After my first pregnancy, my breasts lost their shape, they sagged and grew from a 34C size to a 38DD size. I couldn't look at myself any longer and felt very self conscious when interacting with doctors and even showing myself to my husband. Also, the pain in my back was pretty bad by the time I decided to do something about it. Best decision I have ever made.
8 years ago I had a single mastectomy due to breast cancer. I was tired of wearing the prosthetic and ugly bras. I wanted to feel more feminine again. I had put off this surgery for so long as I was busy taking care of other family members. I finally said it was time for me and was given a referral to Dr. O'Grady by my family physician. My wonderful journey began.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. I had surgery which removed most of my right breast followed by Chemo and Radiation. I was referred to Dr. Kevin O'Grady by my Oncologist to discuss the possibility of reconstruction of my right breast. At our first meeting I was nervous and very self conscious, but Dr O'Grady was very professional and calm as he described each option to me. All I asked was to make both breasts even in size and shape. He put me at ease and I was able to decide to go ahead and have a tissue expander inserted into my right breast. The months following the surgery, I had injections into the expander to stretch the skin with the hope to replace the expander with an implant. Dr. O'Grady warned me every visit that radiated skin might have a difficult time to heal. Unfortunately, this came true and the expander had to be removed. Dr O'Grady gave me plenty of time to heal, mentally and physically and then offered to do a Latissimus Dorsi Flap, where he take a flap from my Lat muscle with the skin attached and moves it to the front over an implant. This was a big surgery for me, but at no time did I feel rushed by Dr O'Grady in my decision. He told me I would have to stay in the hospital at least one day and need six weeks to recover. So, on November 5th, 2014 we did the surgery with his wonderful team. The results were amazing!! I came home after one day with two drains, which are no problem; more of a nuisance. They were removed within two weeks. There is a large scar on my back, as well as on my breast and in my armpit. They have healed beautifully and have given me no problems. I feel better physically and the new breast is almost the same size and shape as my other breast. Just what I asked for.
I turned 40 in February and am very committed to exercising regularly and eating well. But despite my healthy lifestyle I was always uncomfortable with the way my stomach looked (especially after having 2 kids). I met with 3 plastic surgeons and Dr O'Grady stood out. He was honest and straightforward, knowledgeable and kind and I trusted him immediately. In fact, I didn't do any background research before I booked my procedure with him because of how confident I felt at our consultations. He didn't overpromise and I joke with him every time I see him that he acts like he surprised himself in how great a job he did. After day 4 when I had the courage to look at my abdomen, I exhaled and knew my life had changed. This past summer was incredible for me... not having to run for a cover up to hide my stomach every time I was in a bathing suit. Feeling confident every single day, and no matter what kind of night I have had, waking up every morning to a flat stomach is an incredible feeling and I would recommend Dr O'Grady to everyone. Thank you Dr for making this experience so positive. You were amazing every step of the way!
Deciding Deciding to have breast reduction surgery takes years. If you're reading this because you're looking for a great surgeon to perform your breast reduction surgery then you know what I mean. For so many years my back hunched over, my bras dug into my skin, and my clothes didn't fit. I was embarrassed by unwanted attention. I really wanted breast reduction, but fear made me put it off for far too long. And then finally I decided. But then what? Turns out, finding a surgeon that you really like and that can perform an OHIP-covered breast reduction (meaning in a hospital instead of in a clinic) is difficult. I had met with a surgeon once and really disliked him. A referral from my family doctor to a different surgeon ended up being a horrible and demoralizing experience. A google search was overwhelming. A few fruitless phone calls later and I was feeling defeated. Then a very kind woman who once worked for Dr. O'Grady suggested I go see him, and told me that he does excellent work. He sure does, but more on that in a bit. Consultation and Surgery From my first phone call to Dr. O'Grady's office my experience changed. His receptionist was refreshingly happy to help. At my consultation Dr. O'Grady was kind, helpful, and had a relaxed, unhurried demeanor that put me completely at ease. He genuinely welcomed my questions. Dr. O'Grady uses the "lollipop" technique, which requires less cutting than the traditional "anchor", and creates a more desirable shape. I learned that he wouldn't need to use any drains and that my stitches would all be dissolvable. I left that day feeling excited and confident in his ability. Our pre-op appointment was more of the same: friendly staff, lots of helpful information, and confirmation in my mind that I was in the best of hands. In the OR on the day of my surgery, Dr. O'Grady and I again discussed what size I was hoping to be and then a very lovely anesthesiologist used laughing gas to put me gently to sleep. I remember feeling very relaxed and safe. Recovery When I woke up? Elation and relief as soon as I looked down at my chest!!! The nurses made sure that I wasn't in any pain and then I went home a few hours later. The next day my husband helped me remove my gauze. We were both shocked at how great my breasts looked already. They were swollen but their shape was beautiful and my nipples were higher than they'd been since high school. My results have continued to improve since then. The swelling has gone down and my breasts are a perfect size. My shoulders and back feel better. I still get a thrill whenever I see myself in a mirror. I've had two post-op appointments with Dr. O'Grady, and will have a few more. When I see him he examines my incisions (everything looks great!), asks me if I'm having pain (I'm not!), and whether I'm pleased with my results (SO HAPPY!!!!). Then I thank him and thank him. How can I ever thank him enough? Outcome This surgeon has the talent, skill, and experience to create the results you're hoping for. He's got the staff and bedside manner to make the entire process a positive experience. I feel like a new person thanks to him. If you’ve been suffering for years and want breast reduction surgery, please don't hesitate any longer. The hardest part is deciding. Then call Dr. O’Grady; the rest will be a breeze.
