I'm a 22 year old female and I've always hated my nose. It's really big for my face and it's been my biggest insecurity...and only insecurity since I was a kid. I also have a deviated septum so that will be fixed at the same time on November 1st. I'm getting the bump in the bone shaved down as well as shortening it slightly and raisig the tip as it is downturned a bit when I smile right now. I'm nervous because I knownill never have a perfect nose but I know improvement is possible. as long as I font look like an entirely different person I think I'll be happy. We will see though! Wish me luck!

So I had my last consultation yesterday with My doctor! It went really well I'm a little nervous still but he has assured me I will be happy with the results. I'm not concerned about the pain at all, just the initial needle to put the IV in. (I'm terrified of needles!) I'll be staying at my parents for at least a week. The entire procedure minus copays is covered by my insurance. I have had a lot of trauma to my nose through sports and competitive cheerleading over the years, and did I mention I can only breathe through one nostril! Every day it feels like a dream come true I have to pinch myself that this is really happening. I can't wait until a week from today!

Tomorrow morning is my surgery! So excited!!!

I get my cast off tomorrow morning!! I am super excited and nervous but I have a question for those of you have been through this, is what I'll see tomorrow be close to what it will look like down the road? If I hate it, is there still hope the swelling will go down like a lot? My biggest fear is that I'll hate it and it won't change much... thoughts???

I got my cast and internal splints out today! Boy was that painful, especially when they vacuumed out the insides, I practically fainted. Lol anyways, I know the cast just got off but my nostrils are uneven, my tip leans to one side. I didnt notice until I got home. Im seriously praying that this is due to the swelling and won't be permanent. Will post pics soon!

So I'm kind of annoyed at the amount of tip swelling I have. December 1st will be exactly one month since the day of surgery. I feel like my tip looks bulbous from the side view. Its also hard as a rock to the touch. Did anyone see tip swelling go down a good amount after the first month?

Updated on 1 Dec 2011:
So, the bill for my surgery came today at my Parent's house (I'm under their insurance) I almost fainted. $11,517.27

I'm not kidding. Thank GOD my insurance covered it. I'm literally speechless.

Updated on 12 Dec 2011:
Last week I had my one month post op appointment. My tip and underneath my nose is still hard as a rock. Overall I'm happy although I asked if the small bump would go down on my bridge and he said probably not and that if he had shaved down any more of the bone it would have been a "swoop" or concave nose, which I was very particular that I didn't want. He also reminded me that I brought in photos of kim kardashian's nose and she too has a small bump on her bridge right where I do. He said by March I'll be 50% healed and that makes me hopeful that I can expect more swelling to go down on the bulbous tip. Looking forward so much for this swelling to just go down!!!

So I'm currently 4 months post operation and I'm getting more and more excited each month. I was so nervous about the amount of swelling I had in the first couple of months and was concerned that maybe it wasn't swelling at all, and my nose would look like that forever. Today, I'm pretty happy with my results. My side view has changed drastically, although not so much my front view. If you look at the last photos I've posted on my profile, you'll be able to see how much my swelling has decreased and straight my profile is. Patience truly is key to this whole process, but trust me time flies!

I had another followup appt. this morning. It went well, and my doctor basically said that i'm 80% healed, but since my tip is still quite hard, when it softens back up, it will be considered healed. I have NO scarring where the incision was made, literally nothing! My nose is a bit runny (may be allergies) so he gave me a Rx for a nasal spray. I told him about how in the A.M. my nose appears more swollen and he said he thinks I need to get an allergen pillow/pillowcase and that may help, and it's probably not the blood flow to my nose while laying down that causes this.

We scheduled to see each other again in June. Will update then!

So Tuesday was my surgery. Why did I think it wouldn't hurt this much? WORST pain of my life. I'm completely miserable, the pain pills make me naseaus so I just take one at a time, doesn't do much. I have two black eyes and one of my eyes was swollen shut until today. Monday I get my cast off. How long did you folks have to wear your drip pads? My nose is still dripping some yucky bloody/crusty nasty stuff now and then.

Also, in regards to the stitches, does the doctor remove them or do I wait for them to fall out? If he does remove them does it hurt? (I'm such a baby) Did anyone use ice packs ON their actual nose or just around it like on the sides and eyes? Because when I put the ice bag on my nose the pressure hurts. These silicon things stuffed way up in my nostrils are so annoying too.

I have a feeling when my cast comes off I will be REALLY swollen still . Any recommendations on how to heal the quickest way possible? I took 10 days off from work but I'm thinking I'll need 2 weeks. I work at a desk but even going up and down my stairs at my house makes my nose throb. And also, how often did you guys use the nasal spray they give you? My mom helped me shoot it up but i thought it was useless since my nostrils are plugged up anyways by the silicon things.

I'm on day 3, someone please tell me it's all downhill from here!!
NoseyMMH 3 Nov 2011
Would you describe your pain as dull achy pain, or a sharp pain??
AbsLove07 3 Nov 2011
I guess it's more achy?
bella00123 4 Nov 2011
After the 3rd day it starts to get better. Have u been taking arnica tablets? those REALLY help with swelling and bruising. Your nose will drip for a couple of days but it'll get better! Everybody heals and deals with pain differently. I think its best to put ice around your eyes and cheeks. Your nose has a cast on it so icing it seems pointless. Ask your surgeon if u have any other questions. Did they provide u with any post op instructions?
AbsLove07 4 Nov 2011
No I haven't had any arnica tablets? Are they safe with the pain meds and anti biotic pills they have me on? I've never heard of them. they are good to take before my splint is off?
bella00123 4 Nov 2011
Arnica Montana is homeopathic all natural tablets taken during recovery to help minimize the swelling and bruising. Some docters carry them in their offices..I got mine from a health food store. I was on pain meds as well but not antibiotics. I took them during the first week of my recovery right after my surgery while still wearing my cast. This is just my personal experience..I am not a docter! You should call your docter and ask if you are able to take them. Im sure the secretary could help u out as well. Good Luck!

You said your insurance covered everything? Both the deviates septum and the actual rhinoplasty? Do you know whether that is common?
AbsLove07 4 Nov 2011
I'm not sure but I don't think that it's common. I've had a great deal of injury and trauma to my nose which has affected it's appearance so that is why insurance covers the procedure I believe.

Dont expect to be happy tomorrow morning! Expect to feel weird. I got mine off last week and it was sooooo swollen and I still had a bump. I'm still not 100% happy but I can tell its still so swollen. GOOD LUCK your gonna look beautiful after all this well... even more beautiful!
AM22 (RealFriend) 7 Nov 2011
I still had a bump to when mine was removed, after a week, it was gone.
bella00123 6 Nov 2011
Expect swelling!! I got my cast off 7 weeks ago and im now starting to like my nose. Everyone deals with swelling differently. Remember, nose nose just went through some major trauma..it was cut up and reshaped so naturally your gonna experience a ton of swelling. Be mentally prepared for that! Your skin might be really dry too. Good luck! im sure you'll look great!
AM22 (RealFriend) 7 Nov 2011
Hay girl,

The answer to your question, no. Your result when you get your cast off will definately change in the next few weeks. You may be able to get an idea of what it is like if you do not have swelling, but will continue to swell throughout the day. When mine came off, I was swollen. Just do not be dissappointed if its not the result you wanted right away. You just have to remember you had major trauma to your nose and it is going to swell, and takes weeks for it to go down.
casablanca 9 Nov 2011
Amazing results even with the swelling, very subtle but great!
NoseyMMH 9 Nov 2011
I really like your results! I especially love your frontal view..WOW! Are you happy with your results?
