How much of a difference does losing weight prior to a tummy tuck and lipo make in achieving positive results?

It is optimal to be at a weight that is comfortably maintained for best results after tummy tuck. a recent history of massive weight loss puts one at risk of healing problems. Weight gain after, of course, undoes some of the cosmetic improvement. I ask my patients to try to achieve a weight that can reasonably be maintained prior to this surgery. Most patients will lose weight after surgery as the feel full sooner, and are more physically able to exercise once fully healed.

I want my abs tighten and excess skin removed. What procedure would you recommend? How much will it cost? (photo)

On the single profile view I am looking at, I think you would do well with a laser liposuction procedure.  Most of the fat outside of the muscle wall can be removed and the skin tightened with this method.  To achieve optimal results however, you would also need to pursue a low carb and calorie restrictive diet in order to reduce some of the bulge due to fat inside of the abdomen.

I want a more defined jaw with a smoother, tighter looking face. What surgery is advisable at age 22? (photos)

Looking at your photos, I see that you are a very pretty young woman, with just a little bit of fullness around the jawline and under the chin. This is preventing that more defined and chiseled appearance that you desire. You are a prefect candidate to get the results you desire from a slim lipo procedure in the area.  The results are excellent and the surgery is not very invasive at all.

I am 21yrs old and have not had children yet. Do I have any other options that are less invasive that a Tummy Tuck? (photos)

Looking at your photos, I see you have some excess fatty tissue, particularly in the mid abdomen, along with some stretchmarks and looseness of the skin. the ideal procedure for this is a tummy tuck, however I deffinitely do not recommend this prior to having children. A suitable alternative would be to have last assisted liposuction to reduce the fat and also achieve some degree of skin tightening. It certainty would not give you the result of the tummy tick, but is the best option right now.

Is it possible to have a Tummy Tuck with a pre-exisiting midline hypertrophic scar? (photos)

In my practice I have, on numerous occasions, done a tummy tuck on a patient with previous abdominal scars, sometimes even hypertrophic scars or keliods.  Due to the inflexible nature of many hypertrophic or keliod scars, it is often necessary to actually excise the hypertrophic/keliod tissue at the time of the tummy tuck.  When this is done there is much greater ease of stretching the abdominal skin flap down to the pubic area.  The results, however, can be very good and this by no means prevents a good, safe and effective tummy tuck from taking place.

How long does it take to recover from Smart Lipo?

Of course the amount of time needed to recover from any procedure has directly to do with the extent of the procedure and, particularly, how much fat is removed. Smart lipo is a type of laser assisted liposuction.  Typically it is a much faster and easier recovery then traditional standard, tumescent liposuction, however the results in terms of time frame do very greatly.  Generally, one to two weeks for a patient to be relatively pain free and approximately four to six weeks to notice a significant recontouring of the area as swelling can be present when large areas are suctioned.

Can Botox cause flu-like symptoms?

According to the original studies, the presence of fatigue, muscular weakness, and headaches are all possible adverse side effects of Botox injections.  Interestingly, however, these symptoms were also present in a number of patients who were given a placebo and not given Botox.  So, whereas it is possible to have these types of symptoms, it is not necessarily attributable to the Botox and does not necessarily indicate a direct adversa effect from a Botox injection.

Is Greenish tint on dressing a sign of infection after tummy tuck?

After a tummy tuck a greenish tint present on the dressing is a little cause for concern.  Though not absolutely indicative of a sign of infection, there is a very strong possibility that there is an infection or a least contamination with a bacteria called pseudomonas.  Particularly if the green exudate has a particularly foul smell.  This bacteria causes a greenish discoloration on discharge.  I would definitely go back to the surgeon who has performed the operation immediately and bring this to his or her attention.  Cultures should be taken, particularly looking for pseudomonas with sensitives to various antibiotics that may be used in its treatment.

What causes fluid build up after tummy tuck?

During a tummy tuck procedure, the abdominal skin and fat is raised off the abdominal muscles up to the level of the rib cage.  Upon closure, the skin is pulled down and stitched in at the pubic area.  The space that remains between the skin flap and the muscle will produce fluid build up for a certain number of days until the fat layer behind the skin sticks back down onto the muscle, obliterating that space.  This is the reason we use drains after a tummy tuck.  Occasionally even after the drains are removed there is a little bit of fluid build up and this can usually be resolved by aspirating that fluid with a needle.  It is usually not necessary to replace the drains to correct this.

Could pressing/blotting one of the Botox injection sites several times cause it to spread to my eyelid, causing it to droop?

When eyelid droop occurs after a Botox injection, it is generally due to the spread of the toxin into the levator muscle which holds the eyelid position.  This muscle which is present underneath the eye socket is remote from most Botox injections.  However, if there is bleeding or excessive pressure from pressing or blotting on an injection in the upper eyelid region, it is theoretically possible for some of the toxin to reach this muscle and cause droop.  The good news is, over time, this eyelid droop is entirely reversible and should prove much quicker then the normal amount of time it takes for a Botox to wear off.

I am just beginning my research as to what I might want, need, afford, handle, etc. I am a new-ish widow in my 60's and want to look better.
