I'm not a big writer and usually I don't give any reviews, but I decided to share my feelings about the amazing surgeon Dr. Silkiss. I had problems with my upper eye lids after having severe allergic reaction, allergic conjunctivitis. My eyes started to look old and tired and the most upsetting thing that I had no side view, it was blocked by my dropping eye lids. Fortunately I have great ophthalmologist Dr. Kutscher, who explained that I have ptosis and I need to have a surgery. He recommended the best surgeon in Bay Area Dr. Rona Silkiss, who specializes on eyes. When I scheduled the appointment with Dr. Silkiss I told her that I have a medical necessity to do the surgery and wasn't even thinking about cosmetic part of it. During the consultation Dr. Silkiss pointed out my puffy eye-lids and explained that for medical necessity she will not touch this part, but if I want it to look better I will also need another "cosmetic procedure" and I agreed right away. Now I have to explain who I am. I am a person, who is afraid of pain, who had very bad experience from previous surgery (hardly survived, spent 1 month at ICU with no hope for recovery) and so on. I would even say that I had some kind of PTSD on any kind of surgeries. And PAIN, even thinking of it brings my hot flashes back :-))) Dr. Silkiss was so calm, she said: "You will experience no pain at all, maybe some sore eyes, but that's the most" Somehow I trusted her and Thanks God I did!!!!!!So, I signed up for Medical Necessity and Cosmetic part as well. The cosmetic part is not cheap, but trust me it's worth the money. Ask Dr. Silkiss' assistant while picking up where to have a surgery. I initially signed up for CPMC but I was offered to go to Walnut Creek and have a surgery at Aspen Surgical Center and it was a huge difference in money. Now the most important part: I was told that it would be no general Anastasia but it will be a sedation. For me sedation worked like general Anastasia, I slept as a baby during the surgery and did not feel anything at all. The most surprising part was that I did not feel any pain even after the surgery, not at all. Before the surgery I prepared all possible over the counter pain killers, but I did not take even one pill. It was no need for it!!!! My eyes looked great on the second day after the surgery. I sent pictures to my friends and everyone was amazed how different I started to look. I look at least 10 years younger now!!!!And now why I'm saying that Rona Silkiss is the best? Because her stitches are so accurate that you cannot even see them on the day of the surgery, I had no black eyes (as a lot of patients have), and the most important part is that she uses her brain and being creative while doing her job. I had permanent make up (the eyeliner is tattooed on my upper and lower lids) and if she would do the surgery on traditional way, my make up would be gone (at least the arrows at the end of the eyes) but she closed my eyes not traditionally, she closed them on the top of my tattoos. It was more difficult to do but she wanted me to look perfect and now I do!!!!I know that it might be difficult to get a first appointment with Dr. Sillkiss but trust me she deserves to be waited for! She is simply amazing and I'm giving her 12 out of 10! Thank you Dr. Silkiss because of you I now have trust to the medical professionals again! Updated on 26 Nov 2019: Somehow I uploaded the wrong picture for my "after", so now I hope I put a correct one :-) Still feel great, my stitches were removed yesterday. Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to after surgery ointment and now has to take more pills to get rid of this, but my eyes still look great!
My father was suffering from an eyelid draping problem, which also caused his eyelashes grew inside and poked his eyes. Dr. Silkiss suggested an upper eyelid surgery that will cut part of the draping eyelid for both eyes. The surgery took around 30 minutes, and it went smoothly. It only took a few days for my father to be fully recovered. My father is so happy about the result. His eyes problems are gone and he feels his eyes are not irritating anymore. Thanks to Dr. Silkiss. Right now, my father is more confident and he's more like to talk and socialize with others.
I'm 51 and SO ready to finally get rid of these bags under my eyes that have bothered me since childhood! Curious to hear feedback from any of you who may have feedback/experience with doctors in my area. I've had one consultation with a San Francisco "Top Doctor" here on RealSelf, I am scheduled with another on August 26th, and have one more with an oculoplastic surgeon on August 24th. I am leaning toward the latter for the "delicate touch factor", but I'm in no rush in this decision. I feel like this is THE most important part of the process, so I want to take my time and get as much information as possible before committing. October is my goal in having surgery. Any feedback would be appreciated and welcomed! Thank you! Jacqueline Updated on 15 Oct 2015: After much consideration and consultation, I decided on Rona Silkiss, MD FACS out of Oakland and Walnut Creek, CA for my lower blepharoplasty and skin removal. So far, I'm doing great! Everything went so smoothly, I was treated with the utmost respect by this very professional surgeon; and like a precious jewel by the nurses at her surgery center (Aspen) in Walnut Creek. Dr. Silkiss has done "thousands" of these, and it was obvious in consultation. I'm virtually pain-free, bruising is not too bad, and the swelling has already gone down a lot! Of course, it's only DAY 1, but I'm feeling pretty confident that my research will have paid off. Au revoir, beauties! Jac. Updated on 22 Oct 2015: Stitches that hadn't yet dissolved were removed, and I was given the ok to try putting contacts in again and use a bit of makeup - BUT NO RUBBING. Me and Dr. Silkiss both very happy so far. Updated on 29 Oct 2015: Just thought I'd post an updated photo for those who have asked how I'm doing. Thanks for your kind words. My next follow-up appointment with Dr. Silkiss is in 3 weeks. I'm doing great - aftercare, aftercare, aftercare! Au revoir, Jacqueline Updated on 11 Nov 2015: Just an update and a photo, with makeup. Photo was actually taken at 26 days on my first day back to work. I'm doing great! My lower lids are still numb, and there is still some deep bruising, easily covered by makeup. (By the way, I am wearing much less makeup now - not feeling the need to TRY to cover up all those bags!) When I look at my before photo here, compared to this one, it makes me so happy. Better every day :) Au revoir, beauties! Jac.
