~> Aligners are IN <~

So I got my aligners in two days ago and so far its been fairly smooth sailing!
I was very surprised with how lightweight they were, but the moment I put them in I felt that they were a force to be reckoned with. I could feel the pressure immediately.
It was so great seeing my clincheck and I still can't believe the final result will be my teeth!! (Which ill post when I get them emailed to me) I have an estimate of a shocking 58 TRAYS!!! Although depending on my progress this may change and the amount of time I have to wear each set may change. In my clincheck you can hardly tell anything is happening for ages and then BAMB it all comes together- Mainly because the first process of my treatment is fixing up my bite. Which is slightly annoying.. Ill get there slowly but surely...eventually! :)
I have been given three sets of trays now, and half way through my third set Ill get my attachments put on which, BONUS, are on my molars and not on my front teeth. So they shall hardly be seen :D hoorah!
Although I will be getting elastics, which will be seen if I open up my mouth wide enough! I still do not understand what elastics do with Invisalign, but happy to just embrace it ;)
I had to file my aligners down heaps! I am slightly OCD and every single rough edge or sharp section drove me crazy. Im guessing it was also getting used to the tray itself and the tooth soreness that came with it that didn't help my case!

Now I am about to share a story with you, as long as you don't tell my orthodontist!

DAY Two Invisalign: I was out at Bondi beach, sitting near the edge of a rock face appreciating the view after drinking my boost juice smoothie (Yum!) And after I did my dental hygiene I was putting my aligners back in. First tray in.. all is good. Go to put the second tray in and somehow I had bumped my aligner case. It slips. I attempt in what seemed like slow motion to grab it. It continues out of my reach. I know where this is heading. I grasp at empty air. And at that point all I can do is watch... as my precious blue case.. toppled right off the edge of the cliff.
My friend and I freeze. Her, being a dental technician also understood the implications of what had just taken place. Slowly we peep over the edge, and we see in the distance below us, the blue Invisalign case.
I look down at my bag and by a miracle my second tray had fallen into my bag!! :D Ah what a relieve.. So once the shock of it had all wore off I was able to climb down the rock face to retrieve my case, or should I say the pieces of it. Surprisingly it all popped together with very little collateral damage! I laugh at it now, but my clumsiness could of had horrible consequences!!! ;D Haha
Someone please tell me you've done something similar. What are your funny Invisalign horror stories? Id love to hear them!

Ah, the things we so for that smile! :D

Half the Wisdom, still none the wiser.

So my top wisdoms were taken out yesterday in the chair.
And I survived :)

Fear One: The Anticipation

Having to hand in a uni assessment that morning helped me remain in complete denial right up until I was walking up the stairs to the dentist. On arrival the dentist's usual movie was playing in the waiting room, good old 'Find Nemo' to calm the nerves.

Fear Two: The needle.

My dentists put in some numbing gel before the injection which helped greatly! I had a squirt into my cheek area which I couldn't feel and one into the harder palate, which I reeeallllly felt.
I tried not to look at the needle but it was the biggest dang needle I've ever seen! Haha.. I was a great support and squeezed my own hand throughout it all. Which sadly defeats the purpose of 'hand squeezing' (i.e. converting your pain to another person :) )
It was relieving to feel my face feel heavier and tingly, but I got another needle just for reduced anxiety's sake. It did make me feel a little bit 'woozy' when my dentist was explaining the process to me in which I kindly responded to everything with a nod of my head or "A-huh" (Even though I didn't really hear a word)

Fear Two: The Pull

My X-ray showed a very uncomplicated process, yet my teeth had another plan in mind! First was the left side.. It took me a while to even realise he was pulling the tooth out, I thought he was still checking the area. That was until I felt the pressure, I knew it had begun. It took a bit of pulling and twisting, but before I knew it something had dropped in my mouth. My first wisdom tooth. At the time I had elected to keep it.. which I don't really know why! It isn't pretty.
And here I though, "hey.. that wasn't nice, but I could get through my second tooth." Oh a scale of 1-10 (1= This is fun, 10= I'm going to die) my cope-ability was about a 6
Take Two- The right tooth. This one was horrid unpleasant. My dentist pulled, twisted, yanked, pulled and it was hardly moving. My cope-ability was borderline 8/10. He reached for a bigger pulling tool. I closed my eyes before I saw it. Cope-ability reaching 8.5. I could really feel this, the pressure, the cracks, the snaps.. cope-ability borderline 9/10. All I could do was close my eyes, squeeze my own hand and imagine I was somewhere else. Strangely my happy place included swimming in the ocean- odd, but I guess it worked, cope-ability reduced to a stead 8/10.

Fear Three- The Recovery

Still happy and pain free from the local anaesthetic I went straight home with a gauze stuffed, puffy face and watched my long anticipated Downton Abbey marathon and ate a bit of crushed ice. It hurt to talk and open my mouth, so I layed low. Today wasn't that different, although my desire to eat was occasionally stronger than my desire to be pain free. But I generally stuck to soup, sorbet and custard.. so no complaints. (Cope-ability about a 3/10)
Still sore to touch and talk.

On the plus side: No wisdoms=More room for teeth= Straight teeth= Great smile :)
One bound closer to my Invisalign goal! Apparently I won't get my aligners until the end of this month, just in time for my birthday.

Ah, the things we so for that smile! :D

P.s I did intend to put up an ugly puffy post-extraction selfie, but the transformation wasn't that puffy. Instead.. here is the next best thing! :)

Save The Date: Au Revoir my wisdoms

So the date for my wisdom extraction is set.
Next Tuesday (the 7th)- which luckily I have the week off for easter break, so I guess Ill just have to get a few seasons of Downton Abbey and enough bananas so I can drown my sorrows in a few days worth of smoothies.
It will be 'In Chair' and my first dental procedure that wasn't a routine clean and polish.. (Hence I still have an immense and devoted love of the dentists- no joke).
But if I was to be honest with you, all I am afraid about is the needle.
Needles: My one and only irrational fear, but I could not even begin to comprehend a needle in the mouth!!
So I am hoping with all my heart that I will be allowed to be gassed before the local A.
People have said it was the sound of the procedure that made it unpleasant.. and just to keep your mind on other things. But I don't know about you- but staring up at that big round dentists light doesn't exactly allow my mind to wander :)
I was thinking of taking in some music/headphones? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ah, the things we so for that smile! :D

P.s I am hoping to post a picture of my face all swollen and attractive, so stay tuned!
