Great Doctor and place. I am 72 years old and I worked as a programmer. When I needed to correct vision me worrisome that tampering with my vision could change my career, therefore I have decided to choose the best expert in California, who doesn't want the very best? I was referred to Dr. Arkady Kagan by a girlfriend of my wife - he is a highly professional doctor, exceptional service. I had heard great things about this doctor. However, I was hesitant because, well, it’s my eyesight and I wouldn’t just trust anyone - I had a very complicated situation - my vision before was very poor and I could not see clearly from the distance and near, I almost couldn’t see and was only getting worse. I had cataracts in both eyes and in one eye was very poor. But when I heard about Dr. Kagan and his phenomenal procedures, I gave in - I went for a consultation as I couldn’t read anymore. Today Dr. Kagan is simply the best in Los Angeles. He is Honest, Professional, Knowledgeable. Extensively explains all alternatives, so his patients can make the best educated decision for themselves. He gave me a thorough evaluation on my eye problems. In addition to him being a fantastic doctor he has friendly office staff always makes you comfortable and accommodating. I have been seeing Dr Kagan and his crew for a few months now, and they are really quite amazing. Great stuff, beautiful offices, lots of attention and care. I really like how doctor gives eye contact, answers questions, ask questions, explains procedures - it made me feel comfortable. Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, very knowledgeable and understanding doctor made a huge impression on me. They became like family after seeing them multiple time through my multiple visits for the procedure and check-ups. And I trusted Dr. Kagan with this procedure because of his many years of experience, credentials, excellent results and his latest top equipment. Arkady promised I would see and probably never have to wear glasses again. After extensive research when I went in on the day of my surgery, my nervousness faded (primarily due to Dr. Kagan’s knowledge, caring attitude, and his staff’s understanding). September 5, 2019 for right eye and October 17, 2019 for left eye entire process from start to finish went exactly as they said it would. Everything went smooth and without complications. My surgery was very successful. It has been 2 days since I had my second eye operated on and I am glad to report that i am doing well. The results are amazing. I can’t believe how 20-minute procedure could so immediately and drastically change my vision...and therefore my life! Dr. Arkady Kagan is a true miracle worker! I was nearly blind in one eye. I could barely see an eye. It is rare that your expectations are exceeded. I’m a programmer, so I was able to do computer programming in 1 days after correction!!! Yet today, just one day after eye surgery by Dr. Kagan, I can already read very fine print with that eye and still cannot believe it! I see both far and near with both eyes with no glasses. The world around me has changed. It’s become brighter, happier, and so much more wonderful. It really is like magic. I’m amazed by just how clear the world that surrounds me is. I was totally amazed at seeing things I had never seen before and the brightness of colors. This is a very new and unusual feeling for me, and I gradually get to it. I'm very thankful to Arkady Kagan for perfect correction of my vision to 100 %. I don't need to use glasses anymore! Thank you, Dr Kagan and staff you did, an awesome job. I’m 100% satisfied. Remember, the most important - high quality! It truly is life changing. I think Dr. Kagan and his team are the best in Ls Angeles. He is not only a great ophthalmologist and surgeon; he also does great cosmetic work. Highly Recommend! I highly recommend Dr. Kagan to anyone who needs an eye surgery or a cosmetic procedure. And I have told my family and friends that if they need eye care the best Dr. in L.A. is Arkady Kagan. He is very honest. When I brought in my wife for cataract surgery, he let us know that it wasn't necessary and too early at the time whereas other doctors tried to rush us into the procedure in 2001! We'll be coming here for years to come! Every review on the Internet gives Dr. Kagan, who was named American's top ophthalmologist in 2004. Anatoli Dolgov
I have been seeing Dr Kagan and his crew for a few months now, and they are really quite amazing. I'm pretty sure there isn't much they CAN'T do, the results are amazing, and the entire process from start to finish went EXACTLY as they said it would. The staff is friendly, yet professional and it is clear they enjoy where they work. Dr Kagan is cautious yet thorough, and I can't wait to go back for my next treatment!
Dr Kagan is truly amazing talent. I had my first eye lid surgery about year ego, effect was so great that I came back little later for lower eye lid producer with the trust only. During the whole surgery I felt really comfortable and I didn't feel any pain. Dr Kagan's work is always very meticulous and brilliant also his knowledge and skills are very impressive. Every time I'm leaving the institute satisfied and educated how to treat myself after any procedure. As well the whole staff working at the institute is very helpful and pleasant. Giving all 5 stars review -Alicja
I am very pleased with Dr. Arkady Kagan. They exceeded my high expectations. The work was done with out pain and with LOCAL anesthetics. It was similar to a dentist where you do NOT feel pain just the idea in your head that you are being worked on. Dr K gave me a pill to help me relax. That helped ! My results are super and he does a great job on his follow up visits.
