What sort of TT are you getting and are you having muscle repair as well?
November 12, 2012

from what I have read on here you won't be up hosting visitors 3 days later. If you are having major muscle repair then you need to allow yourself at the very least 10 days and it can take up to a month before you are up to hosting dinner parties. I understand not wanting to tell people, I haven't told anyone either, be it silly or not I just don't want everyone knowing. I'm going with the hurt my back really bad excuse too.

I am really not hosting. my in laws are coming in, from out of town. They really will be hosting and cooking. My doctor said I don't need drains. so, I thought the "bad back" will be a great excuse.

Finges crossed then maybe you should ask your PS.

Welcome to RealSelf.

Day three post OP is a little rough!   You could use the sore back issue or just say you had hernia surgery.   Play it by ear and see how you feel but I am not sure if you will be up for company and entertaining that soon.

Keep us up to date on everything.

You just posted on my profile. As you read on my profile, the "hurting my back" excuse totally worked for me. I'm a physician. I just find that in reality, "young" women (under age 50 yrs) don't really get hernia that often . If there is a hernia, there's an obvious protrusion. If you don't have an obvious protrusion, saying that you had "hernia" surgery, at least to me, equals to having "plastic surgery/tummy tuck". Maybe it would work for non-health care people. I find that people who are at their ideal weight tend to recover faster. For me, the first 48 hours was challenging. But by day 2, day 3, I felt pretty decent, and didn't need any pain med (even Tylenol). I was walking a little stiff but the kids thought it was because "I hurt my back". Even now when I ask my 14 yr old son to lift things for me, he still thinks it is because I'm being cautious with my back. Everybody heals differently. Keep that in mind. I read a lot of post and was expecting to be bed-ridden for the first few days. My husband who had taken the week off to take care of me, spent most of his time driving the kids around, then playing tennis with his friends. I did everything for myself and really didn't need him much, except perhaps the first 48 hours. Good luck to you. If you have any questions, leave a comment on my profile (otherwise I may not see it). You'll be fine. You'll be happy with the TT. All the best to you.

That's great momcathy!!!! I am finally at my ideal weight and fitter than ever so you have given me alot of confidence that I will bounce back quickly. I'm terrified of getting out of the "exercise routine" and not going back to it and then piling the weight back on. So walking will be all i can do for a few weeks before I get the go ahead from my PS. I'm having the fleur de lis procedure with no muscle repair.
November 13, 2012
I am really fit. I work out about 3-4 times a week. I weigh between 125-130, but i have a big pouch from my 2 little ones. So, i hope i have a similar recovery as you. (oh and the small frame is why i can't use a hernia). My surgery is scheduled for 1 pm on dec 21 but i have to stay over. I hope its earlier that day so i have that whole day with a nurse and to give me another day to recover.

I do think i am scared because of everyone else's posts. Some people are in bed for a WEEK!! and they are still feeling a lot of pain the second week. that is what scares me. you make me feel better. :)

fedup68. Why aren't you getting muscle repai?. I think MR helps pull the waist in.
November 14, 2012
There is pain in the muscle repair area, and also tenderness in the hip lipo area. But the pain was manageable with percocet every 8 hours. It was difficult to pull myself out of the bed the first 48 hours. You'll need to invent some unique rolling techniques to get out of bed. However, by day 3, I was up, cleaning the kitchen, washing the countertops, picking things off the ground, folding clothes, playing the piano. I was just so grateful that I survived surgery that I didn't want to complicate things by lying around and getting a blood clot, or acquire an infection. I knew that my recovery will be better, with less complications, if I have a positive attitude from the beginning. And I knew that getting up walking around, and being as active as I could will help me recover faster. Also, I can't stress how important it is to make sure you don't get constipated. I consider myself a disciplined and overall mentally strong person, which I think are qualities that helped me get through difficult situations and to stay positive. I knew ahead of time that I wanted a speedy recovery, but I knew that it takes some work on my part. Even though it was a pain to get out of bed every 2 hours, I did it because I knew it was good for me. As the saying goes, "No pain, no gain". There will be pain and discomfort, but you'll be able to handle it. The main thing is to stay positive, and know that tomorrow will be a better day. Just make sure you do what you need to do today in order to make tomorrow a better one. Take one day at a time. And don't get stressed out about how you look , or your lack of improvement. It will take time to see the difference. I expected to look worse in the first couple weeks, before looking better. Since I started looking better at week 1, I consider that icing on the cake. If that's your expectations, then you won't be disappointed. You'll be fine. Expect the worse, but pray for the best. Take care.

Momcathy, very inspiring, honest and informative reply. Just what we all need - a bit of commonsense advice. Thank you. Suzi

Did anyone's doctor give them herbal supplements for swelling, inflammation and bruising? its called rapid recovery. i am wondering if this stuff really works.
November 15, 2012
Okay so the answer to your question about the herbal suppliments bromelain and arnaca. Yes my doctor perscribed them... They have found that they help alot with bruising and healing after a tt, as well as other traumas like injurys from sports and such.
November 15, 2012
I have had such an easy recovery!! I am swollen .. but I have felt little to no pain. Your more likely to get an infection with drains cause you have an area that is still open and exposed. where my incision healed and was pretty much closed with in the first 7 weeks. You will do fine!! Just know that the no drain procedure is more expensive and supposidly most doctors can do it but it takes more time so that little extra time that your doctor takes compared to how much more time it would take you to heal and all the complications that come from having drains in. I saw a girl on here that still had drains at a month!! Wow!... I never knew that you could have them in for that long!!! From wat I know is the doctor uses a Weaving technique im sure they sew the skin to the muscle so there is no space left in the abdominal area. Common tt's the doctor doesnt do this therefore there is an open space where fluid collects and drains are needed to drain that fluid that continue to collect in the empy space. The No Drain is all I know but looking at my photos and comparing to others My incision looks more healed than others who are futher along post op than I. I am swollen which is normal but it is going down so much the last 2 days. I am two weeks today and the photos with the black pantys were from last night.

i hope its enough time off.

My drain less TT is scheduled for the 26th. I'll be following your posts. My surgeon is confident I will be moving around just hunched over the first few days. I'm getting excited and of course a bit nervous. For awhile after I put the deposit down I began having mild anxiety attacks mostly about the recovery. However, once I really focused on the long term benefits there was really no second guessing it. I'm concerned about swell hell, however, I live with a constantly bloated feeling in my stomach so it will be a trade off. If by this time next year I am able to comfortably wear my pants and be comfortable in a 2 piece swimsuit it will be worth it. Best of luck to you in the coming days. Don't let your nerves get the best of you.

thanks...my doctor told me the same. he said on day 3 he will show me how to stand straight.