Not personable at all don't waste ur time he's very rude and acts like hes the only dr that performs breast reduction I don't recommend him to anyone and if you have low self-esteem or body weight issues I would stay away from this doctor
I was lucky enough to have Dr. Ogrady perform two procedures on me; a breast reduction and tummy tuck. After a drastic weight loss and a hysterectomy, parts of my body were left with flabby droopy skin. Dr. O Grady was able to remove the excess skin and tighten every thing up. I look better at age 46 then I did in my 30's. Dr. O Grady is caring and a perfectionist in his work which is reassuring. He is always professional and it is very easy to get a hold of through his office. I will forever be great full
Hi Rummblestrips:Thanks for the question. In examining your photos, I see a number of things. First, is the jowls. Second is the loss of volume of your face. Third, the bags underneath your eyes. Fourth, the loss of cheek prominence or your "cheekbones" and lastly, the appearance of your neck muscles. In my opinion, I wouldn't rule anything out at this point. It depends how invasive you would like to get and how much you want to spend, quite frankly.Less invasive procedures might include fillers or fatto help mask the jowls, add volume to reflate your cheekbones and help with your lower eyelids. Fillers are more predictable, but do not last as long as fat grafting. Definitive, longer lasting solutions do include a facelift with neck tightening and lower eyelid work, regardless of your age.Kindly speak with a Plastic Surgeon near you about all of your options. They may include a combination of both surgical and non-surgical options. Make sure you are comfortable with whomever you choose!Best wishes.
Hi Shannonlemm:Thanks for the question. From what I can gather, it seems you have a small amount of excess fat under your chin. Unfortunately, none of the pictures really shows it well, other than the first one which shows it a bit.If it is indeed a bit of fat on top of the platysmal muscle (the muscle men use to tighten their neck when they shave), then Smartlipo may be a great procedure for you, in my opinion. It can be done through a small 1/4" hole under the chin to remove the fat. The laser part of the Smartlipo may cause the skin to contract about 10-15% at most, which may be enough for you as you appear to be quite youthful. As with anything, please contact a Plastic Surgeon near you who does Smartlipo and who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons for a full assessment.Best wishes
Hello and thanks for your question.Only a complete history and full physical examination will be able to tell if you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck, not just pictures alone. Having said this, however, a tummy tuck may be a good operation for you.It is very important that you reach your ideal weight in a stable fashion and more importantly, be able to maintain it for a very long time. Otherwise you will gain weight and your long-term result will not be as good.It is also very important to understand why you have had several abdominal surgeries and the problems you have had with infected or rejected mesh. The location of the surgical scars is also a consideration as they may affect the blood supply to your abdomen. Poor blood supply can lead to wound healing problems - something you definitely don't want, especially with abdominal wall mesh. You will also have to consider your tattoos, as they will almost certainly be affected by a tummy tuck.It is best to meet with more than one Plastic Surgeon in your general area. If you travel out of town, it may be best to obtain your records from your mesh surgery and copies of any recent abdominal wall imaging when you attend your appointment.I hope this has been helpful and best wishes.
Hello and Thanks for the excellent question. In my experience, bags under the eyes are a result of three things. First, bulging fat. Second, skin discolouration. Third, thinner skin and the appearance of blood vessels.Fillers can definitely help with smoothing the transition from bulging fat to the remaining skin. Fillers can also help with shadowing that can happen as a result of the bulging fat. In fact, they can mask the problem for years when properly applied. As a result, they can delay the need for surgery for years.Skin discolouration or pigmentation can often be helped with laser treatments or lightening creams. Fillers cannot help with this. There is little that can be done for visible blood vessels and thin skin, other than makeup. As always, be sure to choose a Plastic Surgeon with plenty of experience in this area of the body before embarking on filler treatment. Once the fillers have plateaued, you can then have a discussion about surgery when the time is right for you.Best wishes.
Hello and thanks for the question.No. OHIP will not cover liposuction for any reason. Besides, liposuction is not a means of weight loss - it is used to sculpt the body in areas where diet and exercise can no longer make a difference. It sounds like your main issue may be weight gain and it may make your Crohn's worse. Speak to your GP about this. A thought may be a referral to a general surgeon for a gastric bypass surgery to help with your weight. With weight loss, you may not require liposuction.Hope this helps and best of luck!
