Dr. Rassman and his staff are the most professional and caring people I have ever had the experience of having a hair transplant procedure with. The facilities are immaculate, well-stocked, and very comfortable. Dr. Rassman performed an incredible, outstanding job, exceedingly beyond my expectations, demonstrating that he is the top hair transplant surgeon in the world. This man restored my youthful appearance with an undetectable, natural look, and Tram was outstanding in her work performing the SMP procedures at the recommendation of Dr. Rassman to augment and enhance the transplant work he performed. All in all, I would unhesitatingly recommend NHI to anyone for these procedures! I kind of consider these wonderful people family, as they are warm, cordial, respectful, and caring in a real genuine way. Thank you Dr. Rassman! I love you!
Dr. Rassman is a pioneer of the FUE procedure in the hair restoration industry! I was fortunate to find him at a time when there will still a lot of surgeons performing hair transplants that looked pluggy and fake, like that of a doll's hair. I found Dr. Rassman and his entire staff to be very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and most importantly...extremely skilled and talented with the hair restoration services that they provided! I would recommend Dr. Rassman and his staff to anyone who expects only the very best in hair restoration and will settle for nothing short of perfection with the final results of their procedure!
Dr. Rassman is an outstanding doctor. About 18 months before my FUT hair transplants with Dr. Rassman I had undergone an FUE hair transplant with a different doctor in New York using the Artas robotic system. Unfortunately the results from my first hair transplant (not with Dr. Rassman) were unsatisfactory – although I had 2234 grafts I suffered a lot of shock loss that did not regrow causing an appearance of greater thinning than prior to the first transplant. I therefore wanted to have another transplant. At this stage FUE was by far my preference as although initially it is much more noticeable because of the need to shave the donor area to the scalp I liked the idea of no scarring. When planning my second transplant I contacted the same place in NY as I had been previously and they told me they recommended another 2000 graft FUE transplant using the Artas system. This time though I decided to get a second opinion and after a lot of research on leading hair transplant doctors I contacted Dr. Rassman. I sent through photos and had a skype consultation. Dr. Rassman told me emphatically that FUT was a much better option for me (and the only option he would recommend) because the amount of grafts I would need to achieve a good result would leave the donor area looking patchy. In confirming by email immediately after our skype consultation his recommendation he said: “There is a limit as to how many FUE grafts a person can have without showing a see-through donor area and that number for the typical Caucasian male is about 3600 FUE grafts. I believe that you could use far more grafts“. I was thoroughly convinced by Dr. Rassman that an FUT procedure was the best option for me and set about planning for my visit. The staff at New Hair Institute were excellent and although I was an out-of-town patient all of the arrangements and dealings with them were seamless. On the day of the procedure I arrived just before the 6.00am start time. After completing a couple of administrative forms and selecting my lunch from a great menu I met Dr. Rassman in person for the first time. Although I had previously had a hair transplant I had not had the cutting involved with FUT before and was apprehensive about both the removal of the donor area and the anesthetic to the scalp as previously this had been uncomfortable. Dr. Rassman immediately put me at ease and was constantly joking with me whilst he was drawing on where he thought the hairline should be lowered. He gave me a couple of tablets to relax and a small (painless) injection in my arm which he said would “send me to Hawaii!” – and it did! The injections to my scalp were totally painless and I was asleep before they had even started the procedure. When I woke up, it was lunchtime and I enjoyed a delicious lunch. By this time, the donor area had been removed, all of the incisions for placement of the grafts had been made by Dr. Rassman and Dr. Rassman’s team were working on preparing the rest of the grafts – they had already completed placing around 1000 grafts by the time I woke up. After lunch dr. Rassman topped up the anesthetic (again completely painless) and completed the procedure with me asleep for more than half of the time. As the procedure completed Dr. Rassman again topped up the anesthetic so that the first few hours I would be pain free. I was given painkillers with instructions and agreed a time to come in early the next morning for my first hairwash. Dr. Rassman also placed a strip of tape across the top of my forehead which he said would stop any swelling moving down my face. After my first transplant (with a different doctor) I experienced huge swelling of my forehead and down into my face – but the tape worked perfectly and