Ever since my teens I had an overly disproportionate chest. At 20 years old I was a 135 pound athlete with the only soft spot on my body being my enormous chest. I knew that my only path to a smaller chest was through reduction but wanted to wait until after having kids because of the breast feeding risks. Almost 20 years and 2 kids later, I finally had the procedure to go from a 36G/H cup to 36D. My intent was purely functional. I expected scars and honestly didn't care as long as the weight and associated back pain was gone and I could run and exercise without my chest getting in the way. I'd be lying if I said the idea of being able to buy tops and bathing suits that fit properly wasn't also a huge benefit too. What I didn't expect was the true artistry and sense of perfectionism that Dr. Shortt brought to my breast reduction experience. I didn't have any concept of what size to ask for because I wasn't looking for some 'ideal body'. I just wanted the bulk gone, so he helped guide me to what would work best for my objectives and body. He was right and the result looks natural and proportionate. His methods for binding me after the surgery was completely different from 2 of my friends who had the surgery with different doctors within 3 months of me. My healing experience was much easier than theirs and I believe it has a lot to do with how he managed that critical time. When the binding came off I was amazed. I expected to see a mess but what I saw was a perfectly shaped chest with scars that looked a lot less 'angry' than I expected. After treating the scars as directed, they quickly flattened and 6 months later things are great. It was a great experience and, even though I didn't have aesthetics at the top of my mind, Dr.Shortt did which I really appreciate. He is a perfectionist in the most positive sense of the word and does what it takes to make his patient's happy with the final outcome. This was a great decision and I haven't had a moment's regret.
