I began my Accutane journey not too long ago. Roughly three weeks ago, and I began to notice the symptoms of dry skin and dry lips immediately. Which I don't mind because it reassures me that the medication is working. The frustrating part is the fact that I am breaking out ridiculously. I bought a light moisturizer and face wash by Cetaphil, and I drink LOTS OF WATER. Literally between 5-8 bottles a day. I read a lot of reviews just to remind myself that the first couple of months is the hardest part. So I am hoping that all of this is worth it! Lastly my prescriber only prescribed me a 15 day quantity when its suppose to last me a month! Her explanation was that she wanted me to take one pill a day (but the medication label says otherwise, one by mouth twice a day!) and wanted to see how I would react to the medication. This was not described during the time of my last dermatologist visit, and because of the program guidelines they were unable to reissue the remaining of the 15 days quantity. Which would have carried over until my next dermatologist visit. I will be going 15 days without taking the medication and I doubt that they would provide me with the remaining pills that are prescribed to me. So I am not a happy camper, and I am taking hair, skin, and nail pills that contains biotins which sometimes causes your skin to break out. I am hoping that the 15 day gap does not effect anything, and I began taking hot yoga classes as well! Even when I know that hot yoga helps detoxify your body, and open your pores, It also make you sweat. ALOT! I'm just very upset about about the 15 day gap and I am very anal about my skin, which I assume everyone else is who is taking the medication. I just want everything to go accordingly, I have had enough of my skin. I've tried various medications, and always wanted to try Accutane, and I've been denied every time. The issues involving my skin would have been taken care of a long time ago if my dermatologist at the time would have prescribed me this medication a long time ago. I'm really hoping that this medication works, and that I do not become discourage throughout my journey. I will probably post my pictures when I actually see a lot of improvement, right now I see a lot of inflammation and new acne every other day. :-( Updated on 17 Apr 2015: As mentioned in my previous review, I was having some complications with starting my Accutane prescription as directed. The issues concerning my "procedure" was pertaining to the amount of capsules that my prescriber issued the pharmacy. Even when I called my prescriber and asked them to reissue the remaining capsules, the pharmacy wouldn't allow it, only if I retook the comprehension exam. The issue with that is you can only take that exam every month after your pregnancy test. SO long story short ( those who read my previous review read my long venting story) I am STARTING over, and this time with the full 60 capsules that would last me until my next doctors visit. I obviously do not have any updates as far as my skin progress goes, but I have decided to upload a few pictures that I have recently taken. As I look through my previous photos, I can't help but wonder how would my progress be so far if I had continued. However I will try and look on the brighter side and hope that everything goes smoothly from this day forward. I am uploading pictures that I took when I first began the medication and the effects it had on my skin. As I compare my recent pictures it seems as though my skin looks a lot better now. However I've been constantly picking at my skin (I know that I shouldn't be) and the area that the acne is effecting the most is underneath my chin, the sides of my face and sides of my chin. So hopefully in a couple of weeks to come I can upload some promising pictures. Probably after taking a full month worth of the medication! Updated on 26 May 2015: So far I am 10 days into my two month treatment. The first month, as stated from others, is THEE worst! I began to form zits, and acne underneath my chin 10x more then what I was use to. They were such an abnormal size and very painful. They looked more like huge cyst acne that developed, and there were many of them. So I was a bit aggravated for the most part, and very impatient with my progress. I need to work on not picking at my skin, that is a very bad habit of mine. I am waiting until the 20th day of my two month treatment to see how everything is looking. I decided to post some pictures of my progress so far. The doctor has lowered my dosage to 60mg, I am hoping by my next visit they will up the dosage back to 80mg. I have gained some weight, so hopefully that makes a difference. I'm not too sure about my progress, but I am still hopeful. Waiting until my 3month treatment can begin! Updated on 4 Aug 2015: SOOO I am finally 11 days into my fourth month! I still get an occasional breakout here and there (such as right now, in-between my eyebrows, and one on the side of the temple -_-).. HOWEVER its nothing like before! When reading the medications disclosure, and it states "your acne may get worst before it gets better" SO TRUE! But it is definitely worth trying the pill. I have read a lot of reviews were people have said after the fourth month you will practically see no more pimples, I believe them. I have taken some photos during my first days within the fourth month so I guess its considered my third month success photos. Please listen to your dermatologist when they tell you to wear sun screen! Its really for your own good, and that goes for any skin type. This medication turns your skin into a sponge for light. Literally absorbing any sun ray thats out, even on a rainy day! So wear sunscreen 24/7. Also keep handy some form of lip balm, preferably medicated because by the fourth month the dryness of the lips is ongoing. I literally reapply lip balm every 10mins. I can't wait to share my end of the fourth month review, it feels so good to wash my face and feel nothing but smoothness. This pill is pure magic!
