Hi Everybody! I am 40 years old with one 21 year old daughter. Ever since being pregnant ive had a saggy belly with a ton of stretch marks, it hangs over in 2 big rolls and limits the clothes i can wear. i am so self consoius of it. Ive never worn a bikini in my life and it affects my confidence and self esteem. anyway i am scheduled for a tummy tuck with kipo on upper and lower abdomen and love handles. I am very nervous and i wonder if i am still a bit overweight. im 5'4" and weigh about 160 pounds.. im trying to lose another ten pounds before surgery in a month's time. my husband says i need to lose the weight before i go for surgery otherwise i wont get as good a result and better to lose it naturally than have more lipo. what do you guys think? also Im really nervous the main thing is the drains and whether i'll have some horrible complication and end up regretting it but im sure thats perfectly normal! I cant believe im actually going to get it done after 20 years of worrying about it!!

Hi Everybody
I am now 8 days post op.
I feel really happy and full of energy today im soo excited about the results and i know they will get better as time goes on and the swelling goes down.

I think i underestimated how full on the process would be- being wheeled into the operating theatre and seeing about 10 people waiting there for me was pretty scary! I was under for 8 hours which seems like a long time compared to US procedures. they kept me in intensive care overnight as part of their procedures because of the length of time. wheni woke up i was in agony i was given morphine for pain. my throat was sore and i got horrible cramps which were just like contractions. sometimes when i moved there was this sudden sharp pain which Kimmers talked about i think thats from the muscle tightening.

I had a couple of low points the worst was when i got my period on the seconf day and stodd there in tears until hubby came to help me change knickers etc. i said to him in 40 years this is the first time anybody has seen me change a pad! LOL he was great.

Id really recommend you have support person to help you with all the little things and just for moral support cos its pretty scary the first few days. i was shocked at how tired i was. of course its natural but i guess i didnt anticpate it enough really.

still im only day 8 now and feeeling great. i got my drains out yesterday they didnt hurt was so glad to get rid of them one leaked over the bed in the hotel one night (luckily there wasnt much in there!!) and we had to scrub the mattress thank god dodnt leave a stain LOL

I still havent had a shower just the old sponge down :) but am not too fussed as a bit scared of getting the wound wet...

i love looking down and seeing a flat tum after all these years and not having that big old belly sitting on my legs when i sit down. i honestly feel like its going to be the start of a new chapter in my life as i work toward achieving my health and fitness goals.
Im so grateful to this website and Kimmers for all the stories, help and advice. thanks so much for sharing its been soo helpful and I will post more soon!

Hi Kateyj,
Welcome to realself. You will do fine with the surgery. As far as the lipo it goes hand in hand with a tummy tuck.
uniquelynoone 10 Feb 2012
What does your ps say about lipo? I have read many of the reviews on here and some of the ladies wish they had had lipo done at the same time. Some have had it done afterwards. When I have mine I am going to have it done at the same time. It has taken me 16yrs to get up the nerve so I do not want to chicken out for another 16 lolol. Good luck! You are going to look amazing..
Kimshells 10 Feb 2012
Uniquelynoone,
Thank you! My doctor didn't say anything about lipo but i'm going to ask him about it. Its best to do it sametime as the surgery. You have come this far to chicken out now. Pretty soon you will be on the other side of flat lands.

hi there
my friend has had a tummy tuck done through the same PS i am going to she is smaller than me but he also recommended lipo with her. she was soo happy with the results, she recommended i do have the lipo at the same time. she also supported another friend through a TT without lipo and said that she was disappointed as her results werent as good.
how much weight can i expect to lose throughout this whole process? Im hoping for 101bs! :)
Kimshells 10 Feb 2012
I'm not sure how much weight your going lose throughout the process. I think liposuction does make the results look much better.

You're gonna look great! Good luck with it all:)

You sound exactly like me I have wanted this for so long can't believe I am getting it done on the 23th of May but do you know what is strange I have to send £3800 deposit and I still haven't sent it in I keep thinking I will do it tomorrow and I try to tell myself how would I fell if it got to the 23rd and I had backed out also I don't weigh a lot but I think it is best to lose a little before you have it done. good luck let us know how you get on
kateyj 23 Mar 2012
Thanks Lou! i am so glad ive done it. ive just postd my photos taken 7 days post op. im really pleased so far..
I didnt lose as much weight as i wanted before the surgery but this is a tremendous kick start in the right direction im so motivate now to lose the next 10 kg! Im already wearing different clothes which just feels great!
Id recommend having a good support person tho- my hubby has been amazing and i wouldnt have liked to go thru it by myself.
Good luck!

