“Botox Created Reverse Crows Feet on the Inside of One Eye!! :( - New York, NY”
Spent: $300 in New York, NY
Posted 8 Apr 2011
I went to a very nice reputable doctor, through a deal I got on gilt.com, on Tuesday morning. I was injected in my very mild crows feet (I am 35), and also under my eyes. It didnt hurt really, except under the eyes. When I went into the bathroom afterwards I saw a bulge of the botox under my left eye, and not the right. So, I think I got more under that eye.
Tuesday and Wednesday I felt really weird and self-conscious as I noticed the overall appearance of my smile was distorting, and decreasing in quality, as my eye area stopped moving. Also on those days there was an unpleasant achiness in the botoxed area as the poison sunk in. When I would make a smiling expression, I felt this heaviness on top of my my cheeks as they became paralyzed. Also when smiling, on one eye there was this weird pull starting to happen that created a subtle line from the inside corner of my left eye, slashing downward over the front of my cheek.
These are all changes that I noticed, because I examine my face constantly, however I am assuming (hoping) that other people don't notice. But, I did kind of feel like my bosses were picking up on something weird with my face since we see each other daily and I normally smile alot. For now I am avoiding smiling for the reasons listed.
Now today (Friday) I see that the pull on my left eye is continuing, wrapping up around my tear duct (so on the side of my nose nearest to that eye) so that when I smile it creates new creases along that area that where never there!!! Mini backwards crows feet, except the "fan" only goes in one direction, pointing downwards. And its asymetrical with my other eye, so quite unatural looking.
My right eye came out pretty good, but is still funny looking to me when I smile. Since all the fine lines on the sides and underneath my eyes have been smoothed over, then the ones right under my tear ducts seem very prominent, hence my nickname squintypoo. It is a weird sneering smile.
This has really made me realize what a delicate balance of measurements exist in the face, and throwing that off really changes things.
I also think the bottom lid of my eye has dropped ever so slightly, making my eyes a tiny bit wider. That is fine, everything looks good and line-free at rest. The problems are when I smile. Which I have a habit of smiling quite a bit.
The other thing that is very strange to experience is the continous changes day to day. Since Tuesday I look and feel different each day, and now that the new reverse crows feet has formed on one eye, I am scared to think what is going to happen next. My doc said it would be at full effect next Tuesday.
Thank god this stuff wears off. I satisfied my curiosity but feel dumb now that I am going to look weird for the next 3 months or more. I would MAYBE think about botox again years from now when things are way worse.
I will update.

Hi squinty,
Welcome to the Botox community. Wow, none of that sounds fun, but I'm glad you went back to talk to your doctor. I know you didn't ask the question, but I was looking in our doctor Q&A and came across the question, How Long Before Botox Results can be Seen. A number of the doctors within the RealSelf doctor community responded. so it might help.
