AS one of the first centers to use the Intralase and provide some of the early data there is not question that it is a safer, more precise, more accurate way to do Lasik. Simply it uses a Femto Second Laser to create the flap vs. a blade in traditional Lasik. Almost all studies have shown increased safety, less dry eye, more accurate flap thickness with less variability, and less enhancements.
Depending on type of correction final visual results may take 3 months to achieve. Use lots of non preserved lubricating drops as this will help.
Both Lasik and PRK can exacerbate the dry eye symptoms for several months after surgery. If the preop exam indicates severe dry eye with corneal changes you may be better off with a refractive lens implant. Certainly starting Restasis preop is indicated.
THe healing process for PRK is longer than LASIK, so it is not unusual for the vision to be worse , certainly for the first few weeks. Depending on the intial prescription it could take up to 3-6 months to become stable.
The maximum myopic treatment is an 8.0mm Optical Zone, but this has to be weighed against extra corneal tissue removed. Transient light sensitivity at 6 weeks can be seen, more related to Femtosecond laser to create the flap, it responds well to short course of anti inflammatory drops. The glare at night and night vision issues are probably related to the small refractive error that is still present, if still there at three months it should respond very well to enhancement and resolve the night vision issues.
