I had a little Botox for my eyes and juvaderm for my lips so I figured I would get rid,of the spider veins on my face. I was tired of trying to cover them. It's been 3 days since the procedure and I was horrified at the swelling. The clinic did not prepare me for it not did they suggest icing it. Just a cold cloth if there was burning. It does look like my spider veins have lessened considerably; for which I am happy; but I wish I had researched it further or the clinic nurse had not treated me so aggressively. Thank goodness for this site which got me through the long weekend with answers to my questions. I plan to go back to the clinic Monday morning for drugs to help with the swelling as suggested by your online Doctors. Updated on 30 Jan 2015: I hated always trying to keep the veins on my checks and nose and even inside my nostrils where they were visible. The laser treatment was quite extreme and done at a high setting so the swelling lasted a week instead of a couple days ; byut the results are fantastic. Just one treatment and I can wear a light foundation and feel comfortable all day. Even at the beach I will go makeup less and feel so much more confident in how my skin looks.
If you've never done Botox or Filler before, then my standard recommendation is doing the treatments 2 weeks prior to a holiday. Botox takes effect for most patients within a few days but may take upto 2 weeks for maximal results. Filler is immediate, but sometimes swelling and bruising can occur which may last for a couple of days. This being said, many patients will do Botox/Filler a couple of days prior to a trip and do just fine but the above advice is a more cautious approach.
Assuming you saw a qualified Botox injector and the proper number of units was used in the appropriate muscles, wait the full 2 weeks for the Botox to take full effect. The 11 lines may still improve over the next few days as it was only 3 days ago you were treated. If they are still deep after the Botox has taken full effect, filler may be another option you can discuss with your doctor on your follow-up appointment.
I see lots of young women in my practice and deep frown lines (even in a 24 year old) are are a very common problem. My recommendation is to give the botox the full 2 weeks before reassessing results. If you are still able to frown a little at this point in time then would suggest increasing the dose of botox in the frown lines. If you keep the botox treatments up over time the lines will likely improve as well (will depend upon how deep the lines originally are of course). Filler would be an option after the botox has taken full effect if you still need some volume to to help soften the lines. Make sure you follow up with your Dermatologist to further explore your options.
