I am so grateful to Dr. Alexes Hazen. She is a superb and talented surgeon. Perhaps just as importantly, she is kind, compassionate, and patient. She is exactly what I had hoped for. Her team is also amazing; supportive, organized, and highly responsive.
Dr Hazen is an artist and she knows what she is doing and she does an incredible job. Her staff is very helpful and accommodating. If you Choose Dr Hazen you will be making the best choice as she will make sure to give you the best “Honest” advise of how to bring the best of you. My confidence have increased and my life is so much happier. She is without a doubt one of the top doctors in the United States.
Dr. Hazen put me at ease before, during and after my revision surgery. She is extremely responsive to questions and concerns, at times emailing back in the evening a half hour from when a message was sent to her. She was able to work with me to do appointments both in person and virtually which really helped with my schedule and COVID comfort. Her staff is also incredible with professional demeanor, clear explanations and timely follow up. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hazen and her whole staff to anyone looking for a positive surgery experience.
i have had multiple gender affirming procedures with dr. hazen over the course of the last 3 years. throughout our clinical relationship, she and her staff have been consummately knowledgeable, available, prompt, efficient, and engaged with myself and other patients of theirs whom i know. it's a breath of fresh air to deal with a clinical team whose working dynamic and comradery are so dialed in that you can submit a document, make a call, or send an email to one person and simply rest assured that by day's end, the relevant information has been communicated to everyone concerned. And when i say Jill and Erica are ON IT?? i remember showing up for a procedure around 6 or 7 in the morning one late summer, looking rather beastly, at a completely different facility than the usual office, and jill and erica were right there giving full business casual with dr. hazen, calmly dealing with the day's affairs while waiting for my arrival since who knows what time. i barely know how to groom myself or speak at that hour; erica may or may not have been wearing an entire heeled pump. All jokes aside, i cannot overstate how devastatingly common it is, across the country and across the board, for aesthetic surgeons (even those who work regularly with transgender clientèle) to range anywhere from casually ignorant to outwardly antagonistic, apathetic, and opportunistic, taking advantage of their patients' vulnerabilities, good faith, and lack of research / available specific information on trans health and healthcare options.Dr. hazen and her team are a welcome relief from this tendency, and she remains one of the only surgeons whose instincts, results, and clinical opinion i truly trust and respect. in instances where i've sought a procedure or approach that dr. hazen didn't offer, she has always been able to provide not only a coherent and detailed explanation of the disadvantages and risks underlying her decision, but also multiple alternative approaches and providers with whose work she is familiar who may offer other options. This unfortunately rare combination of skill and generosity is a treasure, and i feel incredibly lucky to have been able to access care through her practice. I might also add that i am far from an easy patient to work with. not only did i come into consult each time with an incredibly specific and exacting vision of what i was going for (not only in appearance and form but in movement, response to touch, texture, alignment, density, and so on).I also presented with a history of being lied to, ignored, and botched by other surgeons. dr. hazen has been consistently adept at assuaging my anxieties and concerns both pre and post surgery, and - of utmost importance to me - has been willing and able to look earnestly at a result once healed and discuss potential modification or revision when the outcome isn't quite where i'd like it to be yet.Where other surgeons have been obstinate and defensive, dr. hazen has confidently guided me through the many stages of this journey into an embodiment and sense of personal fulfillment i wasn't sure i'd find previously. my experience of her practice is one defined by a healthy and pragmatic balance of self determination on the part of the patient with results that are reliable, carefully considered, natural looking, and harmonious not only with one's physique and proportions, but with one's expressed sense of being in the world.Given all this, the icing on the cake is really the fact that she and her team have chosen to build their practice in a profoundly accessible way by working in close contact with medicaid managed care plans and insurance teams to ensure that patients of various class backgrounds, many of whom would not otherwise be able to secure these life saving interventions for themselves, have a defined pathway to care. on multiple occasions, jill, barbara, erica, and dr. hazen herself have gone above and beyond to bring the necessary elements together and make magic happen. I am so, so profoundly grateful for all their hard work and expertise, and i could not recommend them more highly.
My experience with dr. Hazen was incredible she was very patient answered all my questions. She is highly-skilled she made me feel comfortable and so easy to talk to i would definitely recommend dr. Hazen to anyone looking to get ftm top surgery in the future!!!!
