The best decision was to have a tummy tuck, no regrets!

I have been wanting a tummy tuck for quite a few years now. Now that I am 38 and not having more kids, I am ready. I went last year (yes, over a year ago for a consult). I decided against it then because I had no one to cover me at work. Now that I work from home, I am just telling myself, "it's now or never". My mom is prepared to come and help me out. I have a 17 year old and 10 year old, so they are old enough to deal with me being down for some time. I was up last night having insomnia about it, afraid of complications. A commercial came on tv about birth control and lawsuits and it got me thinking and wondering if birth control affects the surgery. I am contemplating going off it prior. I do not smoke. But I was on my phone in the middle of the night "researching" and found this site. I am so glad, I am at ease. If today wasn't a holiday (7/4), I would be calling to schedule an appt. I only went to one dr. and felt comfortable with him,,,is that bad? I don't feel like going all over town paying for consults. He has all of the qualifications and is board certified. I know if I travel, I can get the procedure cheaper, and thought of going to India or Puerto Rico. But the thought of traveling and being in a strange place doesn't sit well with me. So, I am going to finance this and have it done close to home. I will be calling the office in the a.m to set up an appt to discuss this further. I'll keep you ladies posted! Any advice is appreciated!

Well, I called the next day. Since it has been a year since my last consult I have to get another :(
Plus it is not til the end of the month 7/25 and they said then it can be about another month before the surgery. So, I am kind of in limbo right now. But it will give me another month to prepare myself. Mentally I am ready as I will ever be. If I could go in today I would lol. But, I'll wait it out. I just hope they can get me in sooner if they have a cancellation. But we will see.....

Ok, so I went for my counsult today. I am very comfortable with the Dr. He is very nice and genuine. He remembered that I was in last year, but had to have another look and said nothing has changed so it is a go! I am sooooo excited today! I went in nervous because this is something I have debated, but he and his nurse put me at ease. I immediately went and scheduled my procedure and gave my deposit ($600). I received my quote ($8300). I initially scheduled for 8/28/2012 but later realized that my son's school starts the 27th so called back to schedule the earlier date of the 17th! It's not even a month away! I am soooo happy. My mom is coming to help out with the kids even though they are older (10 and 17) but she will take me to my surgery and cook for the kids and all of that good stuff. I have asked her to stay a minimum of 3 days as my kids are old enough to help out. I am just worried about Monday when my daughter has school. Will I be ok to drive and get out or am I to be in bed and only walking around in the house? If my mom is gone I do have a friend that may be able to help out. Oh, and the doc said there is a new injectable pain med that lasts 72 hours and numbs the area significantly. He said it is an extra $300 but alleviates the need for the other pain meds which have a tendency to cause nausea and dizziness. I did give a $600 deposit and was approved for the Care Credit for $8300, so I think it is probably worth it to spend that. Has anyone tried this? I will be posting photos later of how I look now. I can't tell you how excited I will be to buy a bikini without a ruffle on the bottoms that has to cover my pooch! Or a fitted dress, or to be able to wear a high waisted pencil skirt and tuck a blouse in! Anyway, I have to get up the courage to post these pics. Just to give you an idea I am 5'7" and 170. I am Mediterranean so we tend to have large butts and that I do. But I am ok with that! Ok, just if anyone could give me input about that injection I mentioned above and/or any other advice! Thanks

Feeling excited after my pre-op 8/2 on Thursday ). I have my moments of anxiousness, but I am overall excited. I was given a shopping list and they called in prescriptions for muscle relaxers (because of the tightening of the muscle in my abdomen) and also pain meds. I am getting an injection that lasts 72 hours that is said to significantly dull the pain for those 3 days. It is an extra $300 but came hightly recommended. It not only dulls the pain some, but obviously reduces the amount of pain meds needed. So less pain meds = less nausea and less constipation hopefully. I also was advised of all of the do's and don'ts before and after surgery. No ibuprofin 2 weeks prior, but Tylenol is ok. Start using an anti-bacterial soap. Shower the night before and morning of and to wash my hair that morning of the surgery. I have a list of foods recommended afterwards plus instructions to drink, drink, drink to flush out the anesthesia. They said straws help, so I will buy some straws lol. But overall, as I said, I am so excited and just stay optomistic and visualizing myself flat! I think this will be great motivation for me to go to the gym more and work on the rest of me. I am overall not fat, and I am curvy, but my belly doesn't respond to exercise and it is so frustrating. So once the doc says it is ok, I'll be back at the gym 5-6 days a week again. I go 3-4 now, but, as I said, this will be great motivation! So any advice anyone has?

