Went in for a crown, but got Zoom and cosmetic work also.
Chipped my teeth so I had to have them done. Worth it if you get it done properly i.e. by a different dentist.Updated on 8 Jun 2012:Hjhhhh
I would not do lumineers. There are many other porcelain manufacturers that do minimal preparation which requires a small amount of tooth reduction or no prep that look far more natural than lumineers. The decision should be based on the shape of the tooth and how it is aligned in the arch. Another thing to consider is minor orthodontic movement which would move your tooth into a more favorable position and require less tooth reduction which is ALWAYS the best long term option for a healthy tooth.
The simple answer is that yes lumineers can be placed over existing crowns however that is not the preferred treatment option in our office. Even though lumineers are thin this would add extra bulk to the tooth in most cases resulting in less than an ideal esthetic result. Also the age of the crown is a factor and the material used to manufacture it. If the crown is over 5 years old it may need replacement in the near future which would necessitate your having to redo the lumineer. The best option would be to remove the crown and redo with a lumineer or veneer.
Generally speaking porcelain veneers are generally the preferred treatment option in our office because they require less reduction of tooth structure. However, if the tooth already has a crown then it must be replaced by a crown. Also you can do a combination of veneers and crowns depending upon the condition of the tooth and if done by an experienced dentist and a quality dental lab it is not discernable which tooth has the veneer or crown.
It is fairly easy for any dentist to be able to ascertain if your restorations are procelain or composite. If in doubt, see a reputable dentist in your area for a second opinion. Another factor is that most veneers require two appointments. The first involves preparation of your tooth structure followed by a impression that is sent to the lab. The second appointment is generally two weeks later when the veneer is bonded to the tooth.
Invisalign is an excellent treatment modality or relapse of prior othodontic treatment. From your picture it appears that you would be a good candidate for invisalign. The cost in our area ranges from $2999 for invisalign express to $4000 to $5000 for invisalign full mouth treatment. Also you should treat both arches so that your lower tooth does not cause your upper to move again. And an upper retainer should be worn after treatment has been completed so that your teeth do not shift back.
