions, I decided to have gastric bypass surgery. That process was difficult, but has been worth it. My health has been great with my blood pressure and blood sugars actually dropping. More importantly, my weight dropped and has stayed gone. One would think that would be enough to make me happy, and it has. However, it left me with a flap of flabby, flappy skin around my waist. I was pleased with most pictures of me, seeing the progress that I had made, but some would show that flap and the depression would set back in. I had never really felt good about taking my shirt off in public and had hoped that the bypass surgery would give me that confidence, but it didn’t.

After discussing this with my primary care physician, I got a referral to Dr. Zhang and everything has been incredible since. Dr. Zhang gave me all of my options, from skin removal to full tummy tuck. After a lot of discussion with my family, and finding a way to finance it, I decided on the full tummy tuck. While Dr. Zhang and his staff gave me a lot of hope, I was not completely optimistic. But the staff was always there for me and I had no surprises. I was advised what to expect was always able to talk to Dr. Zhang and his staff when I had a concern. My surgery and healing have been phenomenal. Dr Zhang’s skills really shined on me. I am approaching a year since my surgery, my scars are healed and hidden. While I still see myself as thick, I don’t worry when I want to take my shirt off to get in to the pool. I don’t find myself hiding when I see someone with a camera. My family says they can feel the added confidence I have. Dr. Zhang and his staff have changed my life in a very positive way.

I came to see Dr Zhang after losing 150 pounds. I had access skin I just could t get rid over for over two years. Dr Zhang was not only professional but he took great care for me. The surgery was a success, he did a phenomenal job in removing my access skin as well as fighting my abdominal muscles. His compassion has given me a new outlook in life and I plan I going back to him for other work I need done. Dr Zhang is the best of the best and I recommend him to anyone that needs that extra compassionate care. I am super happy with my results and I cannot wait to see what else he can do in order to improve my quality of life. Thank you Dr Zhang for being absolutely amazing!

I had an upper bleph done by Dr. Zhang. I have had hooded eyes my whole life and it has always bothered me. I had the procedure done under local anesthesia i was nervous being awake for the proceed but he made me feel very comfortable and calm the whole time. He has a great bedside manner. I love how my results turned out! I love how my eyes look natural just refreshed.