Got a few items today from the pharmacy. I got a muscle relaxer, suppositories ( ugh), and one other rx they called in. I still need to fill the percocet. Bought some liquid Dial anti-bacterial soap, peroxide, and tylenol. Ordered some arnica montana topical and oral supplements on Ebay, it is said to work wonders on bruising. Still have to stock up on bottled H2O, straws, crystal light, pudding, applesauce and clear sodas and crackers and stuff. I guess I will do a little each day to keep myself motivated and excited.

sleepless night last night! Anxious and nervous! I will hopefully sleep well tonight since I didn't last night. I have been eating more fiber than usual to help with the constipation later on. Raisin bran, oatmeal, etc. and it caught up with me today at work, lol. Does anyone recommend a higher than usual fiber diet prior to the surgery??

I finally got up the courage to post my photos. I figure it is only fair, lol. This is really difficult for me as I spend so much time trying to hide it. The doctor had to tell me so many times to stop sucking it it as he looked and when they took photos. So for me to post these pics is way out of my comfort zone, but we are all here to share, so I will too. So I have less than a week before I go for my surgery. I finally got the rest of my supplies (Palmers vitamin e oil, laxatives, milk of magnesia, all Rx, multi vitamin for 2 weeks post op, Bromeline, arnica lotion and arnica tablets, there is a brand in the hispanic section of Wal mart called BIMBO, they even have one with double fiber if you need it), 7 up, gingerale, pudding, applesauce, life savers and gum, dry toast (today for afterward. I just need to RENT a recliner since I do not have one. I guess I'll use Rent a center or Aarons since they rent by the week. From what I have read, they are a must have. I also went to Lowes and purchased a plastic outside type chair (under $10) that fits nicely in the shower. No need to buy a shower seat at a great expense from a medical supply store or specialty bath store even. I am becoming less stressed and more excited each day. I took my kids school shopping today and didn't find myself only looking at clothing that will hide my belly. I didn't buy anything, but before I decided to do this, I wouldn't even look at certain styles. I just can't wait til this is over and I am recovered so I can finally be my old self again! OK, so here are the before pics:

I am at 6 weeks now. My doc cleared me for anything at this point. I went back to the gym yesterday. I am starting off slowly, just a bit on the treadmill and some leg work. He said I still have some swelling, but am doing well. My clothes are fitting better and better each day. I just want to say that I am so greatful for this website...it gave me the motivation to stop dreaming about a tummy tuck and to just go for it. Overall, it was not half as bad as I anticipated. This site helped a great deal. I literally called to book my consult the first Monday after I found this site and booked my surgery that day. My doctor and his staff were very encouraging and supportive too. Thank you to everyone on here.

I am 4 months post op now. I went for another post op appt today. My scar is thick and raised. My doc said it is genetics and there isn't much that can be done. :( I asked him about getting a tattoo to cover the scar later and he said a lot of people do that, but I'll need to wait 18 mos from the time of the surgery. I am pretty much ok with it because who knows, maybe the scar will fade by then to the point where I don't feel the need to tattoo it. I do not have one tattoo on my body, but in this case, I would consider getting one... I mean an ugly scar versus a tattoo? I would opt in for a tattoo!! We also discussed my "love handles" which are ever so noticeable. From what I have read on here, they are just more noticable now that my belly is flat. I am not happy with them so we discussed a revision. Lipo is an option, smart lipo is an option, and excising the flanks with lipo is an option...the last one being the one that would be the best so there is comp;ete removal of the skin. Lipo will be good, excising the skin and lipo...better. He did assure me that it is not nearly as bad (downtime and recovery wise) as the TT. I also have the option of doing either procedure under local anesthesia rather that going under general again. I am going to sleep on it for a day or two, but will most likely do it. I feel I spent so much on the TT and I am so happy with my side view as I am completely flat, but from the front view, I see those bulges. They are NOT dog ears, but just kind of a little roll/bulge which is worse when I sit or wear tight jeans. Ir is pretty much a muffin top, lol. Since hte surgery we have discussed is not so major as the TT, I can get by on my own. My daughter was a big help...she just turned 18, so I should be fine. I feel guilty spending more money on myself, but I have already spent over $8000 on the TT, another $3k is a lot too, but I will be happier with the overall result and if I am 100% happy, it is worth it to me.

