PO Day 5!!! - Plymouth, MN

I've been stalking this great site for about a...

I've been stalking this great site for about a year now. It's been super helpful to read everyone's journey through body contouring and pick up tips to help me in my decision on my tummy tuck.

I have wanted this for 25 yrs since I had my second child but just could not justify the $$. Well, this past year, I went through breast cancer with reconstruction and my last surgery was a fat transfer. Today, my PS said we need another fat transfer. We discussed a tummy tuck and that she would have ample supply of fat to use if she did the tummy tuck at the same time. Sooo, it's going to happen and I'm so jazzed up. It's like a dream come true. We're going to shoot for middle of April. I need to call tomorrow and get on her surgical schedule and work out payment. Some of the surgery will be covered by insurance, most not, of course.

It's going to be great to have a normal tummy for summer!!! Amen! The great thing is that my husband is totally on board. Just worried. I'm going to need to find a recliner to borrow or rent.

I would appreciate any suggestions from you seasoned TT's with regards to what I need to get, eat, take, etc. to help me be ready and heal the quickest.

Thanks and I'll post before pics soon. Good luck and God Bless to everyone recovering from surgery.

we have the same surgery date

Awesome!!! What time is your surgery? Where are you located? Are you anxious? Its all I think about, very obsessed especially reading all the great stories on RS!!

Congratualtions on your defeating your battle with cancer!! I have a list on my profile of things that I had for my surgery...you should check it out. Wish you all the best! p.s. I rented a recliner and kept it in my bedroom with TV. I mostly stayed on realself the whole time I was recovering at home which helped soo much being that no one I knew had gone through or knew hwat I was going thru except friends on realself. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!! Your gonna feel soo brand new!!!

So, wondering what most of you ladies do to prep your "biscuit" area for surgery?? Do you just let the surgeon shave you or are a lot of you going in for a brazilian? I would think that would itch less coming back in. Let me know and thanks to all for your help!!
I left mine alone to and let them deal with it

Hi Susie55! My surgery went well and I am sure you will have the same. I just left my whoowhoo area (biscuit) are for the nurses and PS to deal with. They didn't shave or anything, just poked the drain holes through the skin and hair. The only thing is, there was some blood that dried on there and I just don't feel real clean, even after baby wipes. Is this TMI? I think after my TT the entire area moved up a bit, it's all very interesting. You'll do fine and like the rest of us, will LOVE it! Good luck to you! Oh, and my PS opened up my pocket, removed my implant, sewed it up, formed a new pocket, and put the implant in the new pocket. Or something real close to that. Anyway, it did the trck and looks really good! No more sinkage and the mound is round! Now I want the left side done ~ go figure. Hugs to you!

Not TMI at all...i'm curious about this whole process! How long were you at the surgical center. Do you have a pain pump or did you just get sent home on pills? How is your back. I hear that can be really challenging. Are you sleeping in a recliner? Thanks...you sound very upbeat! Looking forward to sting some pics

Today was pre op day with my PS! Got all my...

Today was pre op day with my PS! Got all my prescriptions, talked about the procedure at great length, especially my BB and what that is going to look like. She makes small BB's which works for me. I'm also one of those people that most likely will have a small little vertical incision just above the TT incision from my old BB if I understand it correctly. It allows her to take more skin so i'm all about that! She's also making my incision really low as I have an old incision from bladder repair and they used it for ovary removal so she's going underneath that for a starting point. I'm so excited...20 days from now and I'll have a normal tummy. To be honest, I can't imagine what its going to be like to look in the mirror and not see that kangaroo pouch. Amen. I just thank God that I have this opportunity! I think i'm going to pick up a cane as someone suggested to help with my back...found some on craigslist for $20. I think my husband is totally sick of my obsessing over this and how much I talk about it add read about it, etc. I mean, he's super supportive, but it has been all I talk about since I made my decision. Ooops! So, today I shelled out an addition $1500 for lipo on my saddlebag area. Why not, i'm in there, just do it. So now i'm all paid up with the surgeon, now I just need to pay the surgery center in the next 20 days. Unfortunately, my car died on me today :( not sure what that is going to cost to fix. May have to push up buying a new one...new body, new car?? :) Happy healing to all!!
Hi Suzi! Just messaged you! Didn't know how to retrieve them. Hope you are hanging in there! I'm still counting the days with you! getting excited? I am doing great, POD 18 today! Can't wait to read more of your posts!

