34yrs Old, 2 Kids, Diagnosed W/ Cancerous Tumor on Ovary. Radical Hysto Has Left Me Feeling "Floppy" and Unattractive - FL

I've been tossing around the idea of a breast...

Briar2002
I've been tossing around the idea of a breast augmentation for over 15 years, but it was either financially impossible, career impossible, pregnancies, or life in the way. Now none of those are a factor, so I'm wanting to get a move on with it before I feel I'm too old to worry about it. However, before any of that could happen, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and had to have a radical hysterectomy (removed everything except one ovary for hormonal balance). Granted before that surgery I wasn't a thin person, but I was ok with my body (stomach area). The tumor removal took out 15lbs/18in of mass and left my skin loose where it had stretched around it. After the surgery and recovery, my abdomen is divided into four little pouches surrounding my belly button; of which has been lost somewhere deep in the "abyss" of my stomach skin.

I would still only opt for the breast aug, but now I just can't seem to fit properly into any clothing because of my stomach area. I am fully happy with spending the money on my surgeries, but I was wondering how/what the process is to see if my insurance would cover the tuck due to what the medical surgery caused. Or if this is even possible? I was told via my insurance that it had to listed as a certain "service code" when the PS calls in for a pre-auth.

I had old silicone breast implants(over 15yrs)(this was in 2001) and my same PS thought they might have ruptured(at that time manufacturers were recommending you replace them about every 10yrs). The implant manufacturer would replace the implants at no charge. My insurance had a clause that stated they would not pay for breast augmentations or any problems related to it, EXCEPT for cancer reconstruction. My PS surgeon wrote an explanation as to why I needed the replacements and the insurance paid for part of his fee and the surgery centers fee. I have no idea what he said that got them to do this. I know some insurance carriers cover massive wt loss abdominoplasty or "total body lifts". I think the PS or office managers(ones that work witih insurance companies)would know if your surgery would possibllly be covered. Or if you are having them do the work, would send in whatever forms they use and see if your insurance would cover it or at least part of it before you have the surgery. Especially since you had that large of a tumor removed. Oh and before my PS sent in the paperwork I talke to my insurance co and they said PS had to sumit forms also.FYI,,some PS actually offer insurance specifically for plastic surgery complications. I have talked with one that does. Of course it is an additional fee and office manager said she couldn't give me the cost until I see the PS. Here is that web page if you want to read about it:http://www.cosmetassure.com/ Good Luck

Electoral Tuck Desire

Briar2002
So from my last update, I was wanting a breast aug done and was curious if my insurance would cover an electoral tummy tuck because of the "sagginess" that the surgery left me. Well as it turns out, I have a feeling that I have incurred an incisional hernia near the top site of my scar. I haven't had it officially diagnosed, but I have an appointment with my doctor in a few days and will have her check it out then. However, based off some researching, I'm assuming that's what it is. Or should I say, actually HOPING that's what it is and not a reoccurrence of my cancer. Anyhow, with that being said, I've already been reading that there isn't any fix beyond surgery to fix this type of hernia. So while I'm ecstatic that this might help my cause of in getting insurance to cover my wanted tuck, I really wasn't expecting more health issues to deal with.

The loose skin below my belly button is saggy and actually my thinnest area, while the area above my belly button protrudes. I can feel the roundness or bloatedness. It can sometimes be a bit uncomfortable or have slight pain (mostly when I'm eating or cough). It does slightly go away when I lay down. But otherwise, the proverbial "spare tire" around my mid-section is EXACTLY what it looks like.

Here's keeping my fingers crossed that my insurance can fix all these problems. And that its JUST a hernia!

From what I've read on here, I know that I need to make sure my PS is certified to do hernia repair as well.. anything else?

I think I said it before but to cover abdominoplasty it depends on how the plastic surgeon words/codes his application to your insurance company..they or their office managers should know how to do it. I have a small hernia from having a huge baby, and 3 PS said they could not code to get any reimbursement since it was so small. Your area sounds a LOT larger; perhaps like my breast implants replacement surgery, at least your insurance would cover part of the surgery..Good luck

Tummy Update

Briar2002
I had a CT scan of my abdomen area and fortunately/unfortunately, I do NOT have any signs of an incisional hernial. The good side to that is there's no damage.... the downside is that since there isn't one, there is probably no chance of having my medical pick up the cost. =( I plan to find ways to lose some weight first if I can figure out a way to do that within my limits (cannot pushup/situp/run due to back and foot problems)... I've considered doing the body wraps, Advocare body detoxs and diet changes. Would go the route of getting a gastric sleeve or bypass or something, but honestly don't think I could afford that. I feel like more and more that I want to dig the person that I know resides within me out, the farther and farther I get from being able to do so.
