Dr. Weiss and his entire staff is amazing. If his background isn't impressive enough, his talents and down to earth demeanor will. I've had a few things done by Dr. Weiss and I keep coming back, because I trust his work. He takes his time to explain the procedure and will give you his full attention for any questions you may have. I highly recommend Dr. Weiss.
I had both upper and lower blepharoplasty surgery. I went to a few other ophthalmic surgeons besides Dr. Weiss for consultations. The other surgeons perform their procedures with general anesthesia. Dr Weiss performs his procedures with a local anesthetic, along with an oral sedative. I was a bit nervous because I have a low pain threshold, but I didn’t feel a thing, it was awesome! In fact, I didn’t even need any pain killers post healing. He removed my lower eyelid bags with a tiny incision made inside the lower eyelid, leaving no visible scar and barely any bruising. I also opted for the Fractional CO2 laser around my eyes to soften the wrinkles. Worth it! Don’t trust an eye surgery to any general cosmetic surgeon. Ophthalmic surgery is a specialty combining training in both ophthalmology and plastic surgery. I’m absolutely thrilled with my results! Dr Weiss is a detail-orientated, perfectionist and his bedside manner is fantastic. He goes the extra mile to answer all your questions, make you feel comfortable and at ease. His staff is easy going, kind and helpful.
My quick, painless and highly successful eyelid procedure is one of the best things I have done for myself, ever! Dr. Weiss has a beautiful and easy bedside manner, which calmed any concerns and his constant attention to my satisfaction was unique and enjoyable. I would recommend him and his charming staff to anyone who wants to experience the best of the best.
On 1-11-2018 I had bilateral upper and lower lids transconjunctival blepharoplasty surgery performed (upper and lower eye lids) by Dr. Richard Weiss, M.D. in Newport Beach and could not be happier with my results. Everything that I discussed with Dr. Weiss that I wanted done/corrected, he was able to deliver. I look 20 years younger (Yay for me!) and it’s all because of his skill and experience as board-certified cosmetic eye surgeon. I am so happy with the outcome, but I must share that the entire experience with Dr. Weiss and his office team was a terrific one. If you have any doubts whatsoever about the procedure including what outcomes are possible, you should book a consultation with him. I left my initial meeting (with him) feeling 100% confident in my decision to move forward and choosing HIM as my surgeon. I had been researching and talking about having this procedure for a couple of years now, but never felt confident in the couple of few physicians I spoke with. Once I met with Dr. Weiss, I knew he was the right doctor for me. As you can imagine, many are now asking me for his contact info. Thank you to Dr. Weiss (and team) for a fantastic result and caring experience. Janet B.
I had these procedures done 10 years ago by another doctor. It was time to have them done again. Hands down- I knew exactly who I wanted to perform the procedures- Dr. Weiss. I first saw Dr. Weiss in late July and knew I wanted to have the procedures done at Christmas time when I would have three weeks off of work. Scheduling the procedures proved to NOT be easy as I had neglected to plan in the Drs. holiday plans. ( Now I know to do that next time!) Once the staff realized my situation, they were amazing- even coming in on a scheduled day off to accommodate the procedures. ( Love these people!!!!) Dr. Weiss is unlike any other doctor I have visited. It was obvious during my consultations that he was visualizing his work. It was as if I could see his mind working. He asked questions listened to my answers and concerns, and then addressed them. Dr. Weiss examined my face and eyes, manipulated my skin and eyes and made recommendations. Again, I honestly believe as he was conducting the exam, he was truly picturing what he was going to do and I imagine he even saw the end result in his mind. Dr. Weiss is a master. His work is top notch. He takes pride what he does, thus his work reflects the attitude. Dr. Weiss played music and sang during surgery. When not singing, Dr. Weiss talked to me. He explained what he was doing and asked if I was in any pain. When he finished the eye surgery, he placed numbing cream on my face and took a short break while the numbing cream went to work. On his break, he played the piano. Loved it! This is a multi-gifted gentleman. He is a true professional. I am thrilled with the results of my procedures. I highly recommend you do your homework- and you'll end up scheduling your appointment with Dr. Weiss too.
