I am of Asian descent, born with natural double...

I am of Asian descent, born with natural double eyelids in both eyes but wanted slightly higher deeper creases. My career involves a lot of work on camera, where every flaw is exaggerated- and while I had natural creases, I had a slight asymmetry with the right eye being a bit smaller than the left. I wanted to even them out and have higher, slightly larger creases while being natural enough to not raise suspicions. I got my dream result, and healed even faster than expected (2 weeks and I was camera ready with light makeup, 4 weeks I no longer had any morning puffiness, and by a few months I forgot I had anything done except that my eyes looked bigger, more symmetrical, and became my best feature)

Given that my career depends so much on my appearance, I was incredibly prudent during my research process for doctors. I had researched significantly throughout Canada the US- I myself live in Eastern Canada and am Canadian but felt that it was worth the extra time and money to travel to the states just to have surgery with Dr. Lay. Since the first skype consult (and we had several) Dr. Lay struck me as a person that could be trusted. Other doctors failed to correspond in a timely manner or seemed dogmatic and "stuck" in their ways. Dr. Lay answered every question and then some, and gave me a very accurate read on how I would recover and how my end result would look. I liked that he was old enough to be experienced and to have the know-how, but young enough to listen to what his patients are saying.

Initially, I was reluctant to have a caucasian doctor operate on my asian eyelids, but that concern was quelled the minute I saw pictures of the results that he had with his patients- the MAJORITY of which are Asian. I had not seen another reputable doctor in Southern California that offered more natural results with fast healing times as Dr. Lay had.

When I finally met Dr. Lay in person, he was even more friendly, down-to-earth, and honest than I thought was possible. Every concern was addressed and I was tended to by Dr Lay and the nurses before during and after the surgery. I followed the after-care instructions to a T, even timing the icing times, and it definitely paid off because my healing was phenomenally easy and quick. Even my mother, who was completely against the idea of plastic surgery and plastic surgeons (despite the fact that I am a fully adult woman capable of making my own choices ;) couldnt help but be impressed by Dr. Lay's demeanor and work. Compared to the youtube video and day-by-day healing video I had seen online, I felt that the individual stitches in my eyelids were smaller, and more refined, and "cleaner" looking. The stitching was so neat and carefully placed that I was able to WALK AROUND WITH MY STITCHES IN PUBLIC and be completely UNDETECTABLE! That definitely did something for my mood and gave me confidence during the healing phase. My day seven after the stitches were all out, I could see my father without alarm bells going off for him. My eyes just looked brighter, bigger, and more symmetrical without any tell tale signs of surgery when my eyes were open. When my eyes were closed or when I looked down, the crease would be red (the only real tell tale sign) but it was smooth and without bumps or anomalies. Upon returning home, no one was able to pinpoint that I had surgery, only that I looked "more expressive" and that "the way I was doing my makeup now looked more flattering".

Dr. Lay had been very attentive even after the surgery, always checking in to see how I was doing, and scheduling visits for me to see him in person and seek advice if there was any concern (I am the type that is rather paranoid when it comes to my appearance and a bit of a perfectionist, so even the slightly swelling or perceived asymmetry during the first 7 days of healing would set me off.) I honestly admire his patience with me. I had never felt rushed in any consult or appointment. He never tried to sell me another product or service. I genuinely trust Dr. Lay with his discretion aesthetically and as a medical professional. I couldnt be more pleased with the experience, from the consult to the surgery to the healing process and now the final result that I enjoy everyday. It has allowed me to wear less makeup, to not be so preoccupied with showing my "good side" (because now both sides are good sides with my asymmetry fixed! ) and feel just that little more confident and comfortable with myself. Its incredible what a small change in my appearance has done for my overall self-esteem. THe idea of waking up with your ideal facial feature was unreal to me...but that is what happened. I pretty much have my ideal eyes. My only wish is that I did this sooner!

Dr Lay is incredibly honest, patient and down to earth. I genuinely trust him, not only as a medical professional but as a human being. Thrilled with my results and will likely return to him if I want any other surgical enhancement as I age in the future.
