Excited that I just got my approval through Aetna, did not think I would get approved because my BMI is only 38 and only co-morbidity I have is high cholesterol. I am super excited and can't wait until December 13 ,2016. Would have been sooner but I have school and that was the latest date I could schedule in December since my Dr. leaves town for the holidays. I am 230lbs. 5' 5". So happy to finally be able to get the weight off for good this time. I had a tummy tuck a few years back which only improved my shape, and I looked really good until the pounds started to come back on a couple years ago. Been taking all kinds of diet pills for years and as I get older they just don't seem to help at all anymore. Getting my approval is the best thing that could happen to me. Updated on 24 Dec 2016: So had to delay surgery 1 week to Dec. 20, 2016. I was so nervous, but too excited. My first night after surgery was hell!! I was in a lot of pain!! But it got better when I decided to start walking. I hear a lot of sleeve patients say post op, that they had a lot of gas pain, so I made it a point to fight through and walk the halls of the hospital. I only did it 2 times per day and I did not have any gas pain. Today is day 4, Dec. 24, 2016 Christmas Eve, and I feel pretty good. Only problem is when I have to cough, it hurts like heck, even using a pillow to splint. Oh and the clear liquid diet is getting old. I was only required to drink protein shakes for a week prior to surgery, and clear liquids for one day pre op and have now have 10 more days to go of nothing but clear liquids. UGHH!! But I bought a bunch of different flavors and brands of chicken and beef broth, and I have found that Aldi's has a Fit and Active low sodium organic beef broth that taste like you are eating steak!!!! I definitely have to go buy more of this!! My doctor told me not to weigh myself the first week, because they put so much air in your stomach that you actually weigh more initially. But when I got on the scale today, I weigh less than I have in over 1 year!! How is this possible!! On the night of surgery I was thinking to myself why did you do this to yourself, because I was in soooo much pain, but on only day 4 post surgery I am super glad I did it and know I have made a good choice!! My doctors and hospital staff were all so nice, the only problem was that some of the staff did not realize how patients who have just had abdominal surgery have extremely sensitive stomachs, and their perfumes were highly obnoxious! That is my only complaint. I would recommend this surgery to anyone and everyone who asks! I will be posting before and after pictures at a later date!! Updated on 31 Mar 2017: Just a quick update! So today is 3/31/17, I am 3 months and a lil over a week post surgery. I am 5'7", and I started at 238 lbs and am now 188 lbs. So far I have lost a whopping 50 lbs!!! I am so please with my body. I have no loose skin so far and hopefully, the loose skin, if it does happen, will be very minimal. At this point I would not care if I never lost another pound. My cholesterol is much better, no more back, knee, and ankle pain, no more waking up with headaches and chest pain. My weight looks proportional to my height, although the doctors little chart says a person who is 5'7" should be around 159 lbs. Getting VSG was one of the best decisions I would have ever made!!! No regrets!!! I am waiting until my birthday to do my big reveal! I have not posted one single picture of me on social media since around July of 2016. My birthday is May 26, (of course by then I will be much smaller) so that will be my birthday reveal, I can't wait for everyone to see the new me!!!