I have known Dr. Kagan for over 18 years now. He is a nicest doctor out there. I had some cosmetic procedures done over the time. Fillers, botox, peels and laser. My mother had lasik surgery done on both of her eyes. We are just happy patients overall. The most I like about Dr. Kagan, that if he doesn't see a need for his patient to do certain cosmetic procedures done, he will talk patient out of the idea. Its all about the results for Dr. Kagan. I am happy that i discovered his office years back.
I went to see the doctor, as he was strongly recommended by a few people I've spoken to before. During the consultation, Dr. Kagan spoke slowly and answered all my questions. He described the reason for my problem in detail. I am glad I chose him for this surgery. Now I can see clearly and feel like my life is back.
I was referred to Dr. Kagan by my own physician who is a patient for over 20 years. I almost couldn't see. My glasses were progressive lens & heavily presripted & was only getting worse. From the moment I called, the staff listened & answered all my questions.I had cataracts in both eyes. Arkady promised I would see & probably never have to wear glasses again. He took the time to explain & educate. I had the surgeries, which were quick & completely pain free.Never have I had such confidence in a doctor & it is well founded. I can see perfectly & do NOT need glasses! It was just awesome & I am so happy. Please, don't think about anyone else.
I had a concern regarding my face. I seen Dr. Arkady Kagan and I'm so grateful to have found such a good doctor. Things I liked & that are important to me: *he shook my hand *he gave me eye contact *he asked questions *he answered my questions *he explains *he is patient *he is professional *he is very nice *he made me feel comfortable *he showed me that I can have confidence in his profession.. He and his staff are very nice. Turana was extremely helpful & extremely pleasant...!
I went to Dr Arkady Kagan for Portrait skin resurfacing. Our consultation was fairly long as he took his time to explain and answer questions. My first visit we decided to include botox, which I never thought I would consider. I was amazed at the results! Dr. Kagan is VERY skilled at placement and dosage so the results were not only amazing but very natural looking. Not the plastic look a lot of women here in L.A. have! Now we also did the Portrait skin resurfacing at the same time. It had no effect on my whatsoever! But Dr. Kagan offered to do laser at no cost at my next visit and I got very good results. I recently went again for another laser treatment and botox touchup (its been 4 months) I'm still healing from the laser treatment but it's looking really good so far! So, all in all I LOVE going here! The prices are reasonable, I think I spent about 5,000 for a total of 5 visits and three actual procedures. The staff is awesome. My results are fabulous!!!!
We don’t recommend that you have LASIK done but rather consider PRK with mitomycin C. Here are the concepts which you need to keep in mind:
You can have either PRK or LASIK for your level of astigmatism. Which procedure you have is not as important as the technology and surgeon that does your procedure. For the past 15 years we have done PRK and LASIK BOTH for your level of astigmatism with excellent results. Good luck, you only have 2 eyes!
Yes, you may have LASIK for myopia of minus 7.5, BUT you have to make sure that your cornea is thick. There is also a non flap option for correcting minus 7.5 called PRK. However, in your post you wrote + 7.5 which means you actually have farsightedness or hyperopia which is very different than myopia or nearsightedness. If, indeed, that is the case, than your options at your age are limited to either doing nothing or doing a clear lens exchange and replacing your natural crystalline lens with an implant that is an entirely different and much more serious procedure than LASIK or PRK. Good luck, you only have 2 eyes!
We feel that PRK is a much better option for you. Here is why. Because you are young your prescription may change a bit into your 30’s, having PRK will give you the opportunity to have an enhancement 5, 10 or even 15 years from your initial treatment. If you had LASIK and need an enhancement 5,10 or 15 years later you must do PRK anyway. Secondly, if you are very active and participate in sports, after LASIK there is always the possibility of dislodging the flap (which has serious visiual consequences). And last but not least a cornea of 520 in our opinion is a bit too thin to do LASIK, you risk a small chance of corneal ectasia in the future. Your “higher prescription” should not worry you for the PRK procedure because we have done PRK for patients as high as minus 9 with excellent results. One caveat we routinely use Mitomycin for PRK patients to prevent corneal haze again with good outcomes. Good luck, you only have 2 eyes.
We agree with monovision and PRK. Your myopia is significant and pupil size large in order to perform the proper LASIK correction it would require significant removal of corneal tissue which may possibly lead to corneal ectasia in the future and poor quality vision. PRK is a better option BUT there is a possibility of corneal haze with PRK therefore the doctor who does your treatment should consider using Mitomycin which is used during the PRK treatment to reduce the possibility of haze. Regarding monovision and your lifestyle. Tennis and computers are very different in terms of visual function but you CAN have good vision for both of those activities. Here is what we would recommend have the surgeon determine your dominant eye and do that dominant eye for minus .50 diopter and do the non-dominant eye (the near vision eye) for minus 1.25 to minus 1.50 diopters. If you are able to achieve those prescriptions after your surgery you should be able to drive, watch movies, read and use the computer well into your late 50s and early 60’s without glasses. We have done this type of correction for patients in our office for many years and everyone has been very pleased and happy with their vision. Good luck you only have 2 eyes.
