When I met Doctor Rockwell I was coming to her after I had a major complication with the initial double mastectomy that I had done in Montreal. I had attempted to do a one step surgery that rendered me having to start again from absolutely nothing. Since my surgery was just preventative (my family has a very aggressive history with the BRCA2 gene) I was very demoralized that I was now left with no breast on my left side and I had not too many answers and also was feeling uneasy with the whole process. Dr. Rockwell had come highly recommended so my family Doctor sent over a referral. Once I had my consultation, I was shocked to hear that this would take me on another two year journey of many small procedures leading to an expander and then to the final implant. Dr. Rockwell could see my shock and reassured me to be patient and to trust her. Well I certainly did and I can proudly say I would trust her with my life or any of my loved ones. She treated me with the patience, empathy and care that any woman going through this at any stage would require. She was beyond competent in her craft, patient, honest and forthcoming. She was so meticulous especially with revolutionary fat grafting that my results were very pleasing. There was never any doubt, mystery or confusion. Even during the pandemic, she and her amazing assistant Sarah were so diligent in booking me in for expansions, getting my paperwork done and getting me booked in for surgery. Every surgery I had went better than I would have hoped (I was very resistant and negative in the beginning but she kept proving me wrong) and the results were better than I ever expected. After my last surgery - the replacement of the expander to the final implant, she wrote me personal care instructions and sent me home with a personalized note that made me feel like we were on this journey together - which we were and I could not have picked a better surgeon to be on this journey with me. All in all I would give Dr. Rockwell 100 stars if I could because she was amazing, positive, skilled and knowledgeable every step of the way and if I had to do it all again I would choose her every time! Amazing woman and amazing surgeon!

Hey all, 2 years ago I had a tuberous breast correction without implant and I was on this site religiously. I never posted photos because I'm pretty tattooed and it's really hard to edit them out and have the photos still be helpful. I had 5 consults with 5 surgeons over 2 years and none of it felt right. I was told repeatedly that I NEEDED an implant to "fix" my "deformity". And I saw SO many pictures of tuberous corrections that were not great, and surgeons still tried to convince me that these double bubble, crooked nipple, scarred, revised options were absolutely an improvement to what I had.For the record, I also saw many that were beautiful- all of whom started off with more tissue or less construction. So I was feeling like I was running the risk of forking out 20k, and still being unhappy with the result. 
This kind of caused me to rethink my plan- I started researching tuberous breast corrections without implants- leeeeet me tell you they are not common. It was so friggen hard to find photos of them.
So anyway now I'm back to throw up a photo. Because I think it's important. 
At the time of the surgery I was 28, I paid 5k (total- to put the cost in perspective I would have shelled out 20-25k with an implant) I was awake for surgery and back to work after 4 days. The next day I went for a gentle 5k walk along the river. Man, I BUSSED home from surgery, stopped for a latte, started running again at 12 weeks. I m VERY PLEASED with my outcome. I am stoked I didn't get an implant. 
I stand 5'8", 150lbs, athletic, pre-op I could not fill a 32A. Now I am a full 32B.

When I met Dr Rockwell a month ago (in mid-April 2016), it was with the reviews of her on RateMd fresh in my mind. I expected her to criticize me due to my weight. Instead, I found a consummate professional - skilled surgeon - who outlined the procedure and what to expect down to the finest detail.

I never felt uncomfortable. I never felt judged.

I don't seek out a surgeon for their bedside manner: I seek them out for their skill and track record. She has exceptional skill, that I already know. Her track record is also exemplary.
If I wanted to talk about my feelings and expect to be coddled, I'd indulge in psychiatric sessions.

I waited many years to mention my persistent pain and suffering to my Family Physician. When I finally did in December 2015, I was embarrassed to disclose it. I like to think of myself as superhuman, and pain/suffering felt like an admission of weakness. For years I've been in massage therapy to combat the pinched nerves and tight muscles in my neck and back. I simply reached the end of my rope. Don't wait as long as I did: if this is your reality - that you can't sleep through the pain because of the size of your breasts, speak up. Your FP is there to help and guide you to a professional who will help. I had the luxury of choosing which Plastic Surgeon I wished to see. Oddly enough, my appointment was set quickly and my surgery even quicker.

I am six days away from the procedure and admit to feeling a fair degree of anxiety about general anesthetic and the recovery period. I'm armed with several information sheets - what to do, what not to do, how best to heal, etc. all supplied by Dr Rockwell's office. Still, the internet is chalk full of worse case outcomes and these are hard to dismiss when you are searching information on what to "really" expect. I'm thankful to have found realself.com.

I've been under general anesthesia several times before and never worried: now I'm thinking that since it went well all those other times, my clock is up for all things continuing to go well. I know it is silly. I know this. Still, the thoughts are there.

The expectation is that I'll be off work for 14days. I suspect I'll go stir crazy during that time. A plethora of people counsel me to just take it easy... really easy... that it takes the wind out of your sails and the best outcome will come from diligent self-care. Can't argue with that. :)

I wish to thank everyone who shares their experiences with users of this site. It really is valuable information to have.

I will keep the community abreast (no pun intended) of events as they progress on my journey towards healthier living, w/bilateral reduction mammoplasty and mastopexy being a first step in that direction.

(I could not estimate the cost, as thankfully in Ontario the procedure will be covered by our provincial health plan).
