So I'm a 29 year old male in Boston,MA scheduled for Gastric Sleeve surgery Wednesday October 7th 2015. I have been heavy since the age of 14 and have always spent so much time taking care of others (family, friends, my work involves taking care of others) but never making any time to care for myself and my health. In late 2014 I decided to make a change in my life and decided to talk to my PCP about weight loss surgery and discuss my options. I was then referred to The Center for Weight Control at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton ,MA. The team at this facility is really great! They are friendly, respectful, compassionate and understanding. Come to find out a lot of the people that work in this facility have had some sort of weight loss intervention at one point in time. I have NEVER had a bad experience at this facility in the 9 months I've been in program. Doctor McCluney (the surgeon performing my procedure) is a straight shooter if I've ever met one!! He is very honest and realistic about what to expect with the procedure and serious about his patients making the lifestyle changes needed in order to maintain results after the operation. I am very excited and a little nervous for this procedure but ready to start a new chapter of my life. Starting Weight: 361lbs Pre Surgery: 340 lbs Updated on 11 Oct 2015: Hey all just wanted to check in now that I'm feeling up to it. The surgery went well!!! I was a little stressed the morning of surgery because I thought I was going to be late for my appointment and miss my surgery time (thankfully I wasn't). I won't go too much into the surgery as I'm sure you can find that information anywhere I'll just talk about my post op situation. I will say that St. Elizabeth's Medical Center gave me a great experience and made me feel very comfortable. I am having a hard time getting my required amount of fluids but I am feeling great and ready to start this new journey. I don't have too much to say I am just trying to let it sink in.. I'll be back later. Thank you to everyone who's commented I appreciate your support. Updated on 14 Oct 2015: Hey all, Just wanted to pop in and update everyone as to where I'm at 1 week post op (7 days). Let me start by saying.. I AM SO SICK OF BROTH !!! Hahaha... But let me also say I am feeling the best I've felt in a long time. I've been able to stick to a pretty decent routine as I took essentially the whole month of October off from work to really take my journey into my own hands and get eating with my sleeve together in a controlled environment before going out into the real world. I realize not everyone can do that but if you can.. I highly suggest it.. Not only for the food portion but also for the mental and emotional aspect of it... Your body is not the only place going through changes. The way you feel about the surgery will cross your mind, the way you feel about yourself and your life will fluctuate (and I'm sure continue to fluctuate as this journey goes on). I'm just saying I think this extended time off has really been beneficial not just for weight loss but to get myself together and start working on some things I've ignored. Anyway let's get to the weight!!! Starting weight: 361 Pre op: 340 1 week post op: 325 That is a 15 pound weight loss in 1 week!!! I have not been exercising other than light walking but mostly sitting on my duff watching Netflix all day hahaha...I can't wait until I can start being a little more active and I also can't wait to start soft foods!!! I have my 2 week post op appointment next Thursday with my team and I will update you with totals and maybe a purée/soft foods grocery haul?!?!? Everyone stay happy, healthy and fun Updated on 21 Oct 2015: Hey everyone! I hope this finds you well. I just wanted to do a quick update of where I am and how I'm doing 2 weeks after surgery. I have to say i am feeling back to my old self in the way that I'm not sore or feeling any pain. I have been doing a lot better getting my fluids down and upping my protein. I'm not meeting my goal in either but I'm 75% there. I have already noticed a HUGE difference in how my clothes fit me... my work pants that fit me pretty snug 2 weeks ago are literally falling off of me I had to use a belt. Now anyone that knows me knows I didn't even own a belt until this week because I've never had a need to LOL!! I don't return to work until Nov 2nd but I just wanted to see a tangible different for myself. When you see yourself every day it's hard to see that you're making progress so i needed to actually really see it to believe it. I plan on posting pics of me on my Month surge-aversary to show you guys the progress and I'll try to continue to do that every month. Let's get to those totals!!! Starting weight: 361 Pre op: 340 1 week post op: 325 2 week post op: 318 43 lb loss total !!! That's a 7 lb loss in 7 days folks..I can't believe it.. and I can't wait until I'm active again and burning more calories. I have my 2 week post op appointment tomorrow and I can't wait for them to advance me to soft foods. Everyone stay healthy, happy, and fun because life is way too short to be anything else Updated on 28 Oct 2015: So... i am a bit disappointed and a little depressed. I think i have hit the dreaded 2-3 week stall.. I started soft foods after my last appointment which has been GREAT!! lol.. but I haven't lost any weight this week, in fact i gained 2 pounds!! I am very thankful for the weight I've already lost but I'm not going to lie I wish it was more. I keep telling myself you lost a lot of weight the 1st 2 weeks.. maybe it's your body trying to catch up. I hope so .. I'm actually going to start doing some light cardio as i have a exercise bike in my living room... idk folks I'm bummed! wish me luck
