Smart Lipo (Tumescent Lipo) on my Abs! The BEST Thing I've Ever Done!!!

Worth It
Spent: $6,000 in Oakbrook, IL

I had the Smart Lipo procedure about 2.5 weeks ago (upper and lower abs)... and it was the BEST thing I've ever done!

I'm petite and healthy (I'm just over 5 feet tall and weigh about 115 pounds), yet my entire life, I have ALWAYS struggled with extra fat in my stomach! No matter how much I work out, diet, etc... I've NEVER been able to have a flat stomach.

Over the past 10 years, I have had several consultations for Liposuction, however I have never been able to bring myself to do it.

I'm so glad I waited, because Smart Lipo is light years ahead of traditional liposuction!!!

First of all, I was AWAKE for the entire procedure (about 2 hours), but my stomach was numb, so I didn't feel it.

Second of all, a laser was used during the procedure. The dr. made tiny insicions (so little that I didn't even need one stitch!), and he put a fluid in my stomach, which helped to numb the area. Then he went in with a laser and melted all the fat. Then he sucked out all the fat. Then he went in again with the laser and TIGHTENED my skin!!! (Most women who do traditional Liposuction on their abs also need a tummy tuck). NOT the case with Smart Lipo.

After the treatment, they put an absorbant pad over my stomach (because the fluid will leak a little for the day), and a compression garment to keep me nice and tight. I was wide awake and in good spirits.  Even tho the dr. advised against it, I actually went to dinner with friends immediately following the procedure!

That evening as I fell asleep, I started to feel a little uncomfortable (I think the anesthesia was wearing off), but I slept well.

The next morning, I was very sore! The dr. had given me a prescription for an antibiotic and for a pain killer, but I hadn't filled them, so I had my sister go fill them for me. I definitely needed the pain killer that day because I didn't feel good.  I didn't think I would be able to go to work the next day with the way I was feeling.

However, after taking the pain killer (a generic Vicodin), I fell asleep. I woke up about 5 hours later, ate some soup, took another pain killer, and went back to sleep.

Believe it or not, the next morning I woke up and went to work!! I did not even need a Tylenol that day!! I was still sore, but it wasn't unbearable sore. It hurt if I tried to bend down too quickly... It was sore as tho I had done 100 crunches/sit-ups.

I wore the garment for 2 weeks. I had very little swelling, and I don't think I even had any bruising! My results were so instant that my pants were literally falling off of me!! I don't think I really lost any weight, but I went down SEVERAL pants sizes!!

I'm now coming up to my 3rd week since the procedure, and every day my stomach gets flatter, tighter, thinner, harder! I know that it will be around 4-6 weeks that I will have my best results! I can't wait.

I have a photo of me getting the procedure (I cut out my head for privacy), but I'll be happy to post it here. Many people don't believe that I was awake for the whole thing, so I show this photo. I also have my "before" photos, but I'm waiting to take my "after" photos when I hit the 4-6 weeks time period, and I will post them here as well.

If anyone has any questions for me, please let me know! I'm so excited about this procedure that I want to share my story with EVERYONE!

My only regret is that I didn't do my love handles too! I wanted to start with just the abs to see how it goes, but now I wish I would've just done it all at once! But I will definitely be doing my love handles within the next few months.

My Doctor:

They are very informative at Nu U Med Spa. The surgeon is a perfectionist and was very accurate and careful. The other good thing is that when they quote prices, they give you the FULL price. When I went to get consultations for traditional liposuction, they'd give me a quote that seemed pretty good, but then at the bottom in fine print, it would state that this price is the procdure price only, and didn't cover the anestesia, garments, waste removal fees, doctors fees, follow up visits, taxes, etc etc. At Nu U Medspa, ALL of this is covered in the cost they give you upfront!

im going for my consultation on Monday ... Im a little over 5 feet tall also and no matter what can not lose stomach fat... you gave me good hope! Did it really cost 6,000? I went for a regular Lipo consult and that was 4500 and I hear smart lipo is cheaper.

thanks for sharing...now feel less nervous.thanks!!!

Hi, xzxangel... Actually the cost was just around $5K, but that price included everything. (I must have did a typo... thank you for pointing that out). To tell you the truth, now that I've had it done, I would've easily paid double that for these results! Over the past 10 years, I've gone to several consultations for traditional liposuction, and they've always quoted me a base price, but then there are many extras included such taxes, anesthesia costs, dr fees, follow up visit fees, the garment fee, etc etc.