Hi Suzi! Counting the days with you! Just letting you know being PO 11 days and am feeling great! Energized and pain free! How are you holding up? The days will start flying by for you and your day will be here in no time! Good to hear you had a detailed and good pre-op! I vote yes to the new car!

I'm so happy that you are doing so well!!! That is just fabulous. If you work, when do you plan on returning? Yes, my pre op went well. I did however add lipo to my outer thighs so that brought the cost up. :( But, I would have regretted not having it done. This is my big chance. Oh we'll. I looked at a couple cars today, but I did have to fix mine to the tune of $900! Thank God for credit cards. Keep up the great healing, you give me great inspiration!

Oye...8 more days and I get to enjoy my journey...

Oye...8 more days and I get to enjoy my journey into the Flat Side! The pain is starting to scare me! Okay, I've had my boobies removed and tissue expanders put in, then implants - but I don't think the TT is going to compare to that on the pain scale from what I'm reading. And the BM issue. I already have issues with that...I'm just going to do the MOM and Colace AND Miralax till is slides out of me!!! I've got most of my needs, recliner, a couple of wedges, one for chair, one for bed - silicone sheets for the scar to help it heal better, organic pineapple juice, fresh pineapple will be bought this week. I already have my meds - Percocet and Flexeril and an antibioctic as I am having some breast recon as well. I'm no stranger to the drain tubes - I've had five so far from my breast cancer surgeries. I know they are annoying, but they are very necessary. Really trying to keep busy - saw my baby Grandson yesterday all day. Went new car shopping on Saturday. This week will be a hard one - NEED TO STAY BUSY. I still need to pay off the surgical center which I will be doing tomorrow or Wednesday, then I will be all paid up! Ouch! Makes me feel selfish...but oh well. I'm taking minimum three weeks off work. I was approved for FMLA since I was having some breast recon and my doctor did not mention anything about the TT in the paperwork. Yeah! So, the first week I'm taking PTO, then unpaid FMLA, unless I need to take a little longer, then I hit the PTO bank again. Hoping that three weeks will be sufficient for a desk job. It's super hard to stay focused at work or really on anything. Thanks for all your great pre-op and PO stories, they have been an inspiration to me. I'll post a couple more pre-op pics then I'll be posting post-ops soon! Hope all who have just had their TT are healing wonderfully!
suzie we have the same date! im taking 2 weeks off of my desk job. so ill let you know when i go back how it is. i am all paid up too. i have to take PTO also luckly my job gives us like 5 weeks. i dont want to burn it up all right now so im going to try 2 weeks ....good luck to you .
Reply
Actually, I filed for short term disability yesterday. I still have to use 40 hrs pto (policy) but then 100% pay for std. Now, normally, that would not fly for a TT, but I'm also having more breast recon from my cancer so it's all how the doc completes the form and she won't mention the TT, just a fat transfer. So, three weeks for me, but if I'm not up to it, she will write me out for another week, or back to work 1/2 days the first week. Best of luck to you! We'll talk for sure!!

Hi Suzie! So glad to hear your update! You are definetly going through the normals. I think the breast cancer surgery/reconstruction/expanders/implants was harder and more painful than the TT/MR/Lipo. I'm PO 21! and feel great! I've had a non-eventful recovery, (grateful for that) and the only complaint is lack of energy. That's normal too, I'm just complaining about it! I'm back to work full time, but it kicks my arse at the end of the day ~ but I'm on my feet all day. Thinking of you as you are counting down the single digits....! Excitement on the horizon awaits.

I'm on pins and needles!! I hope I sleep tonight....

I'm on pins and needles!! I hope I sleep tonight. I know once they put me under it's going to be like seconds - I've had enough surger this past year to remember that! It's the getting there, the meeting with the various docs, the getting prepped, the waiting...UGH. I hope they give me a valium or something. It's going to be a super long day for my husband. And, my throat is feeling bit scratchy...hopefully it was from the concert I went to last night or the fact that it feels like a meat locker in the office today and I'm wrapped up in a blanket just to stay warm. I was hoping for some really nice spring like days to recover in, but winter just won't let go up here in MN. No hope in sight yet. I guess it going to be me, the recliner, the remote and the fireplace roaring. That ain't half bad! By this time tomorrow, I will be ON THE FLAT SIDE for the first time in 35 years!! OMG! I can't believe it. To all my other April TT sisters, especially ones tomorrow and this week - God Speed and Happy Healing!!! Enjoy your new tummies!
good luck suzie!!!!! ill look for your update and you look for mine cause we are going to be fabulous !!!! we are TT twins

Joined the flat side on Tuesday! All in all is been pretty good. The challenges for me are getting up and down from my recliner, wanting to stand up but can't. Terrible gas pains, and being backed up. Spent 6 hours in the ER last night because I suddenly can't pee. The put me in a Foley bag until my next appt with the PS. Then today I had the worst stomach pains so sent the hubby for an enema...boy, was that nice. Felt so much better. Of course the back ache. Otherwise, what i've seen, I love. I'll post the two pics I was able to take thus far. I'll post more later. Happy healing TT Sista's!

POD8 Doing good...not experiencing any of the emotional lows that others have. The pain from my MR has greatly improved. Now my pain is coming from the lipo sites, especially my hips. It's a burning, stabbing pain. I an wearing two CG, one really low to cover my upper thighs, the other above it. The one around my upper hips really hurts, I mean REALLY HURTS! Thank God for perks! I updated photos with a picture of my cute belly button. I've never had a BB that cute before! Happy healing!

Suzie, I just came across your posts, we are so alike . I also have done the breast cancer adventure, along with tissue expanders, implants, fat grafting and tummy tuck! Hey decided I should have some fun too! Did you have chemo? You look great!
Reply
Hi BuffyR, you are the second person with the same storey! Small world. By the way, you look fantastic! I did not need chemo, mine was caught early and was not in my lymph nodes. However, since my diagnoses I have had eight surgeries. Started with a lumpectomy and they didn't get a clear margin, at that point I decided on bi~ lateral mastectomy. Then infections, one expander had to come out for a few months, then go back in, then got my silicones. Then the fat grafting began and I decided on the TT. This has been really hard. I have never slept so much and I just don't want to do anything but stay in my recliner. The lipo on my thighs is horribly painful. Just to get up and walk around zaps my energy. I don't take any pain meds any more except maybe at night. I am scheduled to go back to work on may 8th, I hope I can. How long were you off work? Did you get your nipples tattooed, if so do you like it? I had small nipples made, but am still having tattoos done in may. So this fat grafting, they made my cancer side bigger than my non cancer side. Filling in ripples. They just can't seem to get them both the same at the same time. Hopefully it's still a bit swollen from surgery and they will even out. Congratulations on beating cancer...when diff you have it by the way? Take care.
Reply
I was diagnosed in nov 10, had bilateral mastectomy, followed by 6 tough rounds of chemo. Had expanders followed by silicones in July 2011. I have small nips (cv flaps) and had tattoos in dec 2011. I have had several rounds if fat grafting, filling for small imperfections and to ad extra upper pole fullness, also to fill under one am where I had 17 nodes removed. I am very happy with my new beasts, went from saggy d cup to perky c cup, and no bra required!! I love my plastic surgeon. Saw my onc last week and all is well. I was out of work about 10 days after my tummy tuck, had very minimal lipo ( just a small amount for some for filling). There is swelling early, but gets better.

I'm just over two weeks and I've updated with a couple of pics in a new bathing suit that I ordered for the summer if it ever gets here! Still have one drain left. Saw doc today and I need it in for another five to seven days. We're hoping for Wednesday. Kind of plateaued in my healing. Felt really good, then I over did it a couple of days and boy, did I pay for it...back on pain pills nd lots of R and R. Doc put me out an additional two more weeks. Was going to try to be one of you who went back to work in three weeks, but at 56, that just isn't happening. Hope everyone is enjoying their new bods!!!!
You look great! Get lots of rest.