I recently underwent upper eyelid surgery with Dr. Silkiss. I am totally thrilled with the results. Dr. Silkiss is intelligent, talented and thoughtful. Every aspect of the process was efficient and professional. I look 10 years younger. I would recommend Dr. Silkiss to anyone interested in using the best eyelid surgeon!
Dr Silkiss did an upper eyelid surgery on me last year. After the surgery one of my eyes had the double fold the other was swollen and puffy and looked worse then before the surgery. I asked her and she said it tooks 6 months to "settle". When I want back to her in 6 months with the same issue she said I should have told her sooner. She said I would need a new surgery which she was going to charge me full price for. She seemed to blame me. I went to another Doctor and he showed me I had 1 CM more skin on the bad eye than the good one. He asked if I was laying down when she marked the skin to remove. I didn't know what he was talking about because she didn't mark my eyelids at all. After more research I found marking the eye lids before surgery is the standard pratice. She just "free handed" my lids. My second surgery with the new doctor was a total success both eye lids are perfect now. She may be good at other operations but she is not good for cosmetic issues.
I had my upper and lower eyes done a month ago by Dr Silkiss . She did a wonderful job,as she removed enough fat tissue around my eyes . It's not noticeable that I had any work done at all. Thank you Dr Silkiss . I would highly recommend Dr Silkiss .I will be going back to Dr Silkiss if I ever need anymore work done to my self
Surgery scheduled for October 27. So excited!! I've been wanting to do this for a long time. Dr. Silkiss was very personable and professional in my consultation and answered all my questions without hesitation. I am having the surgery under IV sedation at a surgery clinic in Marin County. Her main office is in Oakland but she travels to different locations throughout the month. I will post more pics after the surgery. Will be off work for 8 days. Updated on 27 Oct 2015: Today is the day. Anxious but excited. I'll post pics. Updated on 28 Oct 2015: Had surgery yesterday. It was a piece of cake minimal pain. Only took one Norco last night to help me sleep. Updated on 12 Nov 2015: Post op was so easy and pain free. Very little bruising and swelling. I wish I would have done it sooner.
After years of looking at photos of myself with a left drooping eyelid that made me look lethargic and unattractive, I found myself benefitting from cataract surgery that left my eyes with 20/20 vision, but the pupil of my left eye partially blocked and my eyelid still sagging. Fortunately, my cataract surgeon recommended the best ophthalmic plastic eyelid surgeon in the entire San Francisco Bay Area... if not beyond: Dr. Rona Z. Silkiss. This surgeon is the most phenomenal doctor you could ever imagine. In this day and age, I think any surgeon works hard, but this surgeon is extraordinary! She covers more territory, serves patients in more locations, and works with more professional physicians than you could ever imagine. She is "on the go" constantly -- from Walnut Creek to Palo Alto to Marin County to downtown Oakland and San Francisco -- serving patients from every economic and demographic strata and responding to every condition you could imagine. My encounter with her was quick, extremely professional, and completely successful. The surgery was easy and painless. The recovery quick. The cost, even though I opted for "private pay," more reasonable than quoted. Most important... the results have provided me with clearly improved vision and photos that show open eyes which reveal my zest for life and true alertness. If you have ever felt disappointed by photos that show a drooping eyelid, DO NOT WAIT! Go immediately to Dr. Rona Silkiss. As a future incoming district governor for Rotary International, I will have my photo taken hundreds of times in the next few years. I welcome every flash of the camera -- thanks to Dr. Silkiss!
Eyelid surgery. I had a retracted eyelid due to a thyroid.
Thank you for asking this important question. Ptosis or droopy eyelids may be caused by many things. Contact lens use over many years, trauma, age, family predisposition or neurological conditions. It is recommended that an individual be evaluated by an oculofacial plastic surgeon experienced in ptosis surgery. Once diagnosed the eyelid can be lifted through a procedure that tightens one of the two elevating muscles in the eyelid- the Levator or Mueller's muscle. This is an outpatient procedure performed with a local anesthetic. The recovery is short ( 7-10 days) of edema and bruising. Patients can perform their activities within one day- just no heavy lifting.
