Ello :) Cant believe I am finally on the other end of a RealSelf review, I have been reading these pages and reviews for years.. always wishing that one day it would be me!
Last year I had made a promise to myself that if I could receive a scholarship for university that I would finally commit to living out my dream of having a perfect smile (well.. almost perfect)!
Growing up with an extreme overbite and increasingly crooked teeth as I grew through the teen years (which resulted in an awkward smile) it has always been my fatal flaw.. My most self-conscious part.
Which is a shame because I do really love to Laugh and Smile :D
So it wasn't until I was so blessed to receive my scholarship that I got searching for a provider.
Initially I was going to purchase a deal off 'Groupon' for only $4500 for a General Dentist, but looking back I can see that would of been a HUGE mistake- as my case turned out to be a of a greater complexity than I though. And the reviews didn't turn out that great anyway..
Eventually I booked a free consult with MySmile Ortho and it has been such a great start. The initial consult was very informative and up front- all things from the cost, the process (although sadly I already knew the gig back-to-fronts) and the duration of treatment was explained, even the need to remove my top wisdom teeth (ahh.. much to my disgust!)
Then a had to come back for the scanning, which I was surprised to find it wasn't the clay impressions like the other reviews I have read. This scanner took 3D pictures of my teeth and bite- was over in less than half an hour! My only beef with it is that it dries your mouth out alot- But it was really cool watching a 3D image of my teeth gradually appear on the screen.
The main concert turned out to be my overbite which will take a majority of the estimated 18-20 months to fix- and will be using elastics, buttons and something called the G5...
The down payment is paid, and I am on a very helpful payment plan..
So now..
I wait. 4-6 weeks for my aligners. Its been like 3 weeks so far & it seems to be the longest wait ever. I guess I am just so exited! Although I need to get my wisdoms extracted before I can use the aligners :-/ #procrastination
Here are some photo's of my teeth Pre-Invisalign. Its strange how I even feel self-conscious putting them up..
Let the journey begin! :D

Save The Date: Au Revoir my wisdoms
agnes966666March 31, 2015
So the date for my wisdom extraction is set.
Next Tuesday (the 7th)- which luckily I have the week off for easter break, so I guess Ill just have to get a few seasons of Downton Abbey and enough bananas so I can drown my sorrows in a few days worth of smoothies.
It will be 'In Chair' and my first dental procedure that wasn't a routine clean and polish.. (Hence I still have an immense and devoted love of the dentists- no joke).
But if I was to be honest with you, all I am afraid about is the needle.
Needles: My one and only irrational fear, but I could not even begin to comprehend a needle in the mouth!!
So I am hoping with all my heart that I will be allowed to be gassed before the local A.
People have said it was the sound of the procedure that made it unpleasant.. and just to keep your mind on other things. But I don't know about you- but staring up at that big round dentists light doesn't exactly allow my mind to wander :)
I was thinking of taking in some music/headphones? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Ah, the things we so for that smile! :D
P.s I am hoping to post a picture of my face all swollen and attractive, so stay tuned!

I just had one upper wisdom tooth and left first bicuspid extracted yesterday! The needle was a slight pinch (little to no pain) even though they had to poke a few times all around my gums. The wisdom tooth extraction wasn't bad at all - it took less than 5 minutes for me, so I'm sure yours will be equally manageable :) Compared to the bicuspid extraction (which took about 10 minutes), I didn't hear any cracking noise when the wisdom tooth was being pulled. No swelling whatsoever either. Best of luck to you!
April 1, 2015
Thats really encouraging, thanks! I hope my extraction is as smooth sailing as yours :)

You're braver than me, I opted to have my wisdom teeth removed while I was knocked out under GA! Thankfully I had no swelling or bruising at all and was OK to go back to work 2 days later. Good luck with your Invisalign journey! Are you using the Acceledent at all to speed up the process?
April 6, 2015
Thankyou!! Haven't really looked into Acceledent, it seems like a good idea.. but it just seems so very expensive! What about yourself?

April 7, 2015
I'm using it. Was expensive at about $1000 but to me it's worth it or my treatment could be up to 3 years. Plus it does seem to help reduce pain when you change to a new tray.

