Instant, Non-Surgical Chin Implant!

by

Whether you were born with a weak chin, or have acquired it over time as a result of the aging process, the latest Juvaderm filler Voluma® may be a quick solution for you. What is a weak chin? If one takes a profile picture (a side shot), the chin should be at or beyond a line dropped down from the lower lip in men. Women are a little different, ideally their chin should sit just behind that line. If the chin does not protrude to these aesthetic standards, we call it “weak.”

Why is this important? Chin position carries with it very significant attributes. Strong chins are associated with leaders, strength and virility. People with weak chins are often thought of as weak, frail, etc.
Up until recently, solutions for weak chins involved cutting the chin bone and sliding it forward and securing it with metal plates or wires. This procedure is called a genioplasty. Another option, and a more common, simpler procedure, is to build up the chin with a chin implant. Chin implants come in a variety of sizes and shapes to allow the surgeon to customize the implant to the individual patient. Implants are placed on the end of the jaw bone and require a trip to the operating room. Recovery time for these procedures vary from patient to patient but are generally about 1-2 weeks.

No time (or desire) to go to the operating room? Want to “test drive” what a stronger chin can do for your appearance? No problem. New Juvaderm Voluma,® a hyaluronic acid(HA) filler with unique lifting abilities, has become an exciting option to enhance the chin area. Voluma® is FDA-approved for building up the cheek areas. From our experience in this area, we have expanded its use to building up chins!
There are a couple of reasons why this has become a very popular, non-surgical procedure. One type of patient is interested in permanent chin enhancement, but would like to see what things may look like before they go to the operating room. Since Voluma is a hyaluronic acid filler, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase like the other HA fillers. The second type of patient is just looking for the quick fix. The in-office Voluma® procedure takes just minutes to do, resulting in an instant change. Generally there is no bruising, and patients can return to their activities that day. Results vary, but may last up to two years. For more information, or to schedule a consultation call 770.804.0007.