Hi, I am a New Zealander too. I am wondering who your surgeon was? You look great, nice flat tummy, how many days post op are you? I am hoping to get tummy tuck and breast lift at a later date...currently pregnant! so I have to wait awhile but am doing my research now, so I am really ready when the time comes :) I already know my tummy is ruined from my first baby who was over 11lbs.
kateyj 23 Mar 2012
Hi Chris! Thanks so much :) I am 8 days post op- feel much better today less pain more energy
I actually had my surgery in Thailand.
Ive had extended tummy tuck, lipo on upper and lower abdomen and love handles. the total cost was $14,000 NZ (USD 11,000) that included 6 nights in a presidential suite, all meals, all transfers to and from airport, appointments, hospital, 4 sessions in a hyperbaric chamber, 2 sessions with a physio, plus all tests, meds, and associated surgety costs.

I know that you can get it done cheaper in Thailand but i used Dr Payapas and Bangkok Hospital Phuket as he was recommended to me by a friend.
The hospital was amazing the staff and service incredible so thoroughly recommend it as an option. let me know if you want any further info.
cheers!

Hi Kateyj...Thanks for the info. I hadn't even thought about Thailand as an option, although I know of a friend that has considered it. But the idea of being away from home while having major surgery really scares me, were you nervous about that? How was the pain factor in flying home?
kateyj 24 Mar 2012
Hi Chris
One of my best friends went to the same doctor and she spoke so highly of him and the hospital and her results have pretty much transformed her life - her mum also came over for a face lift and was happy with her experience.

I was scared about being away from home at first but in NZ most platsic surgeons only give you one night in hospital as opposed to 5 or 6 in Thailand so i think you are probably in safer hands here here! I am still inThailand recovering. i comfort myself by thinking if anything major did happen im only a short taxi ride away from the hospital. I am going to fly back home at about 4 weeks post op. I was really lucky as we managed to get a cheap business class seat for the flight home so i will have more room, also got my compression socks and plan on doing all my exercises mid flight...

There are companies that you can contact that will arrange the trip for you and you can go with a group of others which would be nice if you were on your own. They do charge a fee tho so if you havea support person i would contact the hospital directly.

I wouldnt have done this without the support of my partner as i would have been far too scared (this is my 1st time in a non English speaking country) but the doctor speaks excellent English and most of the nurses too. Prior to flying over here i communicated with one lovely lady who is in charge of the international clients and she answered all my questions and she came to visit me twice in hospital.

My surgery was more expensive - because i needed the extra lipo :( but generally i think its about at least half price to NZD

left me know if you need any more info- happy to provided you with some names and numbers etc

cheers

K

Hi kateyj..wow thanks for all the info, it does sound awfully good. Yes I would be interested in who to contact and going with other people sounds great too...I will store it away for the future, incase I pluck up the nerve to go overseas. Although the though and practicalities around being away from my little children is big for me :/ Money is certainly a big issue too but I guess I would have to decide mostly what I felt safe with. And might have to spend some extra months saving my pennies if I do it in NZ. I am already saving now of course. May as well while I am pregnant and soon to be breast feeding , it is my goal to be able to afford it about 6mths to a year after I finish breast feeding. But regardless if I don't use the info for the Thai surgury I have a friend that probably will :)

Thanks Chris

I am glad you are in good spirits. Wow, 8 hours to be under seems like a long time. I am glad everything turned out well. Your TT is looking awesome! What a difference in your before and after pics. Congrats!
kateyj 25 Mar 2012
Thanks SpecialKay! I know it does seem like a long time doesnt it.. my friend who had hers done there was also under the same amount of time- guess its just different procedures.. im trying not to freak out over the fact that ive put my body through such major surgery for the sake of a few rolls of fat LOL. I know it wias worth it tho i have some even worse Before pictures that i couldnt bring myself to post might stick them up today.. its so lovely to be free of that self consciousness about my belly too... yours looks amazing- you have a lovely hour glass shape now thats what i hope to achieve once ive lost more weight! :) ive lost 6 pounds since the surgery so im hoping there is a few more to come off yet then hit the gym to work on the thighsand butt once i am able!
