I am a 29 year old female. At the age of 19 I had an exploratory abd. surgery done when I was 17 weeks preg and a 19lbs ovarian mass was found. I was cut from my xiphoid process to pubic symphis. I have had 3 children all via c-section with use of the vertical scar. I have always wanted a scar revision after many years of debate I am scheduled to have it along with a tummy tuck and lipo of the flanks. I am excited since I have had this scar for 10 years but uncertain if I will be happy and have unrealistic expectations. I would like to be able to wear a bathing suit without being self conscious and people approaching me and asking about why I have the horrific scar. I will always have the vertical scar but hope for extreme improvement of my abd area.

Tomorrows the big day! Doesn't feel real yet.

Thought I'd share some post opt pics-2days out now. Pain is still pretty bad. They liposuctioned 5lbs off my flank and hip area. With diet and exercise I could never get this area improved. My scar was reconstructed which was my main purpose in getting this done. I am really swollen but seems that my vertical incision will lay flat now cause before my extra skin would buldge around it. Hoping as time goes on I am more satisfied as swelling decreases.

Day 3 Post Opt- I feel like I am getting around better. I think though that my swelling has increased. My abdominal binder seems to be way tighter and unable to get comfortable in it. I have kept a strict diet of high fiber and lots of liquids because I don't want to put a lot of strain on my abd area to have a bowel movement. I remember when I had my tumor removal 9 years ago this was a big issue post opt and don't want to relive that. Hopefully the swelling will start to subside so I can get comfortable in this binder cause I am stuck with if for a month.

Well up until the last couple days all has been going well. But I started to notice my left side seemed swollen and an increase of pain. I still have my jp drains and my output is around 25 ml/24 hours bilaterally. On my left side it has started to weep fluid, like it was first doing post opt. Being a Rn I'm sure I have a seroma:( and plan to see my doc tomorrow. Anyone else have this complication? How long did it take to get cleared up?

Today I'm 2 weeks post opt. I still have both of my drains in and dealing with swelling issues. Seems to alternate back and forth.from one side one day then a few days later the other. My out put has also increased to 50 cc/24 hrs. I go back to the plastic surgeon tomorrow. Thank goodness.

I went and saw my PS today and I have a wound infection :( even though I'm happy with my results seems like its all better sweet with lots of the issues I have been having. And still have in the drains which is good cause I'm putting out 75 ml/ 24 hours on my right side so its helping with the increased.swelling from the infection. But hoped for a better recovery. I miss feeling well and interacting with my kids :(

I hope you're able to get the results you're hoping for with your tummy tuck! Do you have a board certified surgeon you trust?

Me and you are same day/recovery! I'm day 2 post op. Things are OK. Drains are so annoying and my back hurts from walking hunched over. Are ou nervous about clots? I am, my dr told me i shouldnt be, but I still am. I'm trying to get around and walk as much as I can in between naps!! When are you going back to work?
wichita1314 18 Mar 2011
I am a RN so I've seen clots post opt. I have prepared by wearing ted hose and keeping ambulatory. I think if you get you a pair it might ease some of your worries. And yea my back is so sore. I work in the nights in ER and I have taken off 3 weeks for sure but not real certain on when I will go back. One good thing is I work with a lot of guys so they usually do all the lifting. So I'm hoping I start coming around soon. I feel though like my stomach is real tight and if I wanted to stand up straight I couldn't...Are you like that?

Congratulations girl you look wonderful! The first 2 weeks are the hardest and then you will feel much better. ;) I am a nurse as well and it has been 6 weeks since my surgery and thank god I work PRN and make my own schedule because honestly I don't feel like I would want to go back yet. i feel great but I'm still swelling and have to wear my binder, that's the only thing bothering me now. The tightness and not being able to stand up straight disappears after about the 2 week mark, so keep your head up, it doesn't last long! That was honestly the worst part of it all to me, was not being able to stand up straight, so I know what you mean! So glad for you all is well, you are going to look amazing. ;)

Thank you :) yea 1 week in and hoping the next week flies by because I'm sick of not being myself and getting around. I always wore binders with my other surgeries and usually felt they helped a lot but this round I'm fighting to keep it on :( I think my torso is to short so its always bunching up on my vertical midline incision causing discomfort. The last couple days have really kind of got to me though, I'd be somewhat better by now.

Aww love the new pics..ur sooooo tiny!!!
wichita1314 29 Mar 2011
Thanks lady... Still have lots of swelling :( even to the point of being uncomfortable to walk sometimes so hope the results will continue to improve. From the sounds of it we are both smaller sized gals so I think with are good BMI to start with and dedication it sure helped contribute to our results :)
