Liposuction or LipoSelection: Is There a Difference?

If you're considering liposuction, you may feel overwhelmed by all the different methods and techniques that seem to be available, one of which is LipoSelection. How is LipoSelection different from other types of liposuction, and will it deliver better body contouring results?

What Is LipoSelection?
LipoSelection refers to ultrasonic liposuction (UAL) [/url], which uses ultrasonic waves to liquefy fat cells for easier removal. Unlike other types of liposuction, UAL is what’s known as “tissue-selective,” targeting only fat cells with its energy source. It’s this capability that’s led to UAL being referred to as LipoSelection.
UAL offers two main advantages:

  1. The efficacy of the ultrasonic energy means that less physical force is required on the surgeon’s part to break apart and withdraw fatty deposits. Taking a gentler approach can allow patients to enjoy a quicker, easier recovery with less swelling and bruising.
  2. Because UAL targets only fat cells, plastic surgeons can achieve a higher level of precision during body contouring.
Don’t Forget Surgical Skill
All of this is not to imply that UAL is an inherently superior liposuction method. In fact, traditional tumescent lipo is still considered the gold standard of body contouring. The truth is, no matter which type of lipo you decide to have, the technical skill level and capability of your surgeon will directly determine the quality of your results. Look for a board certified surgeon with an artistic eye and plenty of experience rather than a specific liposuction type and you’ll discover that beautiful curves and contours aren’t far behind.
