I just had my surgery 3 weeks ago today with Dr. Somenek and could not be happier! This is a little lengthy of a review, but because people have to know how great he truly is!!
So, like many people considering a rhinoplasty, I was never fully happy about my nose. Anytime there was a photo taken of me I would always have the person take a few others so that I could have a few options to choose from and let them keep. As I got older, I learned why some pictures looked better than others, and would have to hit just the right angle in order for it to look good in the photo. But videos, or candid photos -- forget it, they were never flattering, at ALL. Even though I wasn't happy with it, I learned to deal with it, and even though thinking of how I would look after a nose job always seemed nice, it wasn't worth it to go through major surgery.
Fast forward a couple years, and I found I was always so out of breath after exercise, and I would always drool on myself while I slept. I went to a doctor and found out about my deviated septum and that I would need surgery to correct it. I spoke with a few people I knew, and was referred to Dr. Ruff's office in DC. I scheduled a consultation, told him about my issues, and then suddenly he told me he had just hired a new doctor who specialized in both the medical and cosmetic procedures for noses.
Enter Dr. Somenek. At first I was a little surprised since I had come to Dr. Ruff initially and didn't know who this new doctor was, but Dr. Somenek was the BEST. I immediately felt so comfortable with him. I didn't know exactly how to explain what I wanted my nose to look like other than "without a hump", but in less than 30 seconds he was able to tell me exactly what he could do for me. Trust was never an issue, so I just put my faith into his hands and booked the surgery that day for a few weeks later.
The surgery went so incredibly well. All of a sudden the anesthesia put me out, and then next thing I know I'm being told it's over. After the surgery that night, I had bumped my nose and was so worried - my nose was very sensitive and I thought I might have ruined the surgery. Coincidentally, Dr. Somenek had called me just a few minutes after. He was checking in to see how I was doing and it couldn't have been better timing. He put me at ease, and saw him the next day to have my packing removed, and let me tell you, I have never breathed better in my life. I never knew nostrils were supposed to be so big!
I've had a couple other appointments with Dr. Somenek since then, including one today for my 3 week check up, but I spoke with him even more than that. Anytime I had a concern (I was hit in the nose accidentally by my nephew), the office was readily available for me to come in to have it checked out, or Dr. Somenek came to the phone and was able to talk me through it. Today at my follow-up, he had photos taken and showed me before and after profile shots. My nose looked EXACTLY like the imaging he had walked be through before the surgery.
My nose could not have come out better than it did with Dr. Somenek. I wanted my nose to be different but didn't want to be unrecognizable. The changes he made were subtle enough that people who didn't know I had the procedure didn't realize until I told them, and those who did know were so impressed by the remarkable results. I didn't bruise at all, I healed really well, and two days after removing the cast (even with swelling) my nose looked amazing. I'm so happy with the results, and thankful I trusted him. All I told him was to take the hump away, but he also noticed features that he told me would be changed in the surgery that I wasn't aware of. I never would have though those changes would make such a difference.
To sum it all up - I am THRILLED with my results, and it's only 3 weeks after my surgery! Dr. Somenek said it will only continue to look better as I'm still a little swollen. He made himself so available to me, his staff is so accommodating, and he is such a talented surgeon. He really did change my life, and cannot express enough how great a doctor he is.
