Labia Reduction ... Ouch! - Providence, RI

8 Weeks post-op

WORTH IT
Alllllllll the stitches are gone!! :) so happy about that ! Maybe 2 days after my 4 week review I attempted sexual activity... it was alright, no major pain but we waited another week after that to do it again and by now at 8 weeks everything is moderately back to the way it was before surgery just tiny hints of pinching here and there that are easily ignored ;) Success !!
The stitches have been completely gone for about a full week and all normalcy has returned to vagina related life ! I can wash in the shower, run, basically do a split without even noticing my vagina at all lol
Even though i cant feel it anymore, I can still see all the suture lines & areas that have scar tissue. Personally and honestly... I could care less. I have a working vag that doesn't hurt me anymore, I couldn't be happier :D
To all my ladies going through the same process, hopefully my experience can act as some sort of light at the end of the tunnel, it IS possible to live comfortably with your labia. Goodluck !! :)

Thanks for your post! I am also interested in this procedure due to a constant pain during sex and with certain clothes and exercise. At the same time, I'm scared of the surgery/recovery/ possible side effects. I would like to read the blog of uoir experience. I live in the providence area and am wondering you used for a surgeon?

Exactly 4 weeks post-op as of today, most of the stitches have fallen out but there are some left as well as a small amount of sensitivity still. My period just ended and I used tampons against my surgeons advice .... I had to, I tried not to but I just CANT do it, everything was fine and they didn't bother me at all. I'm at the point where I can almost forget I even had surgery exceeeeept when I think about having sex. I still haven't tried obviously and I'm kind of scared to because there's a few stitches left so... boyfriend has to keep waiting lol. I'm going to continue using Polysporin until they are allllll gone & then I'll attempt sex. As far as my pre-op issues go... GONE. No more pinching, awkward, embarrassing pain :D yay!

I am 4 weeks post op as well and I sti have a few stitches poking out that cause discomfort and itches sometimes. Once those are gone I will be completely healed! It looks like I have some scabs over some of the stitches and I have picked a few off but I'm scared to touch them too much. I don't want to open up any incision site.
The funny thing about these dissolving stitches is, I was running late for work and skipped the Polysporin today. Normally I get a few pieces of them off with a qtip every afternoon but when I went to the bathroom earlier I found SO many bits of them coming off on the toilet paper ... I don't know if its because I didn't use any antibiotic ointment or if they're just coming out because they're ready. Either way I think I'm just going to let nature run its course and stop doing anything at all and see what happens lol
I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad first few weeks. I'm at day two and I've had little pain at all. I had infiltration to the labia majora to plump up the deflated look, and I had the wedge procedure. It looks nasty right now, all swollen, but that's to be expected. I went in knowing that it was gonna look a wreck for a couple of weeks. Maybe it will get worse after a while, but for now I can say that I don't regret it at all, even only a couple of days out. Good luck with that first time post op with the bf. I'm already chomping at the bit for 8 weeks to go by. :)
Do you mind if I ask you what is the name of your doctor and what technique did he or she used (wedge or trim)? I live in Providence and I am looking to have my labiaplasty done (due to cosmetic reasons and 3 children later) as well as a vaginoplasty at the same time. Thanks in advance, Virginia
I don't want to make it sound like my surgeon wasn't good because she was, just definitely not a plastic surgeon. She was "suture happy" as my mom likes to call it lol & I will have scarring on the inside of both my outer lips because of that. If your doing this surgery for cosmetic reasons I suggest you research a plastic surgeon who will be focused on looks other than just functionality like mine. I had the wedge done because my labia caused me pain and they don't anymore so I'm over the moon thrilled with my results, if yours aren't painful now I hope your prepared for the healing process because it is excruciating. If your having trouble finding one your OB should definitely be able to refer you to a plastic surgeon. Goodluck :)
Thank you so much for the honest review
I find it strange that you strongly suggest a wedge over trim because it's less painful and faster recovery. I had my labiaplasty via the trim method and was back to work after a week, off pain relief after 2 weeks.

I got my procedure done about 2 1/2 weeks ago. The surgeon said to take one week off work and I still haven't gone back yet. I'm going back tomorrow since I can finally walk with minimal discomfort but the past 2 weeks has been anything but easy. I had the wedge procedure .. I strongly suggest this over the trimming since it has a faster (&less painful) healing process.

I was basically bed ridden for the first week. Swollen and in terrible pain whenever I had to get up or even move just a little. Whenever I was forced to look at the area I was terrified something was wrong and my surgery was botched. (It wasn't) My daily included 3 sitz baths with warm water & pain meds when needed.

During week 2 I asked my surgeon about additional treatments or remedies I could do to help since I was still extremely uncomfortable and the healing was very slow. I started using sea salt to put in sitz bath, witch hazel on the maxi pad for pain (GODSEND!!) And Polysporin for antibacterial & anti scarring purposes. Let me tell you .... SO MUCH BETTER ! I wish i had been using these things since day 1. Sea salt sitz baths and Polysporin put my healing process into hyperdrive !

On day 18 I can finally walk, sit and move around normally. My labia look great except for little ends of stitches poking out. I'm just looking forward to resuming sexual activity since my poor bf is going ballistic lol

I just want to say I'm finally happy I went through with this because my labia caused me constant pain prior to this. I do not suggest anyone puts themselves through the hell of a labia reduction for cosmetic reasons .... the risks and the pain just aren't worth it if they don't cause you pain already. I have a blog about my daily dealings with my recovery ( the good, bad and seriously ugly experiences ) if anyone is interested, I have no problem answering any questions honestly. I had a hard time finding anything when I was researching so I think everyone should be as educated as possible. :)

Thank you for the candid review. My labia also causes me discomfort but not enough to go through this procedure.
If my situation was tolerable I wouldn't have gotten anything done at all.. ive never had to go to the hospital for anything before this so it was pretty nerve racking. For me the surgery changed my life but that's because my discomfort was constant and made a lootttt of normal everyday things very difficult. I'm happy for (and a little jealous of lol) you since your situation isn't so severe, I'm also very glad you choose not to have the surgery because im completely against any kind surgery when it isn't necessary. Good luck :)
It's really not that bad. I think it all depends on what you expect going into it. Be realistic, and don't stare at it in the beginning all the time. I hated the stretched minora I had from childbirth, and I have always been uncomfortable with bfs seeing it on oral. I don't know what my final results will look like cause i'm only two days out, but the pain really isn't that bad.