I had no visible swelling. Based on lots of feedback online from patients who have had the FUT procedure I was expecting to be in quite a lot of pain for the first couple of days. I followed the instructions from Dr. Rassman on taking the painkillers to “stay ahead of the pain” – including setting my alarm at regular intervals during the night to wake up and make sure that I had taken them in time. This worked great and I was completely pain-free the entire time. The next morning I was well enough to take a flight to Vegas to watch a boxing fight and had a great time (although I avoided alcohol as I was still taking the medication). I had a second and third FUT transplants with Dr. Rassman and the experience was equally as good each time. Dr. Rassman is an exceptional doctor. He is a leading authority on hair transplant, technically gifted and is very funny and with an exceptional bedside manner. Although it sounds rather strange to say, the experience was actually enjoyable! I should say that it is not only Dr. Rassman who is exceptional at New Hair Institute the entire team were incredible – extremely professional and very friendly. I have since had scalp micropigmentation with Dr. Jae Pak at NHI and again he was both exceptional and very friendly and that procedure was also entirely painless. In my first FUT procedure with Dr. Rassman I received 2212 grafts, in my second FUT procedure I received 2017 grafts and in my third 2641 grafts. I will upload photos after my third FUT transplant in a few months where there is more regrowth. I could not recommend New Hair Institute more highly. I have had both FUT and SMP procedures with NHI and every time the experience has been exceptional. Updated on 10 Jun 2020: Including before & after photos of FUT transplant. Please see the attached:
My experience with Dr. Rassman was and continues to be wonderful. I had a transplant for my hairline and am extremely happy with the results. What's more, since the operation Dr. Rassman has been available to consult me without fail on any questions I've had and for that I am truly grateful. He's a good person that will always keep the conversation uplifting as well, which helps tremendously if you're nervous about treatment for hair loss in any way.
I'm in my mid-40s, and have been losing my hair since early 20s. Once the opportunity arose to finally have a hair transplant, I researched and spent a year or so visiting and calling doctors from all over. When I met Dr. Rassman, my decision was made easy for me. There was no hard sale, probably because his reputation speaks for itself. His staff is outstanding as well. My procedure was 3375 grafts, dispersed mostly in the front, with work done on the crown as well. The procedure itself was painless, and the process after was easy to follow and painless as well. I'm now at the six month mark and have more hair now than I did twenty years ago. Looking forward to see how it progresses and fills out. A very good sign is that the fellas at my barbershop, who have seen a ton of transplant work, are amazed at the results. To them it is virtually undetectable. My only regret is that I did not do this sooner. But better late than never!
As the years have gone by, I have started to notice some thinning up top. After doing some research, I decided to setup a hair loss consultation with Dr. Rassman. I chose to setup my appointment via an online form, and was surprised when I received a phone call from Dr. Rassman himself within 15 minutes! Turns out, he happened to see my consultation request while relaxing on his deck, and decided to give me a call! He was very friendly and personable on the phone, which made me feel better about my upcoming in-person consultation. I arrived on the day of my consultation and was seen very promptly. Dr. Rassman was as friendly and jovial in-person as he was on the phone. He did a quick visual examination, and then performed an inspection using a device called the Haircheck. This devices takes measurement of hair density per square inch at different sites on the scalp, using the back of the head as a baseline to compare with other locations on the scalp. I had never seen this type of device used before, and I was impressed by Dr. Rassman's objective and data-based approach to evaluating hair loss. After the Haircheck inspection, he informed me that there was some thinning, but not enough to recommend a hair transplant. He then gave me a thorough description of my options and talked through the potential side effects, while interjecting some lighthearted humor, which made me feel at ease. He was very knowledgeable, and was up to date on the latest research. In addition, he answered all of my questions and promised to email me additional info. I was surprised and delighted to find that Dr. Rassman followed-through on his promise quickly, emailing the additional info in about an hour. I suspect that many other surgeons would have simply taken my money and performed a hair transplant, but I respect Dr. Rassman for his candor and honesty in recommending against a hair transplant. If you are thinking about seeing someone about your hair loss, I would definitely recommend seeing Dr. Rassman for a consultation!
