Dear Me Shell, It may be safe for you to go home the same day. Factors we usually consider for outpatient surgery are how long the surgery takes and how much liposuction needs to be done. Typically, we would want your surgery to be 5 or 6 hours (or less) and to limit liposuction to 5 liters. But, it can be expensive to stay overnight in the hospital. In cases where more than 5 or 6 hours of work need to be done, I would typically recommend that surgery be separated into different operations. I'm sure your surgeon would be happy to discuss this concern with you and clarify your plan. Best to you! Caleb Steffen, MD