Has anyone had their thighs done? I had mine 3 days ago and am still really swollen. Not a lot of bruising on the outside but really hurts to sit on a hard surface. I am just wondering what kind of results others have had. I am really looking forward to seeing slimmer thighs!!

Which location did you have your procedure done at?
Yoga Gal (8 posts) 27 Dec 2008
Hi, JZ... I had my procedure done at the Oakbrook location.

My procedure was moved up. Had it on Nov 25th in Myrtle Beach at Personal Touch Med Spa. The staff was great. I must say the procedure it self was a breeze...it was the next two days that were a little painful. I had 5 days to recover before going back to work. Wearing the garment actually helps with the swelling and pain.

Hey yoga gal!! Sounds like you had a great experience...I have abs and flanks scheduled on Jan, 23 and I was wondering what type of compression garment did you wear? Did the dr provide you one or did you buy one? If you bought one, what kind/brand did you buy? Thanks!
Yoga Gal (8 posts) 27 Dec 2008
Hi, tarann. They provide the garments. I'll check on the brand for you. What is very convenient is that you will get a price quoted to you when you go in for a consultation, and that price includes EVERYTHING. Most other places give you a price quote, and then you find out that there are additional costs like taxes, follow-up dr visit fees, the garment fees, anesthesia costs, etc etc.

how did you talk them into not making you take drugs to relax you?? i am scheduled for february and I don't want to take any drugs. I am not worried about the needles or any of the procedure itself, I'm more stressed about side effects of all the drugs they want you to take. I'm having my upper/lower abs, flanks, inner/outter thigh and back of upper arms. I'm 5'4 and weigh 110 lbs. I work out like crazy and eat healthy. But I just have stubborn fat spots that won't go away. My biggest problem, my husband, he is freaked out about it. Any advice?
Yoga Gal (8 posts) 27 Dec 2008
Hi, sbowie. I didn't have to talk them into it... I just told them I was more comfortable NOT taking the valium. The docotor called in a prescription for me for a pain killer and an antibiotics. The day after the procedure, I took the antibiotic (there is always a risk for infection)... I didn't think I'd take the pain killer, but I was pretty sore, so I did take it, and slept all day. (No side effects). The next day, I was sore, but I didn't even need a tylenol. Your situation sounds exactly like mine... healthy, slender, but have stubborn fat that won't go away no matter what!!! I've tried EVERYTHING under the sun, and this was the 1st thing that ever really worked!

Hey Yoga Gal, wondering if you had plans to put up the "after" pics yet? Really excited to see how your results look today!

Hi Yoga Gal, I am thinking about getting Smartlipo at the Oak Brook NuU Medspa facility and I wanted to know which doctor did your procedure? Also, do you work for NuU? I read another review on this site and contacted the person only to find out that she is a consultant for NuU and I have spoken to her on the phone.

You are the perfect person for me to talk to, I live in Oak Brook area as well and had the same procedure last week on my stomach and ulike you, my love handles at the same time. The day of was easy probably becuase I was so numb and on meds. The next day was absolutely horrible. Pain was realy bad. It did get better day by day. today is day 5 since and I still can not fully bend or put my shoes on but I am getting there. I still have some pain and buring sensations. I have no idea what anything looks like because I still have my state 1 garmet on. it comes off tomorrow and stage 2 goes on. I have before pics but its too soon for me to take after. please contact me so we can follow each other....

hi , i had my thigh lipo done about 2 and half weeks ago by a really good surgeon here , he has seen me and said i am doing well, but after a week he told me it was ok to remove my garment ,is that alright? after which my ankles got swollen a little. other than that my bruising is much better he also tightened the skin a little on the upper thigh near the buttocks area so it would even out, swelling is there but much less. after looking through all the sites etc i was a bit concerned why i was told i could take my compression garment , do u think thats the reason my feet got swollen? i have seen a general surgeon and hes says all my vitals etc are normal its just water retention . so i guess i am heading the right way to recovery.
crossyourfingers (36 posts) 29 Aug 2010
sometimes the garmet is too much on the body. My surgeon recommends wearing it during the day and taking a break at night or vise versa, try it and see.....
