Dr. Zeph and his staff are very compassionate! He takes his time with you, and never pushes you into doing other procedures. I highly recommend him!
There are many different dissolvable sutures available for your surgeon to use. I would try to find out what type of suture was used for your shoulder surgery that caused a problem. Your surgeon may want to avoid using that type of suture. I have not had any dissolvable sutures extrude following nasal surgery that I am aware of, and I think it is unlikely any will extrude after your surgery.
Each patient is different, of course, but the swelling after a facelift (including a neck lift) has generally diminished to the point where one can comfortably be out in public after 2 or 3 weeks. Some residual swelling, as well as cheek and neck numbness, resolve over a period of 4 to 5 months after the surgery.I don't know why your mother is having trouble turning her head after 4 months. She should follow up with her surgeon to determine the cause of that.
40 years old is not too young for a facelift if your aging changes will benefit from a lift. I have performed many facelifts, often mini-facelifts, in this age group. The results can be very natural and long lasting. Remember, however, that no one procedure solves everything in regards to aging. You may still need skin resurfacing procedures for wrinkling and photo-damage, and fillers for volume loss.
I truly believe that a patient sees the benefits of a facelift for many years, possibly even a lifetime, particularly if one looks at how he or she would have aged and appeared without the facelift. We reset the aging clock with a facelift, but we continue to age. Skin surface aging continues, facial volume changes progress, and gravity still affects our face and neck. Often filler injections and skin resurfacing are beneficial before another facelift is completed. Many patients may feel after 10-15 years that they would like a tightening or "tuck up" facelift done to improve their appearance, although they are still seeing some benefit from their initial lift.
The majority of swelling after a facelift resolves in the first 2-3 weeks, however there is some residual swelling that persists for 4 months or more. This swelling often occurs over the cheekbone (malar) area and beneath the chin ( submental). The swelling from fat injections is often in the 4 month range. Numbeness for 4 to 6 months after a facelift is typical and entirely normal.
