CO2 Laser

CO2 for scar resurfacing

I had a cyst/scar tissue lump removed/biopsied from my forehead in January 2018. The lump unfortunately immediately grew back, and rather than surgically removing it a second time, my dermatologist did two separate cortisone injections to break it up. That worked for the lump, but left an indented scar on my forehead. I had a second (cystic acne) scar near the surgical scar. I had both resurfaced with CO2 laser and the surgical scar injected with filler on July 5/18. This is to document the healing process. Updated on 6 Jul 2018: It wept quite a bit overnight, but isn’t burning or sore at all today. Washed with cetaphil in the shower and used a vinegar wash afterwards. I’ll be covering the spot today with a bandage my derm gave me and a hat because we’ll be outdoors in the sun all day. Updated on 7 Jul 2018: No pain at all and no weeping overnight. There was some exudate on the bandages wore all day yesterday, but not much. I am continuing with cetaphil and a vinegar rinse and using fucidin ointment. I think the skin is already starting to slough off a bit. Updated on 8 Jul 2018: The skin is starting to peel off more now. I’m Not sure how much I should help that along, so for now I’m not doing anything except washing with cetaphil and a gentle wipe with the vinegar wash. I’ll be putting on more fucidin and a bandage again for the day, since we will again be outdoors most of the day and I don’t want my hat to rub on it. Updated on 9 Jul 2018: The majority of the skin in the treatment area sloughed off today in the shower. I feel like it’s looking really good today. The bruising from the filler in the scar is going away now too, so I’m starting to get an idea of how it’ll look. I’m very pleased with the process so far. I think I’ll need to do at least one more CO2 treatment with it to make it “perfect” (as it can be, I know scars are there permanently) and I think I may ask how much it is do go across my entire forehead next time. I’ve healed from this so much better and faster than I expected. Updated on 10 Jul 2018: Skin seems to be completely peeled. Still quite pink and maybe still a little edema and brushing. Yesterday evening it got a bit itchy, but a vinegar wash seemed to help that. I’m going to continue with applying the fucidin for today. Updated on 13 Jul 2018: Missed a couple days, but it pretty much looks the same now. Just slightly pink, which can be covered with make up. I think the peeling is completely done now. It is a bit itchy as it’s healing under my skin, so I’m trying not to scratch it. I’ve switched from antibiotic ointment to vitamin E cream. I’m pretty happy over all. I’m not sure how much of the difference is from the laser and how much is from the filler. I will do the laser again though. Updated on 26 Jul 2018: Three weeks post. Still slightly pink. When my skin is dehydrated, I can see the grid marks still. The filler doesn’t seem to be in the right place and is causing a bit of a bump, which puts me back at square 1, since the whole reason I have a scar was to get rid of a bump. I see my dermatologist tomorrow, so I’ll find out what can be done about that. I can definitely see a difference in the before and after now, and I’m happy with the way the CO2 worked. I almost wish we had only done that and no filler. I’ll be asking about a second CO2 treatment, but foregoing the filler this time. I might see about going further across my forehead. Updated on 7 Nov 2018: Don’t mind the spot above the scar. I’m still dealing with some healing acne. It didn’t change as much as I’d hoped. I am actually going for a second round on November 8th, across my whole forehead this time to see how much more I can even it out. If that doesn’t work, I’ll be looking into scar revision surgery. I’m not going to get a filler put in this time. The filler seems to have not settled into the right spot and has made a hard lump, which is essentially why I even have a scar in the first place...because I had a hard lump removed. I’ll be starting a new post to detail the recovery on round two. Updated on 10 Nov 2018: This is my second treatment. I have a scar on my forehead from a cyst removal and I’m attempting to improve the appearance of it. My first CO2 was a spot treatment in July, along with a bit of filler. This time I went with a full forehead treatment, with no filler. I’ll be documenting the healing process.
