WORTH IT
I have been reading here for DAYS! I am having my upper lids done as they are so hooded they are affecting my eyesight, give me headaches, and luckily my insurance will cover it. I think the more I read, sometimes I get excited, and sometimes I get scared. I am 56 years old and not sure what all to expect. How soon do the sutures normally come out? What's the most painful part of the procedure? How long does it take just for the upper lids? General idea of how long it will take me to drive safely? Any and all information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I had to reschedule my first appointment as I ended up with bronchitis.............. or it would be 2 weeks post op by now :( There's so much information here, and so many pictures, I guess everyone is different. Just a tad nervous in VA!

I hope all went well and you are recovering fabulously! I go in tomorrow and I am nervous. Hoping for so many good things and terrified of making worse and saying I chose to do it to myself. Update when you can see again lol.

Phaedra1964, all went great. I can see briefly this afternoon after my frozen peas come off. The only thing that hurt was they had to stick me 3 times for the IV :/ I told her my left arm was not that great, but she said the anesthesiologist preferred the left. It didn't work. So she went for the right arm at the crease of my elbow. It continued to hurt for about 10 minutes until the nurse came in to put in the pain and anxiety med, and I told her. She checked it and said it wasn't right. So she put it down my arm near my wrist and all was good! They had told me that I would be awake, hear them talking and be able to talk back but in the Twilight Zone. Didn't happen that way. They actually put me under which I was terrified because I've never been put under before. They wheeled me down, gave me those shots in the IV, I was looking up at the big round lights, and asked them to please change the radio station............. lol. That's the last thing I remembered until I woke up hearing those around me, but couldn't see due to ice bags on my eyes. I'm told it took 45 minutes. So............ other than the mishap with the IV, I did not feel one bit of pain, and everyone was so nice. I go back for post-op tomorrow at 1. Eyes feel a little sore and blurry, but all is okay for about 10 minutes after removing ice. Although I know bruising and swelling is still to come, I am already thrilled with what I see. For the first time in I don't know long, I can see my eye lids.............. and there is no more big huge puff laying on top of them!! I will post before and today pictures later!! You are doing what yourself? If you are saying taking care of yourself the first two days, no ma'am.............. I'm very independent and don't like to be hovered over, but no way I could've done things for myself. They say only get up to go the bathroom, and that's all I've done. Please don't try to do it all yourself the first 2 days if you have someone! Will upload pictures later.......... and each day............. and good luck to you! Will be looking for your update! Do not be nervous :)

How did it go? I had my post-op appointment today. Dr. Beardon was thrilled that my swelling and bruising thus far is at a minimum. I got absolutely NO sleep last night on my back propped on pillows. One more night of that! I have eye shields to wear starting tomorrow night and can return to my bed and sleep on my side and SLEEP! I have found that having a humidifer close to your head helps put moisture in your eyes. Soon as I left this room today for my appointment, stepped outside and felt I had gravel in my eyes. I will be carrying my eye drops with me every where I go for awhile! And the humidifier always in my bedroom at night. My eyes felt awesome tonight and I only iced them 3 times during the night. Tonight, no icing during the night. YAY! Starting tomorrow I put warm rice socks on them several times a day for the next 3 weeks. I can drive tomorrow!! I'm adding a picture from this morning. I have a before picture and a picture from the day after surgery, but need to get them off my phone. I'm just thrilled to actually see eyelids and flat skin under my eyebrows!!

Thank you! Not sure what the posting of sequential pictures are, so I'm using the "update your review"? Is there another way. This morning started off rough. Seemed to have more bruising and swelling and the ointment made it all look like the Rocky Horror Show. Started using the microwaved rice socks today, and the next photo is from the end of Day 3. Will be super glad when all is healed. I don't have a lot of patience, and I know I should be thrilled that my whole face is not black and blue!

I'm glad you had great results with Dr. Bearden. My eye doctor, who is also an associate of Dr. Bearden sent me to him for a consultation visit. He was not interested in my case at all. He was not only short with me, he was arrogant and a bit cocky. I would not recommend him to anyone!
