When I found out I was going to have a hysterectomy, I decided to go ahead with the tummy tuck. It's been a hard year personally and with my 50th just a week before the surgery it is my present to myself. I am nervous and excited. Knowing that my family and I are going to Mexico 7 weeks after the surgery is making me nervous. But the vacation had been planned before I knew about the hysterectomy and my family really needs together time. My surgeons are co-coordinating everything and don't seem to be concerned about recovery. I am taking a full 2 weeks off of work and if I have too I can take a month. My job is mainly sitting and working at a computer at home so my hours are my own. In the meantime, I am focusing on getting in shape, I'm doing weight watchers to change my eating habits, hiking once or twice a week, working out with a trainer twice a week and doing yoga. I'm trying to strengthen my core and loss some weight in the hopes that recovery will be easier. counting down!

Welcome to the community.   I just turned 50 myself and so far so good:)

If you can take 3-4 weeks off please do.  You are going to need this recovery time and will be glad you had it.  Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Glad your doing well. Thanks for the advice. If I'm not feeling well after the 2 weeks I will. I am an artist and do watercolors for real estate agents. It is not physically taxing and I don't even have to the leave my house.

4.5 weeks post op hysterectomy and tummy tuck

jeannanelis
Just wanted to make a quick update. It has been 4.5 weeks since my tummy tuck and full hysterectomy. The hysterectomy took a lot longer due to some complications and my overnight stay in the hospital turned out to be five days due to nausea and blood loss. The tummy tuck almost didn't happen. I had left it up to my doctors to make the call if the hysterectomy got a little wonky. I really took it easy for three weeks and had a lot of help from my mother and sister. I still rest when I have to and get tired when traveling outside the house. The tummy tuck looks great. There is a lot of swelling in my upper abdomen, (looks like a spare tire by the end of the day) but I keep telling myself that patience is a virtue. I'm currently wearing a Maidenform compression t-shirt that goes over my hips and seems to be working well. At night I still wear my binder. Yesterday I went for a message. Stayed on my back but really felt great afterwards. So great I booked another appointment! In 2 weeks we travel to Alabama to bring my son to college orientation and then a few days later are off to Mexico for a week. I decided to play it by ear for the activities I originally had planned for that trip. I am thinking that the ATV's and hummer ride through the jungle may be out, but I'm hoping for the best. If you decide to do a hysterectomy and tummy tuck at the same time, please please give yourself plenty of time to heal. I am still bleeding from the hysterectomy and think that healing time is longer than just if you had one procedure. Having said that I would do it again in a heart beat.

Are you happy with how it all turned out, you haven't posted since June? Are those your before & after pics in the upper right corner? I'm so worried that mine is too bad to really see good results.
