I've wanted rhinoplasty since my teens, and now finally seemed to be the right time. Dr. Kim was the only surgeon that I met with, but I was so impressed by him and reputation of OHSU that I decided to have my surgery there without consulting anyone else. I felt much more comfortable having surgery in a hospital setting rather than in a private clinic.
Dr. Kim was great. After examining my nose he made several suggestions for ways to change and improve its appearance. What I really appreciated was that he made the suggestions taking the rest of my face into account. I don't feel like I have a cookie-cutter nose. Now, I look like myself, but much better. So far, no one has noticed, but I see the difference myself every day in the mirror and feel that it was completely worth it.
I was a little concerned during the recovery process. Immediately after surgery I experienced some pretty serious bruising and swelling. My eyes were black and nearly swollen shut. On day three, my cheeks puffed up and I couldn't eat comfortably. At one point, I texted my husband with a picture and told him that, when I asked Dr. Kim to make me look like a movie star, I probably should've specified that I didn't mean Marlon Brando.
However, I was surprised by how quickly I healed. My daughter's birthday was two weeks after surgery and by that time my black eyes were gone, my face had deflated and no one even realized that I'd had surgery.
I'm now five weeks post op, and it looks great!
I really can't express how happy I am with my new nose. People who know that I've had it done have commented that it's a definite improvement over what it was before.
I would highly recommend Dr. Kim to anyone considering having rhinoplasty. He's very personable, responds quickly to any questions I have and, perhaps most importantly, made me feel like a part of the process. This may sound strange, but because of Dr. Kim and the reputation of OHSU, I genuinely didn't feel nervous about the surgery. I was confident that the results would turn out favorably and I would be pleased with them. So far, that's been exactly the case.