Dr Weiss is an amazing surgeon who gave me an accurate idea of what to expect from my procedures i still have some wrinkles under my eyes but he mentioned before that that area would need a different procedure to get the best results overall i am very satisfied with him i would love to address my under eye wrinkles with him Lance Shioji
I was born with very droopy eyes. My entire life I always had people asking me " whats wrong? " Why are you sad?" when I put eyeliner on it would smudge all over and the fat packets above my eyelids even FELT heavy. The droopy eyelids caused shadowing around my eyes and i had to use TONS of concealer all of the time. I would get done up and after all my clothes and make up and hair , my eyes still made me look sad and tired. I was so frustrated. I finally made the decision to get surgery at age 35. Enough is enough I thought. I booked with Dr. Weiss , whom I was referred to by a family friend and everything went so smooth and perfect I have ZERO complaints about anything. The procedure itself felt like there was alot of pressure on my eyes (I was awake under a local) absolutely no pain , just a super weird and kinda scary pressure. I did alot of deep breathing and made it through with out any pain. My mom picked me up , and lead me to the car as I could not see very well , everything was fuzzy, and my face felt heavy and strange. I had ice packs on my eyes and went home to moms house and laid down with the ice packs . I took the prescribed pain meds and vitamin c and slept and chilled out for about 3 days. There was never any pain. I looked like I was beat up and had blue and yellow bruising on my face . It took a good week or so for the bruising to get lighter. I stayed at moms for 5 days and then went home and kept sunglasses on in front of the boyfriend. We went out to dinner once with sunglasses and i was able to do my normal house work. Every day I looked better and better. Now my eyes do not droop , there is no fat pads hanging down ontop of my eyelid and when I look in the mirror I have no complaints about my eyes. Friends and family say they hardly notice , which to me is a sign of a GREAT surgeon. As no one wants to look different or pulled back in any way. I notice the difference BIGTIME , I think my boyfriend does to but is polite and doesn’t want to say so. lol. I would recommend DR Weiss for this procedure, eyes are delicate and seem to be tricky so I would only go for an EXPERIENCED Dr on this one. No fancy young surgeons out of school with a hip trendy office. I would only trust someone with 20 years experience
I went to him for cosmetic eyelid surgery and he found a small eyelid tumor that I didn't even know I had. He refused to do the cosmetic stuff until after he had repaired my eyelid and removed the tumor with a Moh's. After I was tumor free he took care of the appearance. I was very scared but he made me feel super comfortable and so his staff was also great. He even got on a video call to answer some more questions. I've never had any doctor so available to explain things to me. And the result was amazing. I look so refreshed.
The operation was a complete success and the care I received during and even after the operation was amazing. No surprises and everything went according to what he predicted.
Worst Experience ever. I had an upperlid surgery with Dr, Richard Weiss (ophthalmologist) who did not use traditional incision methods (a scalpel like plastic surgeons do) instead, Dr Weiss literally burns the skin open using a catheterizer. He claims that this technique stops the bleeding. Yes, it stops the bleeding during the surgery, but it is a third degree burn and that part of my eyelid looks melted, like burn victims get. (plasticy, no skin like look) I also gave me very thick hypertrophic scars right away. I chose this doctor based on heavy advertising along with "positive reviews" and the pictures and testimonials he posts everywhere. I had some reservations when I watched his own website video demo where he misses the first attempt and re- opens this man's eyelid after the closure was done, cuts him again, and re-stiches that patient yet again. somehow, I went ahead and I had my surgery on November 22. I had my stiches removed November 29. Three days later, on Saturday,- I woke up and saw that both of my eyelids had separated at the incision!! (This is called "dehiscence") Yes, I could see the pink/white skin/ fat under, and a yellow thick substance on the edges, (I'll post a picture of this) I was in panic. I called the Dr Weiss "call center" many- times to have him paged. He never returned the calls. Instead, in the afternoon, his receptionist (who also doubles as a medical assistant during surgery) called me back and said, "Sorry, but the doctor is out of town. She told me to call "Gavin Eye institute" I called. The placed was closed, it was Saturday. . Later, she called me and told me to get help at an emergency at a hospital!! (in Santa Ana/City of Orange. I did. After 6 hours waiting in the crowded, emergency room lobby,I was interviewed by an older general doctor, who asked me who my eye doctor was who did that. When I told him it was Dr. Weiss, he mentioned that he knew who Dr Weiss was as he treats his patients when they are sent here. (UCI - City of Orange) This senior doctor paged yet another "more junior doctor" as he felt that my case was not "life threatening" I waited 2 more hours in the parking lot until night time, as the emergency