Pre-refinements..

I finished my last tray almost 4 weeks a go and have been wearing the last tray full time since then. I decided to go for refinements, although i'm worried about doing much more due to tooth/gum health. My bottom tray doesn't fit correctly due to one of the teeth not moving as intended, so I figured I may as well order some more as they're free and I can at least get back to a tray that fits, even if I stop after the first one. I only really want to move two teeth on the top now and then throw the towel in, I don't need perfection, just to be happy with my teeth and keep them healthy.

I'm not completely happy with the outcome of my first round. I didn't think I had a lot to move, but it seems that while some teeth have improved, others now aren't lined up properly. My bite is also still off and I still have the small black triangle I started with which is (to me) unsightly (although other say it's not noticeable). My front upper teeth look better and my bottom teeth look somewhat better, but i'm not sure that it was worth it overall.

I've had my filling redone (about 1/3 of a front tooth was broken as a child and it was looking worn) ready for my refinement trays and I am having the new impressions taken on Tuesday. My bottom two front teeth are a tiny bit wobbly which is scaring me, and I have a little tooth pain on top which also worries me as I think it's coming from the back of my top tooth which has slight recession. I'm so scared this has caused bone loss/damage. Basically, i'm a bit of a worried mess at the moment. My ortho care has gone down a little.. I feel very rushed and haven't gotten much of a word in, so I haven't expressed all of my concerns which is also frustrating. I have a regular dental check up in a month so i'll get some advice from him then as well as trying to get some from my ortho..

Anyway, my ortho told me to go straight to nights only with my retaining after the last tray. As I mentioned, i've been wearing them more or less full time instead. I'm going on a big adventure trip to Canada in a week and want to be on nights only for that, but even though I should be on nights only already i'm terrified of going without them. I tested it on two days last weekend where I had them out for about 8/9 hours at a time and there were no issues at all getting them back in and no tightness, so I should be okay.. but i'm scared to make this transition in case I damage bone/gum tissue. Has anyone else struggled with this? And has anyone else been advised to go straight to night wear?

Tray 11

Getting there now! I've been given up to tray 13, so they've witheld tray 14 which is an 'overcorrector' tray. Apparently this means it just closes up any spaces that need closing at the end.

I'm a little disappointed as i couldn't get an appointment until April 5th, which means i'll be wearing tray 13 for 21 days rather than 10. Frustrating as i was hoping to wear my last tray for a few extra weeks before i go on my travels. I'll still be done in time, but only JUST in time now which is a shame.

I asked about what happens afterwards in terms of retaining. He said i go straight to nights only. This concept scares me.. but i trust his instruction and this is a major plus for my trip. I can eat when i want! *cue the increased waistline*

They're trying to convince me to go for refinements. Im not sure whether i want to or not, although their argument is that it's free so why not? The thing is, i don't want to go TOO far. I don't want to risk any black triangles or damage if i'm happy with the result after tray 14. I will have one tooth on the bottom that isn't completely straight, but it's not one of the front ones and i kinda think it gives my teeth a bit of character. He said it'd likely be another 14 trays to correct that one tooth and i have no interest in that.

However, i do need my filling on my front tooth redoing now and he said he can do that for me and then take new impressions for refinements which will give me a new set of trays/retainers to fit to my new filling. I also have a tiny black triangle still and i wouldnt mind closing that fully if it'll only take a couple of trays. He said i can decide after my month of travels and then he'll take new impressions when im back if i want to carry on. I'll see after tray 14 and after living with my new teeth for a while!

It's all looking and feeling good though. I'll update a picture when im on tray 14 to show the results!

Tray 9.. it's been a while!

So i'm onto tray 9 with just 5 more to go after this.. It's going incredibly quickly.

My bottom teeth have straightened up a lot and i feel so much happier about them already. Even if i stopped now i wouldnt feel particularly unhappy with the result. My top teeth didnt need a lot of movement but they have moved somewhat. My front teeth are a bit less 'goofy' than they were and the black triangle i had has closed up a lot (although not completely, not sure that'll happen).

Only two people have noticed 'something' about my teeth. One male friend i was speaking to said 'i thought you were wearing a retainer for a moment then.. but of course you arent'. I didnt correct him but did feel a tad self conscious after that. I also went on a hen do last weekend and on the second day i found out that one of the other girls also had Invisalign (yay!) and she said she thought i may have Invisalign because my teeth are quite shiny. I was surprised to hear how little she wore hers, she said she doesnt wear them often and often goes a whole day with them out. She said she gets pain even at the end of a set of trays though so that doesn't sound like it's working right to me. But each to their own!

I'm looking forward to the end now but it really isn't anywhere near as bad as i expected. I wear them religiously and clean my teeth and the aligners well and often, although i have tried to eat things with them in a few times when drunk. Sometimes i succeed.. sometimes i don't..
