I was always a very skinny kid, with the exception...

I was always a very skinny kid, with the exception of a "pooch" just below my bellybutton. With age, it got bigger and I got love handles and minor bra rolls. And I'm sick of it! So I'm taking the plunge and getting it all sucked out. :) I hate trying on clothes because everything clings to my middle and it's so depressing. And I can't possibly order clothes because the sizing chart says my chest and hips are a medium and my waist is an extra-large! My current measurements are approximately 39-35-39 (I don't take my measurements often) and I weigh 148. I've never had kids so I'm hoping my stomach skin will shrink and not look all dimpled and droopy after the fat comes out. I'm also hoping that this will kick-start a fitness craze for me. In the past, no amount of proper diet and exercise helped me to look better. If I lost any weight (which I didn't really), it came out of my boobs! And who wants that? :D

I've had my initial consultation and my plastic surgeon feels that my side skin is very elastic but the stomach skin less so, although I have the no kids, no smoking, no tanning stuff on my side. Even if it does end up dimply that's better than what I have now. I want to dress nice! And I don't go to the beach, so wearing a bikini isn't a factor. Only my husband would see the dimples and uneven stomach skin, and that wouldn't be often--I can hide that! I'm going in today for my pre-surgery consult so we can discuss specifics and I can ask my many, many questions. My surgery is scheduled for November 25--only 11 days away! I'm super excited and only a little nervous, because I know it will have to be better than it is now.

I'm going to have the doctor's office email me the before surgery photos and I'll upload them later.

Price adjustment

My previous cost didn't include the bra roll/upper back lipo, so we added that to the procedure, and the new cost is $4600. Totally worth it in my book! I'll add more details about today's pre-op appointment later.

Pre-Op Appointment and Adding Photos

I'm sorry it took a few days to get to my update on what we discussed at my appointment. I had so many questions for the doctor! I'll try to summarize.

First, I have to wear the compression garment for four weeks, at all times. I asked if I should get a second c.g. to wear while I wash the other, but he said it wasn't that important, that a few hours of wash and dry time wouldn't cause a problem. If necessary, I can wear my Spanx.

I asked about my expected results and he says he thinks I'll be very pleased. He thinks my skin will "shrink" and not hang all flabby like I was worried. Because I haven't had kids, I don't have stretch marks, and that's a good sign. Of course, it will take time, but it will happen, and that's what I care about.

I asked about what I could do to minimize swelling, and he said basically just make sure that I wear the c.g. consistently and not take if off too often or go without. Basically wear it unless I'm in the shower. Also, taking anti-inflammatories will help a little.

He told me not to exercise at all for the first month. I'm hoping to start working out as soon as I can afterward though, maybe be nice and toned by spring.

The scars from the cannula will be tiny, 1/2" or less, and will only require a few stitches. There will be two, possibly three, in the front. Those are for the lipo of the stomach and flanks. If he can't reach all of the upper abdomen with the two, he'll need to go in through the bellybutton, too. Then there will also be two scars on the back for the bra rolls.

Most of my other questions were about side effects I've read about on here, those one-in-a-million things that he told me not to worry about. He said the pain will only be bad for 24-48 hours and that going back to work on the following Monday shouldn't be a problem (I have a desk job). One of the ladies that work in his office had lipo from him a few years ago, and she said it was only like having a bad sunburn. I can handle that.

BTW, originally I considered Smart Lipo, but the local doctor that does it is a dermatologist. Seriously? Going to a dermatologist that has taken a few classes on lipo is like going to a cardiologist that took a class on skin care to cure your acne. Plastic surgeons go to school to learn about the specifics of all the various surgeries, the physical, how to see what can be done, contouring, all that stuff. Doctors that aren't certified in plastic surgery shouldn't be allowed to practice it, just as other doctors shouldn't be allowed to stray from their specialization. Anyway, I decided to go with regular, old-school lipo because I won't need to be out of work that long (especially scheduling for just before Thanksgiving) and the price actually turns out to be cheaper, partially because I'm a return client.

So, that's everything I can think of for now. This time next week, I'll be home and anxious to see how much fat is gone!

Here are my before pics. YUCK!