Couldn't have asked for a better doctor with a better team. Dr Hazen and Jill were both amazing. Great communicators. I finally pass & I finally have the freedom I've always been yearning for. I will thank Dr Hazen for this forever. She did for me what I couldn't for myself . . Made me feel secure and free in my own body. I was so nervous I even had a panic attack the morning after my surgery and I ripped my right side back open. I was scared I was going to bleed out, that I [RS bleep] myself up but nope here come Dr Hazen aka wonder woman herself and she saved the day with her soothing securing words, then by operating on me again and fixing everything, telling me it wasn't my fault. I could have coughed and the same thing would have happened. I love these people for helping me. I would recommend her to every and anyone who wants this procedure. Stop discrediting our female surgeons they are just as good and Dr Hazen is even better. I'm obsessed with my chest. It literally brings me tears of joy on the regular and that's just something I'm not used to ever but it feels good. I didn't know tears of joy were real up until my experience with Dr Hazen. I can finally say I'm happy something I haven't been since an innocent child. THANK YOU DR ALEXES HAZEN!!
Dr Hazen is the best at what she does. She is super compassionate and talented. Would Recommend her 100%. You would not be disappointed at all. When I had a complication in the middle of the night she was there for me which I appreciated so much.
Dr. Hazen is friendly, compassionate, has great results, and is sensitive to transgender patients (including nonbinary patients). Her office also goes above and beyond to help patients secure insurance coverage. Highly recommend!
Dr. Hazen’s aura during my first visit with her was warm and welcoming. My wife accompanied me and Dr. Hazen included her in discussion and also asked our pro nouns which really made us feel welcomed as a Queer couple. Dr. Hazen was very informative with what the procedure entails and truly hit every nail on the head where I had no questions (which is rare). On the day of surgery, Dr. Hazen and her crew were ready. They put me at ease though I was very nervous. The what I call “music technique” worked like a charm and before I knew it; I was up and surgery was complete. Having FTM top surgery I figured I would feel a great deal of pain but there was little to no pain. She and her crew are quick to respond back to any emails/messages and never leave you anxious waiting on a response. Dr. Hazen gave my life and freedom a new meaning. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of an out of this world surgeon and experience.
Having been a client of Dr. Hazen for over 10 years, there is no other doctor I would even consider going to as she is absolutely amazing. She is kind, compassionate, insightful and just absolutely perfect. There are really no words that would do her justice and highly recommend without a doubt!
“Top surgery” or bilateral mastectomy with male chest wall recontouring and nipple and areolar reconstruction, is a procedure designed to remove breast tissue and reshape the nipple and areola in order to create a more masculine chest appearance. Alongside hormone therapy, top surgery is typically one of the first steps for patients who are transitioning from female to male; this may also be the only surgical procedure undergone by many trans men. Patients who opt for bilateral mastectomy can expect to experience a number of benefits, including a greater congruence between their outside appearance and experienced gender, improved self-esteem and self-image.
In many transgender patients there can be hair loss due to taking exogenous hormones. Some trans women may want to change their hairline to make it appear more feminine. There are many different treatments that work for hair restoration, for example oral or topical medications and injections of PRP or steroids. Recovery from hair transplant is about 5 days, though most patients feel fine after 2 days. This procedure is great for male pattern baldness, thinning hair, and trans-masculine patients who lose hair due to taking testosterone. It is also effective for any patient who wants to change their natural hairline.
Often, with the efforts of both patient and physician, we can get an individual covered. Sometimes, we can even pave the way to get a contract between your insurance company and our office so that future patients who have the same insurance can benefit as well. With PPO insurance plans that cover transgender surgery, we are usually able to get a portion (if not all) of the surgery covered. Sometimes, we can work with the HR department of larger companies to help make your surgery possible. This is the common pathway we use to work our way through the system.
Many trans women choose to get breast augmentation as part of their transition. Generally breast tissue develops with the hormonal transition, but sometimes patients want larger breasts and want to augment the shape as well. Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that can be used to enhance the size, shape, or fullness of the breasts. This procedure has a number of important benefits for the trans woman. It can provide a greater sense of congruence between her inner and outer selves, enhance her confidence and self-esteem and help her wear the clothing she wants to and feel more comfortable doing so. For these reasons, breast augmentation is a vital step in the male-to-female transition. The surgery cost ranges from $12,000 - $20,000.
