I am one year post-surgery.
Dr. Carmen Munteanu performed an abdominoplasty for me, and as part of this surgery, she also repaired a nasty umbilical hernia.
This is a significant operation, and the recovery requires patience and discipline to follow the post Op instructions. Yes, the resulting scar is big, but I look at myself and see an improved belly and I don't think about the scar. Instead, I only focus on the big happy smile on my face, because I am delighted with the results.

I cannot put into words how much Carmen and her team changed my life. After 150kg weight loss I had massive amounts of extra skin on my body. This was not only a physical burden but it effected my mental health greatly. I had many consultations with well known Melbourne based plastic surgeons that I just didn't feel were the right fit for me. Most of the surgeons would tell me how they performed the surgery and show me cookie cutter results from previous patients. I didn't feel confident that using the same method on my skin was going to achieve the best result, due to the amount of skin I had hanging from my body. I was recommended Carmen by a family friend. From the moment I walked in a felt safer and more comfortable due to her amazing team behind the desk.

About 10 minutes into the consult with Carmen I had made up my mind. Carmen wanted to do things different to everyone else. She studied my body, the way my skin fell, the quality of my skin and the contour of my body. She explained how the procedure would normally be performed and explained what she would do different to get the best results for my body. Further to this, Carmen was the first surgeon that explained to me that I did not need to lose more weight. The size of my body was not due to excess fat but purely excess skin. Of the four surgeons I had seen, nobody else had told me this. Being someone who used to be 250kgs, this was something Id waited my entire life to hear. I remember getting back into my car after my consult and crying. I felt relieved, excited and so proud of what I had achieved. This was a special moment.

Over the following four years I had four procedures. My chest, arms, 360 lower body lift and thigh lift. Never once was I nervous about the procedure, It was pure excitement. The confidence I had in Carmen and her team made these procedures so easy and my recovery was always great (compared to the horrors Id read online). It may sound silly, but I actually looked forward to each of my check ins/follow ups because I loved to see Carmen and the team. It felt like visiting family.

The results from my surgery were mind blowing. I try not to compare myself to anyone else in a similar situation to me, but purely form results viewpoint I could not have began to imagine what Carmen was able to achieve. Its now 7 years since my first procedure (Arm lift and chest reduction) and the results are still as good as the day I walked out of the recovery room and scarring is minimal.

What stood out the most to me was that I wasn't just another customer to Carmen and her team. They got to know me, my life and my goals. Carmen clearly understood the mental rollercoaster I was going through with extreme weight loss, essentially starting a new life and relearning who I was. There were mental health check ups, long conversations and celebrations of achievements I'd made in my personal life. On occasions Carmen would remind me where I'd started and how far I'd come. This was not something I would have EVER expected from my plastic surgeon.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Carmen and her team from the bottom of my heart. I'm so grateful that they were able to play such a huge part in my life not only then, but what Carmen was able to achieve will have a positive impact on every day of my life going forward. I'm forever grateful.
