I still have to have my surgery with Doctor Dunaway but so far i can just say that he has been very calming and reassuring. You might ask why i'm writing a review at this stage. I'm writing this review to thank him given that he took the time to write me his opinion on a surgery i'm going to have before the surgery with him regardless he was on holiday
Dr. Dunaway is a very experienced surgeon, and this showed during treatment. I had custom PEEK jaw implants last year (Dr. Dunaway is one of only a hanful offering this procedure) and Dr. Dunaways skill during surgery made, what is usually a very intense recovery period, very easy indeed. Next to no pain post surgery (stopped take pain meds after two days), swelling gone after 2 weeks, and no post-op infection...Back to work after cast was removed 5 days post surgery. Implants were inserted via external approach, which I suggested, because of my concerns over potential infection if placed via intraoral incision. Small scars are hidden under jaw angle and are not noticeable...Also easily hidden with light stubble. Surgery went well with no problems, and the team Dr. Dunaway had eased any pre-surgery anxiety. As mentioned the easy recovery period made the whole process a breeze. I believe Dr. Dunaway offers a year of checkups & free consults for a certain period after surgery, which I have not used due to working overseas for the last 8 months...But which wasn't required anyway due to no problems arising. Implant design around the jaw angles was maybe not as large as I wanted, but still an improvement...Especially are the chin area, in which a solid amount of width/projection has been achieved. PEEK implants also feel just like real bone, look completely natural and have no problems with shifting/movement, or tissue ingrowth (thus are simple to remove), so are worth the extra cost in comparison to Medpor and Silicone. If I do decide to get the jaw angle area redone then Dr. Dunaway is the only surgeon I would consider, due to his trustful nature, experience with facial procedures and surgical skill.
I had been very concious of my hooded eyelids for over the last 3years. I felt that I couldn't apply the makeup styles I wanted & I also felt I looked very serious and tired all the time. I finally took the plunge and had a consultation with Dr Dunaway on the 15th July 2015. I spent a lot of time researching doctors. After the consultation I felt more confident that my hang up was not just in my head as some friends and family had been telling me. They said my eyes where fine & I didn't need anything done. The procedure was carried out under local anaesthetic at the clinic. This was great as I could go about my usual daily routine and eat and drink as normal. The procedure took approx 1hr and I was completely comfortable and felt no pain or discomfort during the procedure. Directly afterwards I could feel a tighteness and struggled to blink. I am writing this two days post op and I have a fair amount of bruising over my left eye (left side of my face has always been more sensitive) still awkward to blink and vision is very blurry. I have not experienced any pain or needed to take pain relief. I will be having my stitches removed on the 9th Sept. Updated on 4 Sep 2015: Updated on 5 Sep 2015: Feeling a lot better today. Eyes no longer feel dry and can blink without the really tight sensation. Vision a lot clearer too, but think this is down to eyes being well lubricated again. So far feeling positive :)) Updated on 7 Sep 2015: Updated on 9 Sep 2015: Had stitches removed today and finally get to see my new eyes. Right eye has healed quicker and not as swollen as left. Still have to keep small portion of steri strip on corner of left eye for a few more days. I can see a dramatic difference although slightly different looks on each eye due to different healing times. So far so good. Have to use special ointment for 5 days then start using Dermatrix silicone gel AM & PM to help tiny scar settle :)) Updated on 12 Sep 2015: Updated on 8 Oct 2015: Able to wear some mascara at this point. I had semi permanent eyeliner done about a year ago and this has been great, when not being able to wear any makeup post op. Updated on 15 Mar 2016: Absolutely loving my results. I fact I have actually been wearing less eye makeup instead of more! Scars have settled really well and hardly visible. Have posted a picture of me with some eye makeup on. I'm just starting to get the hang of applying it :) Updated on 10 Apr 2016: Updated on 10 Apr 2016:
