Have been wanting a tummy tuck for a long time.I have recently lost 85 pounds and would like to have this belly that hangs over my pants to be gone.

I am very apprehensive about a few things. First, I have always been afraid of being put under. Second, the pain. Third, the time off from work.

Well 60 days from today is my tt. (but who's counting). A little about myself.. I am 52 and weigh around 158. I am the mother of two grown children. I have been overweight all my life. 2 years ago my husband and I decided it was time to get health. I lost a total of 85 lbs. Now its time to stop smoking. Starting tuesday no mors cigaretts. Wish me luck.

Well its 2 weeks from today. Went today for bloodwork and ekg. Pre-admitted at the surgery center also. I am getting excited now and a little anxious.

Day 1 post op. Feeling ok. Only trouble is that if I just touch my skin on my abdomen it spasms. Very painful. Has anyone else had that issue.

Went to first po today. Both drains were removed. Feels freeing. I am doing great and very happy with my results. Swelling has been bothersom but comes with the territory.

Well I am almost 3 weeks po. Feeling pretty good. Able to get around with no issues. My skin though feels like a bad sunburn which is quite bothersome. I go to my ps tomorrow. My steri strips are starting to come off and my scar looks great except on the left side where is taking longer. Back to work on Monday and hope I can manage being on my feet all day. I do mammograms which requires a lot of moving around. I am sure I will be in bed ss soon as I get home.

Congrats on the weight loss! That is terrific!

Being put under is nerve-wracking, but in professional, competent hands, it's very safe. (I was just put under earlier in the week for a minor procedure...and it did make me nervous, but all turned out well.)

Taking time off work is just something you have to do. Two weeks minimum is the rule of thumb for a tummy tuck.

And yes, you'll have pain, or at least discomfort, but it will be worth it in the end. Please keep us posted on your decision! It's a big one.

Congratulations on the weight loss! The pain for me wasn't bad, just all the pre-surgery nerves and jitters - LOL. You can get through it! Having the belly gone is PRICELESS!!
angie c 28 May 2011
Well I have 2 months to think about it. The jitters havent really started yet but I am sure they will the closer it gets.

Angie, we have the same date. Yay! My son just graduated from hs on Wednesday and just finished up with his festivities. I hear ya, 2 months to obsess about this is a long time but we will be ready. I have waited 18 years for this so I SHOULD be able to wait 2 months. Lol
Do you have a time on the 29th yet?
angie c 29 May 2011
I dont have a time yet. I will prob get at my pre-op appt july 12.

I'd just like to say that I had a c-section and gastric by-pass. Yes, being put under is scary. But as far as pain, the tummy tuck was NOTHING as bad as people said it would be. The c-section was far worse.Just as a point of reference. I hope that helps.

By the way CONGRATULATIONS on the weight loss. I admire any weight loss!!!

Good luck on your surgery!

I'll be thinking of you as you get closer to your procedure. You will do wonderful, you've come this far & can do it! Losing weight is hard & this is a very nice reward. I was surprised at being able to get up and go pee 4x a few hours after the TT. My caregiver was my sister, an RN, and my ability to get up and down that fast really surprised her (well, me too as I had pre-anxiety about getting up, potty with crotchless garment, walking bent - the whole 9 yards). Just do what PS & staff tell you, taking pain meds, and stuff & you'll do great! Know that we'll all be cheering for you!

Less than 2 weeks now. I'm super excited and trying not to be nervous, just when I lay in bed do I seem to freak a little. Can't really say what I'm thinking just want to be on the other side of recovery. Can't wait to hear how your recovery goes too.

It probably helps that I've now been thru TT and at least know layout of the surgery room, staff, and recovery. Will try & keep posts of the thigh lift recovery after the Aug 19 date. You will be smokin' hot!

Might be the nerves to the skin? Are you wearing a binder or compression garment? I had compression garment and couldn't touch the skin that soon. When it begins healing, it may feel tingly and like little movements jumping under the skin...then it can itch. Are you on pain medications? Were abs pulled in, tightened and stitched? They can be painful if you cough/sneeze/laugh.

Sorry for all the questions, just wondering if some of these might be contributing. If 'very painful" and you can isolate where on tummy the pain is, maybe a call to PS would help? Take care and try and get some really good rest! Will be thinking of you.

How are you doing? 1st day was awful because of the nausea but feel great now. Hope throngs are going great for you too.
Orlando419 4 Aug 2011
Congrats on getting both drains removed. I'm so jealous. I still have one. But was happy about that. Glad to hear you are doing great.
Orlando419 17 Aug 2011
Glad to hear that you are getting around pretty good. My skin doesn't feel like a sunburn but it itches like mad around the incision. I keep putting lotion on but its dry and flaky. I am back to work, I sit all most of the day so went back after 10 days. When I can I wear a tank under the binder. It helps a lot. I have a spot that is like a small "hole" in the center of my incision. Was told to slow down and not do so much bending and lifting. But other than that I am healing really nicely. Super excited to be rid of the binder in another month. ugh! I like saying we are halfway there. lol Good luck heading back to work on Monday