room was too full) The junior doctor showed up, and he openly told me he was only an "intern", practicing general medicine and that he had never done a repair on a blepharoplasty before... I started crying. It was late at night, dark, I had exposed open eyelids- and I was very scared, I did not know what to do, who to ask help from, I felt I had to let this practicing intern help me in any way possible. So, I let him. I went home around midnight, and took a sleeping pill. On Sunday morning I woke up and noticed that the stiches (the intern placed on my eyelids) come undone during the night! (I called Dr Weiss again!! No answer. I calmly took medical tape and held the skin together) Dr Weiss finally called me that Sunday in the afternoon. I told him he was negligent and as a doctor, that he should have disclosed that he does not have medical back up at all, and that I would be on my own if I needed medical care. He apologized profusely and promised me to rectify his process. But he also told me that he would be on vacation, yet another week, but that he would try to find me a doctor that I can go to on Monday. No. He never gave me a doctors name or a phone number as he promised) Dr Weiss also asked me to stop taking cellphone pictures of my eyes, because he said: the pictures "were detrimental to my eyelids" ( yeah...) At that point, I knew I had to go to a Certified plastic surgeon that Monday. (At my own cost) and I did. (I'll post my invoice) The plastic surgeon did not have any openings for me that day, but I begged and he took me in. The plastic surgeon told me that there is nothing that he (or anybody) could do now, for 6-12 months. He confirmed that my olive type skin was burnt by not using a scalpel, that I had experienced dehiscence, that my wound "healed while open" , forming hypertrophic scars, that the incision lines were way off from my natural crease) And that The lack of prompt medical attention when the incisions opened, caused the complications I did visit Dr Weiss' office when he returned from his vacation. Just to show him what he has done cosmetically and medically. He examined me and said, "The results are beautiful!" I asked him why is my incision on my left eye, half an inch above my natural crease ?!!! (yes! 1/2 an inch off!!) He responded: "You signed a 5-page legal release- I do not guarantee any results" h not saying. “You will be fine. It will get better....” I asked Dr Weiss one more question: How will you fix this? He replied this: "I can offer you a free Botox".(I did not accept his absurd offer) I know time may heal my scars. But emotionally, I'm in pain , I literally have nightmares at night, and during the day, when I look in the mirror, I get very sad. I had to change my hairstyle to cover my eyes and I don't get too close to people as they can see my scars even with my eyes wide open
I see that you had the surgery through the skin. Wait at least a month to evaluate the results of your surgery. If it is still a little low, it can be fine tuned with a simple office procedure from behind the eyelid, without needing another skin incision. Looks good so far. Good luck.
Usually, true ptosis must be corrected with a surgical procedure. However, there is a simple way for you to tell if exercises might work for you. Take a good picture first, then try some exercises and do them regularly for several months. Then take another picture. If there is no improvement, you've proven to yourself that exercise doesn't work. Then if the ptosis still bugs you, look for an experienced oculoplastic surgeon.
Patients commonly have the comment that their appearance varies at different times during the day, monthly, or sometimes for no apparent reason. Most of the time the varying appearance of the upper lids is due to varying eyebrow position. If that seems to be the case, I often either inject Botox to the forehead about a week before surgery, or at the time of surgery inject local anesthesia to the forehead to negate the effect of forehead muscle contraction causing variable eyebrow position. I also feel strongly that this procedure is most accurately performed under local anesthesia, which enables me to sit the patient up during surgery to take into account the effect of gravity and an upright posture - which greatly contributes to the best results.
I assume you mean is it possible to widen horizontally the palpebral aperture (the opening between the eyelids.) This can be performed by means of an internal canthoplasty, with a small incision in the upper lids and approaching the lateral cantonal tendon for tightening through a short subcutaneous tunnel. Alternatively, it can be done directly through an small incision just outside the lateral canthus, which heals very nicely. Both techniques involve tightening, shortening or redirecting the lateral cantonal tendon without disrupting the actual lateral canthus, which results in a subtle lengthening, or widening, of the palpebral aperture.
It looks as if you may have a few suture cysts, which are formed when epithelial cells migrate down the tunnel made by the passage of the suture material. They are common and if they don't resolve by themselves can usually easily be treated - either by "de-roofing" them or opening the tunnel manually 9or as I do, with the CO2 laser), or by injecting them in some cases with a small amount of steroid. True keloids have not been reported in the thin skin of the eyelid. Be assured that you should do fine eventually.