I had a great experience with Dr. Rassman. He answered all of my questions and concerns very thoroughly. The treatment went exactly as planned, as did post op care. Dr. Rassman is very good at following up and troubleshooting.
I am a 41 yo male physician. As a doctor in research my entire career, I highly value physicians that are academic minded, always looking for new solutions and ways to improve their practice through research and discussion of their techniques. Dr. Rassman fit this role. In fact, I did not see much reason to consider anyone else for my hair transplant. Dr. Rassman has been investigating improvements in transplant since the 90s, publishing numerous studies and enhancing his technique, teaching other surgeons, and remaining sharp in skill. In fact, Dr. Rassman has written a book about transplants and continues to present at the annual hair transplant meeting! I made an appointment and was talking to Dr. Rassman directly within 24 hours with no consultation person in between(really not a fan of that of that step). Dr. Rassman was prepared for our consult having reviewed all my photos and clearly knowledgeable and expertise in his advice. My surgery was easily scheduled with the office through his staff. They set up my hotel stay which was a $5 uber ride away and very close to the LAX airport. The actual surgery was very easy on me. It went by very quickly and I woke up with a full head of transplanted hair with 3850 grafts! I had very little discomfort throughout and was at my hotel with a lot of dinner options nearby. In addition, I could tell that the staff was all very experienced especially the techs, which as you know, is the other key to a good surgeon's success. Finally, the total cost was very competitive. Best of all, I talked to Dr. Rassman that evening by phone and every day for a week directly calling him on his cell phone as well as texting him photos each day of my head. He was there for me each day, reassuring me that everything I was going through was normal and I was making good progress. This direction connection with you surgeon is a must have! If your surgeon doesnt offer this, dont choose them. The first week is the most difficult part of the surgery for the patient and it is tremendously comforting to talk with the surgeon that day. Dont settle for a clinic that offers anything less nor should you settle for a surgeon who isnt the top surgeon in their field. I am now 5 weeks since the surgery and doing great. My transplant has gone according to schedule and I remain in touch with Dr. Rassman about my care. I really cant see why anyone would consider another clinic, even if you are out of town outside the LA or Orange County area. I got all my travel costs in my case reimbursed(they give 5% of your total surgery costs as a reimbursement of your travel costs) and it was so easy to get in and out of LAX and get to the clinic. I see no reason to go anywhere else, ever. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to talk about my experience.
Excellent experience from beginning to end. The staff was caring and skilled. Dr. Rassman is very skilled and professional. The results were as described. No problems. I would strongly recommend Dr. Rassman to anyone considering a hair transplant.
I had a treatment with Dr. Rassman one year ago and couldn't be happier with the results. I am 56 and look 20 years younger. The bald spot on the top of my head has completely disappeared and the hair line at the front looks like it did when I was in my 30s. The service at his clinic is outstanding and the results fantastic.
First have a doctor make the diagnosis of genetic balding. Then, once that is known, the use of finasteride is the preferred approach to slow, stop or reverse the hair loss, not PRP
There is no reason to take finasteride and dutasteride at the same time. Men over 25 with a clear Norwood pattern are candidates for a hair transplant
If these changes that you discussed are present for more than a year, then they are likely permanent.
A Hairline lowering surgery is a good surgery for some women, not for men. What is your sex? If you are a man, then I would worry about recession leaving a scar evident with a Hairline lowering surgery
I don't see a complete failure of the hair transplant. I would want to examine you and evaluate your donor area to see if another hair transplant to fix the patchy area is reasonable
