I first considered a tummy tuck nearly 10 years ago. I was active, lifting weights and running nearly every day but my stomach had lost elasticity and was a pouch of hanging skin and still 175 lbs. We were still thinking about adding to our family and I resolved with diet/exercise I could accept my body.
Fast forward through the birth of my third child, raising a young family and building a career my resolve had ups/downs. I was between 210-214 lbs. There was always my stomach. My mother and sisters all had it. Light skin, overstretched, stretch marks and the pouch. It was holding me back and I now was clear with myself surgery was the answer.
I chose Dr. Hoffman, a surgeon that thinks 'holistically' about a woman's shape. He combined an extended tummy tuck & liposuction (back, inner/outer thighs, flanks) to create a wonderful hourglass. My body flowed together naturally so to speak.
My surgery was significant - 8+ hours, 6 lbs of skin/tissue removed from stomach & cc's that equaled nearly 15 lbs (some of this of course is IV fluid). The hospital and care pre-post surgery was outstanding.
8+ weeks later, the results are amazing and continue to improve each day. I am 21 lbs lighter today & 2 sizes down than before the surgery. Although my goal is to lose more weight through diet/exercise, I am wearing pants based on contour of my body when I was 20 lbs lighter than where I am now. I find my tighter stomach muscles help me feel full faster and I can hold my planks longer/stronger and no more push ups from my knees :) My swelling/tightness is reducing, scar is improving with silicone strip.
This type of surgery is a journey. I had a strong partner in my husband to help with my care every day and I was able to start working virtually from home day 2 after surgery. Those first 2 weeks are so important to have help in showering/drains/bathroom/meals etc. I held some meetings in office during week 3 and hosted a major event end of week 4. My recommendation is if you can - and you are having a major procedure such as mine, have as much flexibility such as working from home to week 6. At that point, I really felt more like myself and mobility was really good.
The tradeoff of my new body far outweighs the scar. I feel healthier and confident, my clothes look great on (not hiding the stomach) running is so different, stronger. It's a new start!