April 8, 2015
My treatment can apparently go for 2 years, so maybe it would be a good investment.. now I just need a generous investor! :)

April 9, 2015
I bought my acceledent really cheap ($200) from a friend who had already finished her treatment, and I can buy a new mouthpiece from my ortho for $105. Perhaps you could take a look on eBay or mention you're looking to buy one second hand in one of your next posts? Maybe someone is willing to sell you theirs if they no longer need it?
April 9, 2015
Thats a great idea :D I will do that.. had a look on eBay and they are going for around $600, which is alot better than the full $1200

April 7, 2015
How are you feeling after your extractions yesterday? Hopefully all went well and you are recovering nicely. Keep on top of the pain and you'll be fine! Looking forward to following your journey. I had all of my wisdom teeth removed in October and am waiting for my clincheck so I can go ahead with my aligners. Looks like we'll be starting around the same time!
April 9, 2015
All of them? Thats tough! My clincheck is being re-assessed so wont be here until the end of April, which will give me plenty of time to heal. Its strange my jaw feels like there is less pressure on it already :)

April 12, 2015
Yes all 4! But I totally know what you mean about it feeling like there's less pressure! Mine felt like that too! I was told 4-6 weeks before I'd get my club check and I'm at the end of week 3 now. I'm so impatient haha! Looks like we'll be going through this at about the same time! Good luck with your journey and keep us posted!
UPDATED FROM agnes966666
Half the Wisdom, still none the wiser.
agnes966666April 8, 2015
So my top wisdoms were taken out yesterday in the chair.
And I survived :)
Fear One: The Anticipation
Having to hand in a uni assessment that morning helped me remain in complete denial right up until I was walking up the stairs to the dentist. On arrival the dentist's usual movie was playing in the waiting room, good old 'Find Nemo' to calm the nerves.
Fear Two: The needle.
My dentists put in some numbing gel before the injection which helped greatly! I had a squirt into my cheek area which I couldn't feel and one into the harder palate, which I reeeallllly felt.
I tried not to look at the needle but it was the biggest dang needle I've ever seen! Haha.. I was a great support and squeezed my own hand throughout it all. Which sadly defeats the purpose of 'hand squeezing' (i.e. converting your pain to another person :) )
It was relieving to feel my face feel heavier and tingly, but I got another needle just for reduced anxiety's sake. It did make me feel a little bit 'woozy' when my dentist was explaining the process to me in which I kindly responded to everything with a nod of my head or "A-huh" (Even though I didn't really hear a word)
Fear Two: The Pull
My X-ray showed a very uncomplicated process, yet my teeth had another plan in mind! First was the left side.. It took me a while to even realise he was pulling the tooth out, I thought he was still checking the area. That was until I felt the pressure, I knew it had begun. It took a bit of pulling and twisting, but before I knew it something had dropped in my mouth. My first wisdom tooth. At the time I had elected to keep it.. which I don't really know why! It isn't pretty.
And here I though, "hey.. that wasn't nice, but I could get through my second tooth." Oh a scale of 1-10 (1= This is fun, 10= I'm going to die) my cope-ability was about a 6
Take Two- The right tooth. This one was horrid unpleasant. My dentist pulled, twisted, yanked, pulled and it was hardly moving. My cope-ability was borderline 8/10. He reached for a bigger pulling tool. I closed my eyes before I saw it. Cope-ability reaching 8.5. I could really feel this, the pressure, the cracks, the snaps.. cope-ability borderline 9/10. All I could do was close my eyes, squeeze my own hand and imagine I was somewhere else. Strangely my happy place included swimming in the ocean- odd, but I guess it worked, cope-ability reduced to a stead 8/10.
Fear Three- The Recovery
Still happy and pain free from the local anaesthetic I went straight home with a gauze stuffed, puffy face and watched my long anticipated Downton Abbey marathon and ate a bit of crushed ice. It hurt to talk and open my mouth, so I layed low. Today wasn't that different, although my desire to eat was occasionally stronger than my desire to be pain free. But I generally stuck to soup, sorbet and custard.. so no complaints. (Cope-ability about a 3/10)
Still sore to touch and talk.
On the plus side: No wisdoms=More room for teeth= Straight teeth= Great smile :)
One bound closer to my Invisalign goal! Apparently I won't get my aligners until the end of this month, just in time for my birthday.
Ah, the things we so for that smile! :D
P.s I did intend to put up an ugly puffy post-extraction selfie, but the transformation wasn't that puffy. Instead.. here is the next best thing! :)
