one week post op
Just a quick little update: I am meeting with the PA today to have the stiches removed from the incision sites which are tiny! I am wondering about the post op report to see how much they removed etc.. I did manage to walk on the treadmill last night and sit in the recumbent bike for 20 minutes each, very low impact. I miss exercise and it felt so good to hobble along at a mere 2.5 miles an hour. I can appreciate that the bruising is disappearing and that things are less tender to the touch than they used to be. I have taken some progress photos last ni gh t which makes me question whether I will see results sooner than later, especially in the thigh area.
Second Full day of recovery
Yesterday I woke up feeling a bit sore, and forced myself to walk the hallway a number of times in the morning. The night after surgery and the following day was the most amount of leaking. Its a red-tinged fluid that kept seeping through the incision sites, though the garment and onto everything.
The painkillers make me feel like superman. Yesterday I went grocery shopping with my mom and did plenty of moving around, and today wasnt any different. I finally took off the garment, soaked it in oxiclean to get rid of as much of the stains as possible, hand washed and air dry. I showered with antibacterial soap and got a good look at myself in the mirror. I will say this: its too soon to pass any judgment as to what the final product is going to look like and modern medicine is truly a fascinating thing.

Surgery today.
Hello all,
today I had the procedure. I arrived around 10:15 eager for my 11 AM appointment. I filled out some paperwork which was witnessed and signed by one of the front desk people. The staff was very, very friendly, smiley and we joked around. I cannot remark enough how personable the staff was, including the nurses.
The front desk lady kindly brought my mother and me into a very spacious, clean, tidy and empty preop-area and the preop nurse took it from there. She reviewed all sorts of preop and post op instructions, took my BP, temperature + pulse, and she assisted me in changing into the surgery gown and kept me warm while waiting to go into surgery. She also put the IV into my hand and hooked it up to a saline bag which started to replace the fluids (I had been fasting for over 14 hours at this point).
The PS came in and greeted my mom and me warmly, and since I was all tucked under the covers, he squeezed my shoulder :) I was very eager to get marked up. He asked me a number of questions, and had a nice banter going. He grabbed a sharpie, had be briefly get out of bed, and started to mark me up. Like an artist drawing! and then we consulted a bit further about a fat pocket, and he offered his advice and said I shouldnt touch that area because it will affect the shape of the buttocks; because and he would feather out in that area to make it even; he made more marks in that area with the sharpie to that effect.
I then met with the anesthesiologist who is a lovely man who asked me some other questions and joked around and put me at ease. He explained I would be under general and receive the initial meds via IV drip. From our little meeting, I felt confident that he knew what he was doing and trusted he would take care of me.
Last pit stop holding the saline bag, took one good look in the mirror and said to myself "I am cheating my genetics!" and walked into the OR with the nurse. She had me quickly sit up on the OR table (again HUGE white room, very clean and orderly) and the anesthesiologist injected the meds into the IV as promised and they had me lay down on my back and I told them 'goodnight.' Thats all I remember.
I woke up in the recovery room with the compression garment on and I was shivering but I couldnt get warm. But as soon as I came to, I drank 3-4 cups of water and they discharged me (IMO rather quickly). I don't remember if they asked me how my pain was on a scale of 1-10 which the pre-op nurse said would be a question asked of me after the surgery. I wasnt in pain, nauseous, any of that. I was feeling wet, which I was bc I pulled off the blanket and the leaking already started. The post-op nurse said that they inserted about 2500 ccs of tumescent fluid, and removed about 500 ccs from my waist and abdomen and 750 cc from each leg.
No burning sensation, or localized pain. Rather it felt like a muscle ache that on a scale of 1-10 is about a 4. Like menstrual cramps and a good leg day at the gym.
I returned to the hotel, popped a prescribed percoset and waited for it to kick in. I read somewhere that it was difficult for a fellow reader to get on and off the toilet, so I purchased a freshette to stand and instead of getting up and down. The PS did not see me after the surgery (but what was there to say? I knew everything I had to do)
Regarding the leaking: this is a real thing. and it a good thing. I would recommend going to a drugstore and purchasing the incontinence pads to have underneath you in the first hours or days. I get up once an hour or so to walk the hallways for several minutes, have a glass of water and get back into a comfortable position. now is a great time to shop for shoes on the internet!
Its 11 PM, approximately 10 hours or so after surgery. I am propped up on pillows, with a shower curtain underneath a towel and feeling dandy.

Provider Review
Dr. H
I first met with the PA who explained and examined my body and the areas I was seeking treatment. I then waited a bit and the PS walked in. He is very soft spoken and patient, and answered all of my questions. I perceived him as a non-aggressive surgeon and seeks to give the patient a natural look.