Well I've decided to get the lipo done on my flanks. Lipo was more affordable than the excision AND lipo and I'm already feeling bad/guilty about sodding so much on the TT. And now another $3k, but...I have to be 100% happy or it was a waste. I'm not getting general anesthesia so that saved me almost $800. Plus I don't want to be asleep and deal with all of that anesthesia crap again. I heard of so many physicians who use local. I just hope the lipo does enough without the excision!!! Anyway I'm set up for February 1 at 1:00 pm. It takes about 1.5 hours and I can drive myself. No pre op needed because I'm not going under. I got 18 months interest free on my care credit and an increase in my credit line. I look at it as a few extra payments to zero it out. This entire ordeal (TT and now this lipo) is my gift/reward to myself for putting up with an asshole "husband" for 13 years. I worked really hard to help him grow his business and am now stuck doing everything on my own. I never asked him for a thing. So I'm getting what I always wanted but couldn't because he wouldn't let me. Even if I had financed it and paid it on my own, he would have NEVER givens the time off, let alone help me through it. And now that I am getting a revision...oh boy! He'd be telling me how "I'm ungrateful, never happy, etc". But, enough about that jerk off. I'm just happy I'm doing what I want for once in my life. And I want this to be worth it. Any helpful tips regarding lipo will be very much appreciated!! Thanks

almost two years after my tummy tuck...I have made several lifestyle changes. Going to the gym at least 5 days a week and different diet. I am so grateful that I was able to do this and I want to keep up with it. I feel like this surgery gave me the motivation to get fit and live healthy. I am now the big 40 since June so I want to continue to be healthy and of course maintain my figure.
Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon

I found this provider on a website pertaining to plastic/cosmetic surgery. After the first consult, I knew this was the doctor I wanted as I was very comfortable with him and his staff. He is truly genuine and has a great bedside manner. I never had any pressure to commit, in fact I waited a year after my first consult. Even the second consult was never high pressure. I am also going to post some more pics.

I am sore sore and swollen. Just trying to get through it. But I had 4000CC removed so that s alot. I had PAL lipo and he did my whole back, whole abs and inner thighs...ugh I know its a drastic change but everything hurts right now and stiff

Believenow, I'm right there with you! It's been hard. All I can say is that we better look good in a few months! Atleast your recovering somewhere warm and not in Va. where its 25 degrees :)

I did not mind the local. I could feel a bit of burning and feel the tube in my flanks moving but nothing that had me jumping off the table. I was going thru a hard time personally so I probably could not feel much pain lol

BTW i had lipo of the flanks 7 weeks ago. I am 1yr 2 mts PO tummy tuck! The lipo of the flanks was the next best thing to the tummy that ive ever done in my life...you can see before and after pics on my profile!! Good luck!

My doc suggested lipo and excision of the flanks. I really want it fixed but I don't know if l need excision or if lipo will make me happy enough. Did you get local anesthesia or general? I've heard that for just lipo general is not necessary. I'm going to look at your pics and check out the lipo u had. Plus I wanna see your scar. Thanks for commenting, I may have some more questions for u if you don't mind ;)

I had local anesthesia. It was a breeze after the numbing shots (which sting pretty bad) was finished. Feel free to ask me anything!!!

Thank you for replying. Ok so I think I want to go with local. I don't want to be sedated again. I think I'm going to go for it. And one more question...did you have regular or smart lipo?

The local is well worth it! I was able to drive that same day if i wanted, there was no down time. I had smart lipo!!!

