All the radiofrequency lasers have been recommended by FDA against using the terms laser "vaginal rejuvenation" since the last year.  There is a reason for this change.  There are a lot of "gimmick wands" I call them that take thousands of dollars of your money and don't do much for "tightening" the vagina.  I believe they are a waste of money for that purpose.

In order to take care of reconstruction and vaginal support including repairing the "fascia" and "muscle" which is the strength of the vagina and the vaginal mucosa is repaired and excess removed in order to really tighten the vagina to pre-birth girth.

Surgery with a board certified gynecologist who specializes in vaginoplasty such as the surgeons of the laser vaginal rejuvenation institute is the one of the best ways to go.  The laser we use is a "cutting" and "coagulation" laser that helps reduce blood loss and more precise cuts to reconstruct the area.

Our goal is for you to look and feel 18 years old again, plain and simple.  It is worth a 2 hour surgery and exciting to see the women who have done this procedure react to their results even years later!

Please understand that there are tons of nerve bundles and blood supply around the clitoris.  Think of the clitoris as the female version of the penis, if we were to move a penis it would be extremely difficult and likely near impossible due to blood supply and innervation of the penis.  Knowing that, you can understand that moving the clitoris would not be a good idea.  

That being said, if you have a clitoral hood enlargement and that is affecting your appearance or bothering you, you may get a clitoral hood reduction and that may help appearance if that is a concern.  The jury is out whether that will help stimulation.

Also, perineoplasty and/or vaginoplasty may "tighten" the internal vagina and make the external appearance more "taut," which may improve appearance, but we cannot count on it helping sexual function either.

As a first line, I would seek help from a physician like myself, that can evaluate you and then help determine if sexual therapy vs. surgical therapy or both would help with your concerns.

Ahh, you would like a revision of the external vagina after childbirth.  We gynecologic plastic surgery specialists can do this anytime.  Please note that you can see before and afters of my patients.




We can do as little as taking out the excess hymen, vs. doing that and "tightening" inside the vagina and/or doing a procedure that makes all the external genitalia more "taut" original appearance.

The laser we use is a great cutting tool due to its ability to precise/clean, less blood incisions with less thermal damage than other "cutting/cautery" instruments.

The confusion is the difference between cosmetic gynecologic surgeons and "laser" machines that are what I call "wands" which portray that they will do "tightening" and other helpful uses with several applications.  Well the difference between these lasers and true vaginal rejuvenation is tremendous!

As a LVR surgeon we use laser to cut.  No wands.  We are reconstructing the vaginal canal and perineum and this cannot be matched by laser "wands."


As such, patients are tremendously satisfied and outcomes are great!

Can a knife do the same thing during surgery, sure.  However when you cut with a knife there is more blood loss and cautery/burning being done to adjacent tissue.  Whereas we that use the cutting laser try to minimize these untoward effects.

Hi Catherine,

I would recommend you come in for a consult or a phone consult.  But I would not think a clitoral hood reduction would solve your problem.  I am more inclined to recommend a perineoplasty with or without a laser vaginal rejuvenation procedure depending if you would like to tighten the vagina internally.  Also this would make your external appearance more "taut" and that is what it seems like you are trying to achieve.  Please understand that it is important to get a complete history from you and exam to properly evaluate to assure the correct procedure is done.