You look really good! try asking your PS abt steroid injections in your incision line to flatten it out! My scar is raised in areas and my PS is supposed to do the shots in Jan. I already had it done to the hypotropic scar around my bellybutton and it turned out nice and flat! Check my pics and see for yourself! I too plan to get a tattoo real soon so i wanted my scar flat so the tattoo could be done correctly! Good luck and happy healing!!

I just found your post tonight and it's been fun reading about your progress. I had my TT the same day you did! You brought back lots of memories, lol. I'm feeling so much better now that it's almost hard to remember how bad the first days were. I was surprised that my clothes weren't looser the first time I started trying things on because my stomach was obviously flatter even the day after surgery. Things are all starting to be looser now and it's exciting to read postings from others saying the swelling will continue to go down for months. Yippee, that will be fun. I've already done some shopping and gotten some dresses that are fitted through the middle that I never would have dreamt of wearing before. I have one that I even bought in two sizes since it's hard to predict how small I'll get. I figured I could return one. I too spend an untold amount of time looking for clothes to hide my bulging, sagging, tummy. It's so nice to put on clothes now and see my flat stomach. I hope things are still going well for you. I'm so glad I finally did it after years of longing for it. My only frustration now is the lack of energy, but I know that will improve too with time. Remember to keep taking good care of yourself!

Thank you for the response. Swelling is definitely a downer :( Mine is improving. I went to another post op last week and he said I probably still have swelling there. I was concerned about my sides. I may need to do a bit more lipo there. Going bac in December to see if it is necessary or not. I really don't want to spend more money and deal with more down time, but it is supposed to be wayyyy less downtime than a tt. Overall my tt wasn't bad...not as bad as I anticipated, so we shall see. I feel like I have already spent so much and dealt with it, I have to be 100% happy. So if it means a bit more $ and a minor lipo than so be it I guess. I still have little love handles. He said it was always there but it more noticable now with the flat belly. Makes sense, but I wish it could have been taken care of with the tt. But....

Finally! The swelling in my waistline seems to be subsiding a bit. I was able to get my pre-op pants and skirts buttoned again! I was like"WTH"!!! I still have a ways to go because being that my belly is smaller now, the pants should fir looser than they did before the TT and last night I was trying stuff on and they were fitting back to how they did before. So definitely still dealing with some swelling but it is much better, thank G-d.

3 weeks post op tomorrow. still have swelling above my incision. Incision is itchy and drain sites kind of hurt sometimes. I feel completely ok to do housework, laundry, grocery shopping etc. Mornings are still the worst part of the day. I am tired by days end so ususally go to bed early. I have a post op appt the 22 I believe. I will have to address this swelling with my p.s. If it is not swelling I am asking for a revision or cool sculpting, smart lipo...something. I want to be 100% happy with this surgery.

23 days post op: feeling pretty much back to my old self. I still wear the binder 24/7. At night before bed and in the morning is when I feel kind of sore or uncomfortable. My bandages came off in the shower. My incision isn't that bad! Using palmers cocoa butter with vitamin e on it. It's kinda itchy at times. My bb looks good. A little scabby but good. Still swelling is an issue. Bought a fitted dress for the office that I would have never bought on a million years BEFORE the tt, it looks amazing on (with the swelling and all lol). Overall I feel great. Still numb in some areas. Not bothersome though. I want to take the kids swimming or to the beach so I will need to ask my doc Monday.

2 weeks post op:
Yesterday was my 2 week mark. Still dealing with swelling. Have yet to see my incision as the original " tape" is still intact. Numbness feels like a sunburn. Tight feeling all over. Definitely can feel the difference when I eat. We ate at ihop last night and I ordered my usual breakfast and suffered all night. Just too full. Plus with the spanx and binder on...whew, I was very uncomfortable. Not going to do that again. I am mostly trying to eat healthy yet not deprive myself. I can't wait to be able to work out again!! But mostly I am most excited to see my results once the swell hell subsides. About 6 weeks is what I'm hearing. Well wanted to post a quick update! Hope everyone is well. For those of you contemplating this, I say go for it! This site is very helpful and gave me the motivation and confidence to just go ahead with it!
